Went to visit a resident here recently and it is hands down the nicest assisted living I've ever seen. Feels and looks like a luxury hotel, and very clean. The resident's unit was spacious and beautiful with great windows. The staff were wonderful too. Although no doubt very expensive, anyone would be lucky to spend their later days here. read more

My dad recently moved in and he could not be happier with the level of service, care, kindness, and overall atmosphere. The community is so friendly. From the moment my dad visited and ultimately moved in he was welcomed into "family" and truly found a home that both encouraged his dignity and made him incredibly comfortable. The staff is highly trained and very attentive. My dad and I are very close and I wanted a place where his independence was honored even though he needed a level of care. My dad was a resident, albeit for a short time as he passed away early on. However, given the exceptional quality of care, I thought it might be helpful to other children who are "shopping facilities" for their parents or loved ones. Here are my thoughts. The facility is upscale, the apartments are fully equipped and spacious. There is an active resident community. Fairwinds does a good job of booking a host of activities and programs for residents. The residents are friendly with each other and new comers. There are MEN! That was important to my dad. The staff is plentiful and professional. They are skilled and show true care for the residents. And, they develop relationships with the residents. The dining room is fine and the food is better than you would expect. There are many choices, variety and a lot of deserts! I actually enjoyed joining my dad for meals and meeting the other residents. If my dad required this shift from his independent living, I feel lucky that my fantastic brother and dad found Fairwinds. read more

I wouldn't recommend it. First of all, they nickel and dime you for any extra service. The management was incredibly rude to her towards the end. My mother would be dining with her friends at her table when the management would come by to visit. They would deliberately ignore her. My mom was a wonderful sweet woman who never expected more than what she was entitled and they treated her like SHIT! There are a lot of good places out there. I would suggest that you go looking for those unless of course you don't mind your parents being treated like yesterday's trash. read more

I never thought I would be able to find a home worthy of my wonderful father and his wife to spend their remaining years. Fairwinds is the place. The staff is wonderful, as is the food, the common spaces, the workout rooms, games, convenient laundry rooms, the library, salon, and the apartments. Everyone is accommodating and my father and his wife are treated as anyone would want their parents to be treated. The grounds are beautiful and everything is immaculate. I can't think of one thing that is missing. The true test is that everyone greets everyone and everyone is treated with respect and as if their lives still matter. read more

I don't have dinner here all that often when I come to see a friend of mine but every single time I do, something is wrong. They run out of food, cookies, pie, meat is tough. A group of residents went to the meeting they had about meals and shared that based on their rent for living there, something should be done. Nothing has been done. For a minimum of $5000 a month, you think this would be taken seriously. I know about 14 ppl looking to move. I think these ppl are being taken advantage of. read more

We moved out mother in 4 years ago when we realized she couldn't care for herself completely. We were concerned because she was living alone until 99 years old. We didn't know how she would adjust because she was a very independent woman. But after a couple of weeks and meeting some of the residents, she settled in and was very happy and comfortable. The staff from the front desk to the wait staff, the cleaning staff and medical staff were all attentive, friendly, and truly cared about our mother. We feel that because of them she lived longer than we ever thought, having passed away at 103. If you are looking for a place for a loved one, we don't think you can find a better place. read more

Mom has been at Fairwinds for 2 years now and she loves it (and so do us kids)! The staff is very attentive and friendly. They know all the residents and their likes and dislikes. One key factor for us is the ability for residents to keep their pets when they move in. All the staff are great. The maintenance staff are saints who keep up with all the little things that residents report. They even bring packages to the apartment and help unpack if needed. The dining room crew is very accommodating. They have a standard menu plus daily specials. If none of those tickle the taste buds just ask for something and if they can they will accommodate. The front desk/office staff always greets me with a smile and a nice word. One thing that really impresses me is the transportation arrangements. They have a small bus for large groups and then a couple of town cars. Where possible, they will drive the residents to appointments and there are scheduled shopping trips to the various places people go. There are as many in house activities as the residents want to participate in. Residents can be as busy as they want or you can just sit in the chairs in front and watch the birds. Overall this place is very nice. While I agree with some of the comments below about "its expensive", if it fits within your means you can't go wrong. It was the right decision for us and you should consider it. read more

