We have been coming to the Fairmont Orchid yearly for the past 6 years and it just keeps getting better. As a Silver member we get early check in and late check out. They let us stay in our room till 6pm because we had a 9:30pm flight. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated with all the amenities you desire (coffee bar, beautiful reusable water bottles, le Labo toiletries). Service is always 5 stars from the room cleaning staff to pool attendants to all the restaurant servers. The breakfast buffet is a perfect blend of western and Hawaiian specialties. We also enjoyed the beach restaurant and upscale Browns. We had two 11 year olds and they had an extensive children's menu above and beyond the usual fare. At Brown's they have a filet mignon for kids that was amazing. The beach is one of the best on the island with calm and clear waters for excellent snorkeling (turtles, colorful fish, eels, sea urchins). We are already looking forward to our next trip!

The bay that this hotel sits on is an underrated snorkeling spot, and your hotel resort fee includes snorkel rental. Staff was friendly, and checkin went smooth (though did take a while to get through the line. The room was clean and modern and elegant. The TV interface needed updating and to include streaming, but otherwise everything else was perfect. The on-property restaurants were expensive but delicious. There is only one small hot tub, which fills up quickly, which is the one downside. Water stations were available in plenty of locations and you get a nice double-wall stainless water bottle in room. Parking was inexpensive.

Amazing location! A famous quote of location, location, location! I truly believe that this is one part of the truth. The location was great and you can get amazing views of the beach. There were amenities that we enjoyed from the snorkeling, beach aerobics, palm frond weaving, hula class, culture walks, and the garden experience (just to name a few). We learned about the history of the island not limited to petroglyphs (carving on hot lava). The resort have places to have a great meal but shuttles are provided to the nearby shops if you wanted to explore off property. The whole experience was great and I would mind coming back. The staff was great all around.

1317 south tower Pros: Free, convenient parking Water bottles provided with water stations all over the grounds 24 hour pool and fitness center Cons: Room didn't have black out shades Room not cool enough at night. Check in was super easy. The lady checking us in was very friendly and informative. We dropped of our luggage in the front and it was in the room before we even got to it. The room was spacious. We got a two queen bed room. The beds were comfortable. It did get pretty hot at night. It would wake me up because it was just muggy. I do take my own fan on vacation, so this helped. The room also has a couch and table. They have complimentary nespresso coffee and tea. If you like tea, they have the best earl grey tea that I have had in quite a while. There is a mini fridge that worked well. The closet has enough hangers. An iron is provided. A safe is available. Bathroom: spacious. It had a standing shower on one side and a tub with shower on the other. The vanity had two sinks. The toilet is separated by a door. They had plenty of towels. Toiletries include shampoo, conditions, shower gel and lotion. The grounds: beautiful. You really feel like you're in paradise. Beach: small, but perfect for the amount of people there. There was plenty of lounge chairs. No natural shade was available. They did have some chairs with cover for rent. You can snorkel right off the beach and see some pretty fish and turtles. Towels were available at the rental hut. They do have waiter service. Expect resort prices. For two cocktails plus tip, it was $50. Pool: loved that it was open 24/7. Plenty of lounge chairs. Amenities: I used the gym. It was clean with plenty of equipment. They had towels, including cool towels. Tips: there's a two grocery stores nearby.

Beautiful!!! I have so many adjectives I could use to describe this resort. We had an amazing stay. The rooms were spacious. The extra touch with a refillable water bottle and refilling stations throughout!! Loved this. Cool souvenir to take home as well. The beach was nice- highly recommend a cabana rental. It's $150 for the day. You get a cooler with waters and juices. The restaurants were all really good as well.

This is an absolutely beautiful resort slightly north of Kona. We booked it through a Black Friday 25% off deal, which was still $600+ per night. However, this place has it all. The beach area is awesome, great for snorkeling & seeing sea turtles and whales! We had breakfast at the coffee shop the first morning and saw a full whale breach while sitting looking at the water. Saw them another day while walking on the beach. The pool and hot tub is awesome! Drinks are great but tiny for $20 a pop. They do give you leis when you arrive but no one greeted us and so we walked up to check in and the lady was like... oh they missed you. Then she gave them to us. Would've been nice to be greeted upon arrival. They do give you really nice keepsake water bottles because they have filtered water stations throughout the property. I thought this was a nice touch. Their concierge is also very helpful. They will book tours for you and were nice enough to print our fishing licenses for us. We didn't eat at any of the on site restaurants while we were staying because there were places out and about we wanted. We also missed the hotel's luau and had to go find a different one. They only do their on Saturday. Well, our flight got delayed and we didn't arrive until very late. Not their fault but it would be nice if they had more than one per week. Parking is free. That was nice because we did have a rental car. All in all, I don't know if I would stay here again because we are on the go people and the money just wasn't worth it. However, if you literally don't want to see anything else on the island, this is great.

