Fortunately, the Cheesewring hotel were very pleased to have us, although it was lucky that we had booked in advance. We had the back room mainly to ourselves for most of the meal, until another equally large group arrived half-way through. But the space is large enough to house another dozen or so without getting cramped. I had a selection of breaded seafood nibbles, which came with chips and some salad bits & bobs. Together with a pint of Doom Bar (without question my favourite Cornish beer), I was set for an afternoon's tramping around the moor.

We were given a referral and, though…read morethe hosts had planned on taking a few days off, we managed to get the few nights needed to round out our visit to Dartmoor. So wonderful! The best bed of our entire trip, in a sunny, spacious room. Afternoon tea and delicious home baked goodies which tossed any notion of reserve out the window. We truly felt like special guests. We relaxed that evening in a charming bath with plenty of hot water, slept soundly and woke to birds serenading at early light. In the morning, we came downstairs to Bach French Suites playing in the kitchen and our host waiting on us with tea, toast, eggs, sausages, porridge and more. One of the special treats of this stay was that we were surrounded with beautiful antiques: furniture, tea service and more. Our hosts were charming, helpful regarding directions for our day's exploration, and very pleasant company. This is a stay we will remember fondly.
