I bought the combo, which comes with a large falafel pita pocket, side of fries, and a drink-all for $27R. It ended up being so much food I couldn't finish it! If you want the combo, go for the junior size, which is 3 falafels, instead of 5. Or, just skip the fries since the pita is filling enough as is. You can also try it as a salad, which looked like a lot of food! The toppings bar has everything you would want with your falafel. From savory, to pickled, to spicy, to creamy toppings, they have it all. Try all the sauces as well! Just get it all! I tried the watermelon juice and it was refreshing and delicious. We never get enough fresh squeezed juice in the USA. It's not even an option. Maoz is located in a very crowded neighborhood brimming with shops and restaurants. The place is really tiny - as Matthew C. puts it, it shouldn't be over 4m² but the tiny space is very well organised - there is rotisserie on one end, and a grill towards the inside of the store and a fridge with soft drinks and water options in the front. There is a table with 2 chairs on the sidewalk, so you can either sit & eat or just eat on your feet too. Ahmad, the owner, is very polite & patient and while I was there (first time on a Saturday afternoon), a few curious onlookers passed by and he would explain to them what a shawarma is. His 'simpatia' is a major bonus for this place. Regarding the food, he has 2 options - a deliciously spiced chicken shawarma and fabulous falafels - each for R$ 12 (price is another attractive factor). Both the options are really well prepared and served in a version of the thinner version of the 'Khubz' bread (i need to check this with him) along with the tahini and other toppings. Also Ahmad really rolls the shawarma & falafel in such a way that the sauce doesn't leak at the end and one can eat while standing or on the move without creating a mess. For me, it was a Boulevardier - think Negroni, but subtract the gin and add bourbon in its place. The drink was beautiful, with a hand-shaved ice cube that looked like a glimmering gem surrounded by what was easily the best cocktail I've had in years. (For those of you who follow me, you know that's high praise!) One of my friends opted for the Gin Cocktail, what the drink menu calls a "high-strength stirred drink": Umburana gin, Grand Marnier, ginger, and Rangpur lime bitters. I took a sip and can vouch for this being a high-octane drink, a quite delicious one at that. For many of the drinks, the original source of the recipe is cited. The Gin Cocktail comes from "Cooling Cups and Dainty Drinks", published in 1869 - a nice touch of history that takes one back in time while enjoying their cocktail, right down to the quintessentially British instruction to the bartender: "The recipe of Terrington demands a table spoon of bitters". How imperial! The bartenders were great, answering all of our questions about the array of items displayed on the bar, from the little misters used to give a finishing touch to cocktails to the array of botanicals and garnishes in the Mason jars on the bar.