My mom, who is now 91, couldn't be more pleased with her room, the activities and caring staff. As a 31-year-old grandson of a beautiful 95-year old, precious, warm, strong, passionate, Spanish speaking grandmother, I could not be more happy to know she it in great hands at Fairwinds. For the first part of my life, I was never with a babysitter... Never outside if the care of my own blood. My grandmother was exactly that. A SUPER MOTHER..... A mother so great, that she requires the word "GRAND" in front of her. I now see her requiring the type of growth, and assistance that I needed at a young age. It's amazing how frustrating it can be. I wonder how frustrating I was? She was always so happy to see me, and left me with a big wet kiss, and something to eat. Today she is down the street, and I can go get one of those kisses whenever I want. I can also call to make sure she's ok, and she doesn't even have to know I'm worrying about her. Best of all, since she's been there, she's gained weight and looks amazing.... And everytime I leave, I make sure to get my kiss and my snacks. My mother is am extremely independent 92 year young woman. She volunteers at West Hills hospital twice a week and attends church services every Sunday. She decided to move to Fairwinds in the fall of 2013. The burdens of living alone with the responsibility of the up keep of a home became too much for her. Since moving into Fairwinds she looks and acts 10 years younger. She has embraced the life at Fairwinds with open arms . She slowly has added activities to her daily routine. There are so many activities to choose from as well. There is always something to do at Fairwinds. She has met so many new friends! The staff is so warm and friendly. I know my mother would say it was the best thing she could have ever done! I say she should have made the move 5 years ago! read more

My mother, a very strong-minded and independent 95-year old, chose to move in to Fairwinds seven years ago. Her one-bedroom apartment is light, airy, cleaned once per week and furnished with her own furniture. The first thing that impressed me when my mom moved in was the fact that she dressed up every day, wore her pearl earrings and necklace, and took pride in her personal appearance. Prior to her moving, and after my father's passing, my mother lived alone and stayed in her nightgown all day, unmotivated to change her clothes. Now my mom plays Bingo, Sudoku, attends the musical entertainment and the Happy Hour gatherings on Thursdays... and of course, has a standing weekly appointment to have her hair done. When she is not engaged in activities, she spends her time crocheting in her apartment. Two months ago, she agreed to have Fairwinds manage her medications and Daniel, Hilda and Monica have been more than accommodating in assuring us that their system is accurate, polite and caring. They even gave my mom, my brother and me a systems "tour" so we could see first-hand how the medications were ordered, kept and administered. My mom is constantly telling me that she's so very happy there and that she's glad my brother and I don't have to worry about her. We are very hands-on with my mom, and we make sure that she gets plenty of love and attention. Fairwinds can only provide a safe environment, proper nutrition, varied entertainment, emergency medical care, and a staff of dedicated individuals that carry out a daily job that can prove difficult at times. I have never witnessed any staff member being unkind to a resident. I truly feel my mom is in the best place she could be and I am also aware that it is my responsibility to continue to support and cuddle my mother in ways that only a family member can provide. read more

It is like you are on a vacation every day, starts with a well prepared and very delicious breakfast in a beautiful dining room, you can easily spend an entire morning here with your loved one/ones if you so desire, they won't rush you, and that is usually what we do whenever we come to visit Bubby - my fiancé's grandmother - she loves it here, and so do I !!! My Father moved into this senior community in June 2018 and he was not certain it was the right fit for him. He quickly became acquainted with the employees and soon found himself being friends with the many happy employees at this beautiful facility. From staff helping to keep an eye on your loved one to helping assist with an outing as a group, or an uber for an individual outing. These are the friendliest people around. My Dad has settled in nicely and is welcomed by staff whenever they see him walking about or when he returns from a visit with family. My Dad has found many residents to share his life with and now has dear friends to enjoy with every meal. Fair winds has been a blessing for my Dad and for his family. read more

Our family is deeply appreciative of the loving care given our 97 year old mother at fairwinds especially during this Covid-19 Pandemic. They were extremely timely is setting restrictions to maintain the safety of all the residents. Because we cannot attend to her needs right now the nursing staff, the front desk staff, and all of the staff have stepped up to help her. They have lifted her spirits and given her encouragement. Let's hope we see her soon,but for now she is in the safest place possible with staff that are caring and responsible. read more

