I couldn't get my debit card to work and I was getting pretty embarrassed to say the least. This teller came over and without saying a word simply took her card out and payed for my groceries. Just like that! I did end up paying her back but it was so kind and completely unexpected and totally NOT part of her job. Another day I saw a lady having similar difficulties and a different cashier (not the same one that helped me last time) took her to customer service and when he realized that her card was just not going to work. Very discreetly I saw him behind the counter take his out his own card and rang up the groceries. The lady wasn't aware of this. She simply took the receipt and as she walked by the first cashier asked her if it all got sorted out. The lady simply smiled and said, "Yes, I don't know what he did but it went through!" And with that she went out the door! My husband always has great things to say about the butcher or the person behind the meat counter as he's always giving him the heads up of upcoming deals that are coming up and just making his trip to the store more enjoyable. I always shake my head when I hear people belittling the cashiers or other workers there as I know that they are all doing their best. They seem to care about their jobs and take pride in it and I think it shows. Most of the workers are always smiling or even dancing or singing and go out of their way to make things easier. I've seen a few cashiers are a little snobbish or look like they would rather be anywhere else but o don't see them back so I think they're doing a good job of getting the right kind of people working there! I asked for help finding the TP that was 35% off, because a palette was in front of the TP. He sent a pleasant young man named Sean after it, who brought back the wrong one. Sean went back. Cristhian then told the Customer Service guy Drew, that Sean had not brought the one he asked for. Well, C had NOT specified details to S, and I said so. C rolled his eyes and tried to argue. He also argued that the $28.99 TP was the same price as the $19.99 one on Rewards. He tried to put his own mistake on me. I own a small biz. Let me tell you, this guy is nothing but a liability.

We were not impressed. The prices seem higher than at other competing grocery stores. The Longview Farms strawberries looked off and didn't look appealing. They looked "sickly." (The strawberries at Thrifty's are a much brighter red and look much fresher.) As for the Wildfire French baguette we bought at Urban Grocer, the baguette was so hard, stale, and dry. There was no expiry date on the wrapping. Very disappointing. The Irene's Bakery pastries are so-so. Little to no flavor in them. Could be better. We find the fruit and vegetables at Thriftys and at Country Grocer to be a lot fresher and look much more inviting. Doubt we will try Urban Grocer again.

I highly commend Thrifty's (and its conglomerate, Empire Co. Ltd.) for its swift response in promoting health and safety in its store. Some noticeable changes to enforce social distancing: - Reserved shopping time at 7am-8am for seniors and immunocompromised customers - Marked lines to indicate where 6 ft is for customers lining up outside the store and at the cashier area - Limited number of customers allowed in the store, as monitored by a staff member at the door (one entrance/exit only) - Sanitized shopping carts given directly to the customer outside of the door - One-way aisles, as marked by arrows on the floor - Plexiglas cashier shields, gloves, and sanitizing spray bottles to protect cashiers For more popular items like eggs and produce, Thrifty's has also placed signs limiting customers to the quantity that can be purchased. I was actually very impressed with how well-stocked the shelves were. With emotions running high as uncertainty sinks in, this is undeniably a trying time now for many people. However, it's important that we appreciate those in the service industry who continue to go to work to ensure that our lives can function as normally as possible in the circumstances. On that note: to the two staff members monitoring the door and providing shopping carts, thank you again for your warm smiles and friendly conversation despite the long hours worked. The Manager, Petra, told the Service Agent at the front desk that she was too busy to speak to me. And that she was leaving in 5 minutes. She told the Service Agent to tell me to "come back tomorrow." She wouldn't come out of her Office nor take a moment to say hello. I then said to the Service Rep that I would prefer to make an appointment, rather thsn just drop in. Petra told the Service Rep that she would be available at 3pm tge next day to call me. I provided my name and telephone number to the Rep and confirmed that Patra was to call me at 3pm today. Guess what happened? 3pm and NO CALL ftom Petra. 3:15pm and still no call. This Floral Manager was rude, disinterested and wasted my time. I'm letting you kbow so that she doesn't waste your time! Try another Florist or another Thrifty's location.
