My home was newer so I was able to find the exact tile as in the dining/living room. Step Up Home Improvements had great reviews, were very prompt in responding, and gave me a reasonable price so I chose them to install my tiles. Pierre Grand was the representative from the company that was my contact for the job. I assumed he would be installing the tile or at least supervising but he was nowhere to be found when the workers came to install the tile. The workers did not speak English so there were multiple issues with not being on the same page. My mistake was assuming the workers would know I wanted the grout lines lined up straight. My wife and I had to continually ask the worker to line up the grout lines evenly and the worker would get noticeably upset. At one point, I was not home and my wife asked him to correct it but he said in broken english "Don't worry, no one will notice it". Since I am conversational in spanish, I rushed home early from work and had him correct it. The above is the main issue I had with the workers/company. They pay very little attention to detail and just try to get the job done and get out. I expressed my concerns to Pierre and he offered me $200 but never received the money. I would NOT recommend this company.

In fact, their quote was so much lower than what I was getting from everybody else that at first I was reluctant to go with them because it seemed too good to be true. They were much more responsive than the other guys though--largely, I think, because the other guys had really good reviews here on Yelp and so were getting more business than they could really handle--and so I ended up going with them. They're a father and son team, Moh & Al. Moh came in and gave me an estimate and Al did the work. He did good work, quite quickly and efficiently, and with various nice, well-thought-out touches here and there. Actually, he did most of it while I was away on vacation. This was potentially pretty tricky as I live in a small coop and though I got coop approval ahead of time there was certainly a lot of potential for problems--there ended up being no coop-related problems at all. Al was very responsive to texts, emails, and phone calls throughout the process. Of course there were some things here and there that needed to get tweaked after everything was done, and Al was always willing to come in and make the changes, and in a timely manner. The final cost was in line with the estimate; the only additional expenses were some extra things I ended up asking Al to do. Actually, he fixed up all sorts of little things around my apt that I'd been meaning to get done for years for what ended up being a couple hundred extra bucks. So why are these guys so cheap? Well, part of it is that, since they do the work themselves, they're not paying workman's comp and all that. Another part of it is that they didn't try to talk me into any unnecessary stuff, actually they talked me out of changing the pipe underneath the shower and it did indeed turn out to be unnecessary (the drain had been backing up a tiny bit, but Al snaked it really well and it's been working fine since). This was all about three months ago, so I think enough time has gone by that I really can say that Al did a fine job. I'm generally a very critical person and a perfectionist, especially when it comes to to my apt; that said, I highly recommend Tekton.

Josh reviewed my desire to replace old carpeting in my office and hallway with, at first laminate, then deciding instead to go with vinyl as my friend had selected. From start to finish of this project, Josh and I spoke several times until I made my decision. I am so glad I followed my friend's recommendations to go with Given. I recently got married and bought a foreclosed home that was in need of a serious face-lift. We knew this would be a time consuming project and wanted someone that was easy to work with and Felipe proved to be that guy. The entire inside of the home was gutted including the removal of a a wall/pantry area that allowed the kitchen to be completely opened to the rest of the house.