When my sister and I realized that our mother could no longer function independently, we began researching assisted living facilities. We knew that she would resist, and that her perception was that activities offered in these places would be minimal. But then we discovered Fairwinds-West Hills. Bringing mom there was the best decision we ever made. Not only was she well-cared for by the entire staff, but we were immediately informed of any issues, whether big or small. The activities at Fairwinds are non-stop and she participated in all that she was able to. There is Mahjongg, Bingo, Rummy Cube, a movie every night (and she never missed one). She participated in exercise classes and meditation, enjoyed regular entertainer visits and house-parties. Other offerings include arts and crafts, simulated bowling and volley ball, to name a few. And then there is the food. She insisted on eating the same thing every day although most items she requested were not on their multiple menus (for example, her lunchtime chocolate ice cream sundae). She thrived there for three plus years and every day for her was a new adventure. We would highly recommend bringing a loved one to at least visit Fairwinds-West Hills, and to experience an organization that "really knows how to do it". read more

My in-laws moved to Fairwinds a few years ago. They came from a retirement community and hired caregivers who came in on a daily basis. I believe their basic "needs" were being met, but their social life seemed to consist only of the doctor appointments they had! A facility like Fairwinds addresses so much more. Since the move, there have been many changes with hospitalizations and the passing of my father-in-law. The staff responded to each situation quickly and always kept us informed. The support given by both staff and residents has been instrumental in helping my mother-in-law adjust to losing her husband of 60+ years. There are activities for everyone who chooses to participate. Exercise classes, live entertainment, shopping trips and first run movies. The calendar reads like a cruise ship activity list! I have seen my mother-in-law grow stronger and happier as time goes on. It is so important that she is safe, and know that if she needs help at anytime 24/7, she has it. My only negative comment is regarding the pricing of the services. The fees charged for services are at the high end of the spectrum. And, as we should do with any service provider, check the billing for accuracy on a regular basis. read more

We moved my elderly parents into Fairwinds in November. Fairwinds has been great. My parents have asked to move back to their old home many times but the people at Fairwinds have been very patient and brought them along so that they feel comfortable. My parents have stopped asking to move back to their old home. We are extremely pleased with the people and services at Fairwinds. My mother keeps telling me that the people at Fairwinds are just the nicest people. We highly recommend Fairwinds. read more

We as a family don't know where or how to begin to share how incredible this place is. We literally looked at every single retirement home from Pasadena to West Hills. We are experts now! Our mom was declining quickly alone in an apartment both mentally and physically. She had even become agoraphobic and refused to leave her bed. Literally from the first day she moved to The Fairwinds she was eating amazing food in the dining room with a fabulous group of ladies. In a very short amount of time we could not even find her in her apartment when we called. After years of multiple medications she even started to not need many of them any longer, she was too happy to be ill anymore. The staff is astounding. Elvis, Lisa, Rick, Daniel, Bruno and even the Chef who comes out after dinner and dances with everyone. They are the most playful, fun, loving, caring, creative and smart group of people. Now unfortunately the Pandemic is upon us which is a true test of the level of class and care and smarts. Their daily protocol and attention to detail is unbelievable. The staff is available to family members for any concerns or needs and we again can't say enough regarding their stellar performance during this crisis. They have made sure our mom has everything she needs for Dr. phone appointments, and they are providing this creativity in care so that they stay engaged and active even in lock down, and are even doing meditations with them. We just could not be happier. And more importantly our mom could not be happier. She tells us this each night when we call! We feel SO lucky. read more