A luxury high class hotel and resort on the beautiful Kona coast of Hawai'i. The IRONMAN Hawai'i 70.3 Kona HONU is held annually here and provides a spectacular race environment. The hotel amenities is first rate in every aspect. Highly recommend.

What can I say, my wife said this is where we needed to be for our honeymoon and she was right. Service from the hotel staff has been great. Everyone greets us and says good morning or 'mahalo' We did not enjoy the 3rd party company hosting events Cetera or something. They kicked my wife off of part of the beach claiming they had sole access for a few hours. Eden, the MOD, immediately informed me that was not the case and offered to escort us back to our spot. Unfortunately we had excursions the next two days so instead she gave us a free cabana for the day by the beach 2 days later! What a treat!! We both burn easy, and they picked a special spot all by itself self along the outer cove. Wife is more than thrilled. Thank you to the staff for handling this with grace. Couples Massage was great and super relaxing, Casey and her male colleague (forgot his name sorry man) were professional and we felt in good hands. Trinity took such great care of us by the beach during service hours, and convinced me to pay for the last day! Overall will be coming back, snorkeling here is so amazing so many colorful fish and reefs, not to mention the numerous sea turtles that hangout here/pop their head-sup in the middle of the cove.

This place is magical. The staff is so welcoming and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. The concierge helped us book several excursions. Our room was spacious and clean and they came every day to give fresh towels and freshen bedding. We enjoyed the many food options and indulged in a massage at Spa without Walls.

Beautiful resort on the Big Island. Pricey, but definitely book the "concierge service" Gold experience. It features a lovely lounge with breakfast and afternoon canapés, with drinks and snacks anytime on the go! The pool was nice but there did not seem to be a hot tub. We booked an ocean view room and were "upgraded" to one that was supposedly better, thought it seemed more like a partial ocean view overall. It was still very lovely, but unfortunately 2 of the nights they hosted big events with music and very loud noise! The manager sent an advance notice to call her with any concerns and both nights we called about the noise around 9pm but the manager never returned our call. The front desk attendants were very friendly though. Browns restaurant onsite is excellent. And nice to have a private beach on the property.

Beautiful oceanfront resort with a large pool and beach access. Great for families with the small cove and access to beach equipment. The property is beautiful with perfectly manicured gardens, waterfalls, and the beach. Our room was spacious. The bathroom was huge with a stand up shower and bathtub, double sinks, and separate toilet. Each room has a large balcony as well. They provided a nice baby crib upon request as well. They have three restaurants on site, a spa, and fitness center. Parking is included in the resort fee. They also have a shuttle to nearby shops. Staff were very friendly. The resort is a bit isolated and 30 minutes from the airport, so you do need to drive to go out to eat or do sightseeing seeing.

We got off to a rocky start upon arrival. All of my requests upon booking were ignored. They said they didn't receive them on their own system. I had to accept a double queen room instead of a King in order to be in the tower I requested. And near my sister. After a very long flight it took over 45 minute get me checked in with no line. Room service had an hour and half wait for food. I ate a muffin I brought on the plane for dinner. Went to sleep hoping things would improve. Requested feather free pillows( due to a severe feather allergy) from manager. I'm still waiting for them. Too bad I'm already home. Room was filthy. See photo of layers of dust on clock cord and bed frame rails. Yuk! Had lunch at Hale Kai. Upon seating they ask about food allergies. I informed them of Soy allergy. I again informed the server Sophia C who acted surprised. When she brought the banana bread and fruit plate, she said "they used soy oil to coat the bread pans". She then said well I don't like to eat dairy or wheat. I said well mine is a real allergy, not a choice. She left the bread and walked away. Traveling with my sister and her 3 year old. Food for under 5 at Hale Kai is free off kids menu with adult meal, which we had. Server Sophia C charged me anyway. I did not notice until the following day. I then compared my check to my statement. Surprised to see a 33% tip! Never ever would I. I asked the front desk to see the signed check. I had made an addition error. Instead of correcting the total, the server Sophia C increased her tip!! It equates to stealing. Ask for any server but Sophia C if you stay at The Fairmont Orchid. Booked a partial ocean view room. They should rename it to barely ocean view. Or lean over your balcony and see the ocean view. See photo. Virtually no where but the edge of the balcony to actually see the ocean. The Fairmont should have been better, done better, performed better. I've stayed at worldwide 5 star hotels. This really is very lacking. The manager compensates me $200 room credit to spend on the first night for the room issues. I never even got to her about the other issues. Disappointed over all.

