This place is actually called Fairmont State University/Pierpont Community & Technical College now to free up the air.
As a third year student at FSU, I believe I have the right of passage to post freely how this school should be rated. I'm not here to satisfy and pleasure the viewer nor am I here to bash the university, either. Please hear me out.
I am an out-of-state student attending this university. At first, I thought this university was too friendly for me; their Welcome Weekend Freshman Orientation is one of the best in the state. Little did I know that they were one of the best impressions someone could make on a first-time basis. Becoming too political or too involved in this school will change your mind. And eventually, you will hate to love this place. Your education will be put to the side if you are too involved with clubs/organizations, your student voice will only go so far, and you will have to learn that "it is what it is" and grow up knowing that God has given you the power to change only what you can change.
I came to this school knowing absolutely no one. I had the intent to play four years of baseball as a Falcon and continue my athletic ways like I did at high school. As a freshman, I was just another person. As I became more involved with clubs/organizations and less with baseball, I made a reputation for myself, seeked out poetic justice for things that were not right, and was open to all types of people; I became "that student" on campus. I grew to love the student population, some of the student affair staff, and dislike those like residence life and some administration. I would soon realize that being involved on-campus actually faded away from my studies.
Becoming a Welcome Weekend Freshman Counselor, living in Bryant Place, meeting awesome people that disagree with Fairmont, and the mulitudes of opportunities to represent this school across the state and across the country are the perks.
Friendly-bias people, dictatorship rules, horrible cafeteria food, teachers that do not use technology, the weather, the bookstore horrible internet connection, and the city of Fairmont will be the downfall of this school.
As a student who used to be an RA, the SG Secretary, the thrill and random intelligent guy that I was, I would only recommend that you make the decision for yourself. If I were to personally do this over again, I would of probably chose another school. However, water under the bridge, I became something more outside of my home state and made me realize that there was so much more out there than baseball. I would personally evaluate each and every school on your list and see what you like the most. If you look at this school, please seek out the student population first. They are truly the most open about what they like and dislike with those on the outside. read more
