They didn't really remodel. More like put a shell over everything. Our bathtub chipped all the time. Had them repaint it once, but it still did the same thing. The sink would always break, or unscrew and leak/downpour in the cabinets below the sink. We just had our first child. We were living in a one bedroom. We thought it would be fine, since she's so small. We defintaly needed two bedrooms. We sked if we could switch since we literally just resigned the lease. They asked around, said it would be fine. They only have a few, and one will be leaving. We would have to wait till then. We called back, and then they said that soneone had to check out the room, and they would call us back. No one did. So we called them back. They said no one has looked at it yet because the guy is on vacation. So we call back again, and then they told us we can't because we signed the lease for the one bedroom. So we said F it, and we left. Which they were so rude about us leaving. We were nice about it, we didn't even yell/argue about the two bedroom. We went to drop off the keys, and the receptionist didn't know we were leaving, and said that we had to put a month's notice in, which we did. She talked to main lady there, which she said that she knew, and they know they have to pay us. Didn't look at us, just said it while she walked by, and went into her office. Said it in a rude tone too. Don't rent from them.

My fiancé and I moved into Ashberry Village several months ago. Arguments can be made for and…read moreagainst the cost of living here. Gas and electric are noticeably cheap in Niles and the size of these units will maintain a constantly low bill. The garages are well designed for one car and some storage, so the $75 additional/month for that luxury is well-spent. The initial deposit was average and I didn't blink an eye, until I saw the fee per dog. Upon lease signing you must deposit an additional $300 per dog, on top of an additional $30/month per dog. Seems outrageous but again, we're willing to pay the premium for the environment. Environment; it's super quiet and relatively reclusive neighbors. If you want a "Cheers" style neighborhood look elsewhere. If you're alright with a neighborhood where nobody will wave at you unless you've complicitly introduced yourself previously then this will work for you as it does for us. Be ready for a large majority of your neighbors to be retirees and a quieter young crowd. On a plus side, background checks are thorough and strictly adhered to upon lease applications...so safety is not even an issue. My biggest complaint is the lack of our own park or pool. When I'm paying more than for any other complex in the city I would expect to have one or both of those advantages...not "sharing" one with a complex up the road. My biggest upside is the management and the maintenance man are the two best people to run this place. Absolutely fantastic, understanding, capable, and competent individuals. Pay the money and this place could be a great home. Save some money and get another average taupe drab apartment in the city. Up to you. (Drive through the place and ask to see a vacant unit...that made up my mind.)

Spending money on unnecessary "hallway upgrades" instead of fixing real issues needing the money…read moreput in. -Huge 10+ foot cracks in the walls around weight-bearing areas showing a foundation issue (I swear if the building collapses and kills my kids, they will have a HUGE settlement to pay!! And even that won't calm my fury). -carpet flooring needs replaced with hard floors (and I don't mean shitty stickers that wear and shift over 2 years) -Old stoves from 70's and 80's need replaced -broken microwaves need replaced when they broke years ago -washers and dryers that don't damage clothes and cost more than the laundromat -insulation needs replaced, upgraded heating system (we are freezing if the Temps go below 0). Seriously, this isn't some ghetto-ass neighborhood we live in. We pay more than enough to have meaningful and NEEDED things upgraded and/or replaced and/or fixed permanently. Not some renovation in the hallway. Be glad we didn't sue when my husband fell down YOUR stairs, breaking his back, because the "grip" on the stairs were rubbed smooth from probably decades of use (the ONLY thing good from this renovation). If it wasn't for that, our rent wouldn't be late all the time and we would have been in a house by now. But no. He broke his back and was let go because of it so he had to get a job where he makes less than HALF of what he did. You owe us actual relevant renovations. Just do the stairs, not repaint the walls and put up new trim. That wasn't necessary.

The January 2021 treatment was successful but the bed bugs came back by the end of summer. I was told that if I reported them again I would be evicted. So, I made arrangements myself to get treated. Management found out and made me use their exterminator and they are now evicting me. The manager of this building gives off the most negative energy I have ever known and I am 67 years old. I have caught him in several outright lies. He doesn't like me and the feeling is mutual. I will fight this eviction because it seems to me I am targeted by this manager who nobody in the building likes.