Do they offer a sunday brunch buffet?

They have a wonderful buffet breakfast every day. We really enjoyed it. An omelet station, amazing smoked salmon and many other options

Is there afternoon high tea service available at any of the restaurants in this resort?

No. It seems like most restaurants aren't even open during the day. When we were there only the pool restaurant was open.

Does anyone have photos of the gym?

I don't have photos but have been many times. They have about four elliptical machines, a stair machine and maybe five treadmills. There is a smith machine, free weights and a couple other weight machines. They did an upgrade of the gym in the last… Read more

When were the rooms last updated?

Aloha Michael, Our guest rooms were last renovated in 2013, and more recently, our Presidential Suites were renovated in 2018. Mahalo for your interest in Fairmont Orchid. We hope to welcome you soon!

Do they have bbq by the pool?

Aloha Emily, Fairmont Orchid invites guests to enjoy the following food and beverage offerings at the pool: Brown's Deli, Hale Kai Restaurant. Bbq areas are not provided on the resort grounds. Mahalo!

Do they have ocean yoga class on lagoon?

Yep! When I was there I saw a few folks doing a yoga class on paddle boards in the lagoon.

Hi! Are there kayaks or canoes for guests to use in the lagoon?

    Paddle boards are for rent

Are there tours to Hilo from the hotel? Or off site? If off site, can you recommend a tour company. Thank you.

The resort never felt overly crowded, which made the whole trip feel really peaceful. Our room was cleaned every single day, and we loved that they offer free washers and dryers for guests. It was such a nice perk -- we dried our towels daily and didn't have to deal with sandy, damp stuff in the room. Everyone we interacted with was so nice. The bell desk even held Tim's glasses for us so we could go out one evening without worrying. The concierge team was also super helpful and actually helped us book our next Marriott stay in Kauai. The on-site restaurant, Hawaii Calls, was great -- amazing Mai Tais and solid food overall. The only thing I'd skip is the little coffee shop; we paid for parfaits and it just wasn't worth it. The only minor downside was that our oceanfront balcony wasn't quite as "oceanfront" as we expected for the price, but it was still a lovely room and didn't take away from the experience. We loved our stay here so much we already booked another Marriott for our next trip. Beautiful resort, great service, and a perfect base for exploring the Big Island.

We've been coming to the Waikoloa Hilton for about 15 years now and have visited a handful of times…read moreover that stretch. With that history, I can say with confidence that the experience has noticeably declined and our most recent trip made that hard to ignore. The biggest frustration is the cuts to on-site transportation. The boats that used to ferry guests around are largely gone, and the tram service seems to always be down. That leaves you walking and this is not a small property. Depending on where your room is, you're looking at close to half a mile to a mile between points, which is brutal when you have kids, luggage, and all your gear in tow. The on-site activities and amenities have also thinned out compared to what they used to offer. It just doesn't feel as full and vibrant as it once did. That said, there are still genuine highlights. The valet service was excellent, incredibly kind, and complimentary for us. The day pass option is solid if you want to come for a visit without staying overnight, and towel rentals are included with that service. The resort's layout is actually a plus in one way if one area gets too crowded, you can easily move to a completely different pool or section and have an entirely different experience. The ocean connection to the resort is genuinely special too we went snorkeling and spotted turtles and fish right there, which was a highlight for our whole family. The hotel rooms feel like they've slipped in quality over the years, and the buffet prices have gone up significantly while the food quality hasn't kept pace. Convenient? Yes. Worth the price tag? Not really anymore. My honest recommendation: skip staying on property and instead Airbnb or find a different t nearby timeshare we've done it and it's a great way to enjoy the area at a much better value. Then come do a day visit at the resort to enjoy the amenities without the overnight sticker shock. We still love Waikoloa and will keep coming back, but the resort itself needs to invest in what made it great a decade ago.

