A plaque on the side of an old building informed me that the 'hotel' is on the second floor, where…read more'luxury' and 'all comforts' accommodation awaits. I entered through a communal hallway, shared with other residents of the building, and a caged lift took me to the hotel reception. The surroundings were austere. A breakfast room consisted of 4-5 tables of varied shapes and rickety old chairs, crammed in a small space. However, nothing could prepare me for the room. There were stains on the lamp shade, curtains, carpet, and luggage holder. I did not dare uncover the bed spread to see the sheets. The mattress was lumpy, and ready to be discarded a decade ago. Furniture was chipped and worn out. There were burns on the carpet. I left immediately, and informed the receptionist that I would not be staying. He refused to refund me the money. I then called the U.S. on-line travel company through whom I booked the hotel, and their representative contacted the hotel to request the refund. The hotel refused. Luckily, the travel company arranged for me to stay at a different hotel, which turned out to be wonderful, and issued me a voucher.