I rarely give negative reviews on Yelp, but I think people need to get educated about how this facility and others like it work. My mother has been there several years, and they of course provide adequate care as required by law. The people mean well for sure, but their staff turnover is unbelievably high. In the last year, the general manager, chef, dining room manager, and virtually all the CNA (care givers) have changed. Just when you get to know someone, they are gone, This is very tough for my mom, as the people are helping her with very private things (changing clothes, showers, etc.). It seems like every time I visit there is someone new walking in to her apartment to help her. We were told when we moved in that if there were ever to be a rate increase, it would be 2% or 3% and would simply be to keep up with inflation. Well inflation is near zero, and yet they have just raised the rates on my mom by 7%. This, after negotiating her current rate just 8 months ago when my father passed away. She is disabled, losing her eye sight, and on a fixed income. Fairwinds seems to be very concerned about cutting costs while giving a very different impression in their marketing materials. They work hard to attract new residents, touting a "resort" atmosphere, and Fairwinds recently completed what I'm sure was an expensive facelift on their entrance area. But once your parent lives there, they (and all such facilities) have the legal right to raise rates at any time with 60 days notice so beware if you are on a fixed income or trying to budget. In our case, the increase they informed us of 60 days ago is not the amount they actualy tried to implement. They made vague references to my mom's "worsening condition" or "needing more care", when in fact, my mother does not need any more care and it was just an cost increase for her existing care. They nearly lost us her insurance claim because they delayed sending required paperwork, insisting the paperwork could not be sent until we signed off on the 15.5% rate increase. I since got them to bring it back down to a 7% increase which is what they did tell us about 60 days ago. That is much more than the possible "2% or 3%" increase they tell peopel about. The place is not terrible as these places go of course. The people care, but I believe the quality there is declining. They have recently eliminated their computer class, limited the food on their menu, restricted residents' ability to order food to take back to their rooms, restricted when residents can be served their meals, and I could go on. The food by the way I think is unusually bad but you should stop by for a meal and make your own decision. For the moment my mother is still there because I think it is safe, and because change is so difficult for elderly people and I don't want to stress her out. read more

We been there over 7 years. Mom loves her apartment, now over $6,225.00 a month. We had the same rent for over 5 years, and 2 or 3 increases, this last year. They upgraded the property with what appears to be a multi million dollar upgrade. I complained to Corporate I felt we were loyal tenants paying good money, but they denied my request, and the increase is as it is. The food is NOT ORGANIC, and it's all GMO, (Genetically Modified Organisms) like most food in the World. For this kind of money, they could afford to get Organic, Non GMO for our parents, but they say they can't afford it. The portions are small in meals, sometimes okay, often terrible, and many of the tenants complain to me how awful the food is. Mom is 96, blind, and deaf, but she loves her apartment, so I pay the bill. I'm not happy with a company that is arrogant to the requests of a solid paying tenant at this level of pay (Over 6 thousand a month), and the fact, they spent SO MUCH, now they are trying to recover it through the tenants. Nice upgrade, now the bill. I hope to G-d I don't have to stay with Leisure Care when Older, as I'd rather be put out to pasture. The current management is mediocre, actually considering they didn't touch our rent for 5 years, for so long they had too many openings, frightened to raise anyone. Now, they have a wait list, so RAISE EM ALL UP. I would have never chose Fairwinds, had I known A. about the food, Non GMO, Small portions, terrible taste mostly, and not much love put into cooking. or B. The RENT GOUGE after 6 loyal years there, paying nearing 1/2 a million so far. What happened to the "Customer comes first?" Try to find an alternative if you can. This place just doesn't work for me. No offense Leisure Care, I pleaded with you to be fair, your agents ignored my pleas, so hence the facts. A lot of celebrities have their parents here, and SO MANY have died in 6 years. Scary to watch the ambulances drive away so often with another whom has passed. I'm going to pay the increase, but I'm not happy about it. Mom loves her apartment, and I don't much mean to move a 96 year old woman who is blind and deaf. Where is the compassion in this World? What we should have gotten was a rent decrease, and a gourment chef who can cook ORGANIC non GMO foods to keep our parents healthy and alive..Thank you for reading my post. I'm just wondering if their Rent increase on Mom 2 or 3 times this last year was worth this Post? How many people might consider Leisure Care, now turned off when they read this? Maybe they will have some openings as some die off, and not be able to fill them. Greed was never the way to run a facility for seniors in need of support. Mom's current Rent at Fairwinds for a 2 bedroom is $6,599.00. So , if you are planning to move your folks in here, that's the going rate, I would assume, unless they cut you some deal I don't know about, plan on spending about $80,000 a year for this apartment. Good luck in your search. . Corporate I would never post any review like this the first 5 years, as you treated us like gold. Only since the construction, (Which put all the tenants out TERRIBLY FOR MONTHS, with little apology), and the fact you have new administration in line. What a blessing this place is! My mother moved here from another state not knowing anyone and has been so happy living at Fairwinds for the past year and a half. The staff has been WONDERFUL and her apartment is just perfect. She has lots of new friends and all kinds of entertainment to pass the days. Couldn't be happier with the professionalism and caring from the staff of Fairwinds. As a long distance caregiver for my 89 yr old mother, I found every one to be above and beyond helpful. Trying to transition my mom to a senior living facility after my dad passed was not an easy feat. Rick and Lisa quickly befriended her and made her seem welcome. She was allowed to join the community for meals before she even moved in. The staff was nice enough to introduce her around, let her get acquainted and more comfortable. They were excellent in communicating with me and getting her situated. My mother is very high maintenance and when she finally did move in, the caregivers went out of their way to please her. I knew she was happy when she commented, that she wished, she and my father would have come there years earlier. They both had always been loaners, so it was a pleasure to see her become active in exercise and yoga classes, participate in bingo and other games,plus enjoy movie nights and outings. She raved how they went all out for special events and entertainment. Daniel, The Health and Wellness Director was always on top of getting my mother the care she needed as dementia and psychosis became an issue. I always felt comfort knowing she was watched over and in good hands. Most important, there was constant communication and genuine caring for her well being. She eventually had to be transferred to a dementia/memory care facility. Can't thank Fairwinds enough for all their help through this difficult time. read more

Moving Mom and Dad from their home in Florida across the country into an assisted living residence which would also be closer to family in LA was not an easy undertaking to say the least. But after doing a lot of research and visiting several facilities, we all knew Fairwinds was the place for them. It has all the comforts of home, with all the care, activities and amenities available to them, all in a beautiful setting, full of friendly welcoming residents. But it's the staff who truly make Fairwinds special. From our first phone call with Rick, to our first tour with Lisa, to recommendations of doctors from Daniel, to the smiling faces of Carla and Daisy saying hello as we walk in the main entrance, they have been there every step of the way with helpful information, quick answers to all of our many questions, supporting us through the entire transition and move-in process. Fairwinds gets five stars from our family. Mom and Dad love their new home! read more

My 92 year old mom moved into Fairwinds West Hills in December 2015. Her large 2 story home that she lived in for 30 years wasn't safe for her any longer, and we felt she needed to downsize with assisted living. I can't say enough wonderful things about Fairwinds...from the moment we walked in for a tour we were welcomed with open arms. The property is gorgeous inside and out...like a fine hotel! In the 2 months my mom has lived there we all have come to love the entire staff...each one has been extremely attentive, caring, and very supportive. Always ready to help with a smile on their face. The residents all seem very happy and went out of their way to introduce themselves when mom moved in. The dining room menu is full of wonderful choices and the food is very good. Lots of wonderful activities...they just had a spectacular Academy Awards party last week! The transition is never easy...but I know we made the right choice, and I'm happy to say my mom is thriving. read more

DO NOT MOVE HERE OR PUT YOUR LOVED ONES HERE. The people that live here are miserable. They want to move but don't know where to go. The Asian female activities director is awful. There is very little for residents to do here. It's like a place you send someone to die. The fill in chef pours a gallon of salt in all the food. Just about every resident is on meds. It's poorly staffed and not well kept. I would not consider it safe place since there is no security. There is only one receptionist and one CNA overnight. Residents can come in and out of the side entrances at all hours using their key but that doesn't guarantee the door will shut behind them. The door alarms are a joke. They go off for no reason or not at all. They continual cut and change many services. They have no interest in what the residents want. Their only interest is how they want to run things and how many people they can load in there for the money. There are far better places such as The Monarch Tarzana, The Holiday Simi Hills, The Gardens Tarzana, The Village Northridge (although I'm not sure about the staff at Northridge but it's a beautiful place). read more

We have toured and researched all properties in the San Fernando Valley and Simi Valley and Fairwinds stands out as the best...the warm front desk welcome, the delicious dining and friendly waiters, the knowledgable, caring, informed, kind staff, the beautiful grounds and clean property..Fairwinds has it all...Lisa and Rick are the loving face of this prestigious property and they will personally walk you through each step of a sometimes quite difficult journey with genuine care and sincere concern, impressive knowledge, and refreshing honest humor and continue to care for not only your loved one but for the entire family as well. My grandmother is a resident here now and she is happy and safe and warm. The fellow residents are all sweet and friendly and inviting to the new residents. Every staff member knows the residents by first name and genuinely cares for them all.