I was able to get a room upgrade and had an amazing view! This resort is absolutely stunning. I love that there was a little bay that had calmer water for little ones and those of us who just wanted to relax and float in the water. I also love that they have some chairs up on a little viewing deck near the ocean that you can just sit and chill at as well. They also have an adults only pool, which is great and it is pretty kid friendly which is also awesome. The entire properties laid out really nicely and still makes you feel like you're in the secluded area. There are a lot of food options on site, which is nice. There's also a couple of shopping centers up the road where you can get food as well. The food at the resort is pretty awesome to me. I loved breakfast! It was so delicious and that donut wall and pastry table had me in the chokehold daily. I loved sitting on the bay. There's so much to do and you have a lot of water activities available to you. I recommend getting the pass (about $80) while you're there, because it's worth it if you want to rent any of the paddle boards. Noodles are free to use. Drinks are available on the beach and there's a little shack for snacks if you're looking for tacos or a quick bite. The rooms are standard but just beautiful. The lanai is amazing and so restful. I really loved the small touches at this place. I love that they had a welcome tray of snacks waiting for me when I came back from the pool my first day, and then they turned my bed down every single night and left me with an inspirational card. It really is the small touches that went such a long way. I probably would say that my only slight recommendation is for the spa to be a little more exclusive or have more to it. But I will say that I loved the massage hut. Those were just absolutely amazing and nothing beats it. If you can get one overlooking the beach. Go for it. But, being in a massage hut in general anywhere on the property is worth it. I would recommend renting a car, because there's just so much to do on the big island. Do you want to be able to get around and you can always take rideshare, but it's worth it to be able to have the freedom to come and go as you please. This was an amazing trip with amazing service, I really can't wait to go back.

Once they left we started to "settle in" when we discovered trash from the previous renter had not been removed. We called the front desk and the garbage was collected in less than five minutes. As we continued to get situated we noticed that condo had not been cleaned very well. Then we found a bowl of won-tons in the microwave. All of the dishes were dirty. The front desk was notified, said was too late to clean the unit at that time but assured me that a thorough cleaning would occur the next day. The normal cleaning fee at departure was agreed to be waived. A few minutes later housekeeping returned to the unit, apologized, and worked very hard to clean the unit. They even replaced the rice cooker that had been ruined by a previous tenant which we had not yet checked. After an initial missed step, the management worked hard to get things tight courteously and professionally. However, while the furniture was in better shape than many condo rentals, serious updating needs to occur. Toilet seats were clean but worn, dishwasher has not been installed properly, appliances are mis-matched and dated, kitchen cabinets need replacing and the list goes on and on. Yes, I would stay at this property again but I would need assurances that the unit I rent will be in much better shape than Unit 307. Personally, I believe Aston management should refuse to rent unit 307 until it is renovated by the owner.

We stayed at the Waikoloa Shores for 7 nights on our recent trip to the Big Island in February…read more Overall, we enjoyed our experience at this hotel and it was a good deal. We had a little hiccup with our outbound flight from LA and therefore arriving later than expected. We called the hotel and learned that their offices close at 9pm, but they e-mailed us detailed instructions on how to get into our condo after business hours. I am pleased to say, that we had no issues getting to hour condo and upon arrival were pleasantly surprised that we were upgraded to a spacious 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom condo instead of 1/1 we paid for. At first, it felt like we traveled back in time and landed in 80s, it's an older property and they did very little to upgrade the décor. But, the hotel is clean and very well looked after; the grounds are beautiful and offer all the amenities for an enjoyable stay. Having a kitchen is great, but having a nice spacious patio on top of that to enjoy your meal in is even better! The kitchen is fully equipped with mostly everything you need to prepare a meal. If you don't have something, just call the front desk and they will deliver it to you (we needed a can opener and it was dropped off within 15 min). The property also has barbeque areas (outside your unit); we tried them out several times. Dishwasher, washer and dryer are available in the unit. While we were happy with our stay, there are some things I'd like to mention for those of you who consider staying here. We had a little issue with our kitchen - little ants running all over the counter the first two days. We called the front desk and they promptly sent a handyman to take care of the issue. And we saw no more ants thereafter! The pool... is very small; water in the Jacuzzi was not hot, it was the same temperature as the pool. While it didn't matter to us very much (we enjoyed the abundance of gorgeous nearby beaches), take that into consideration if you plan to stay at the hotel for the most part of your trip and like to hang by the pool. Cleaning service: our unit was cleaned only once during our stay and I use "cleaned" loosely. The bed was made and towels refreshed, but not much else. When we called the front desk, we were explained that if you book your stay as a regular hotel room, they'll clean it every day. But if you book through time share exchange service as we did, your unit gets cleaned only once a week (Wednesdays, although ours was cleaned on Tuesday). Tennis courts - no lights after sun set... so we only got to play once since we were out and about most of the day. Lighting overall in the Waikoloa resort area is pretty bad, we tried to go for a walk one evening and turned around since some areas had no lights at all. The hotel is not an ocean front property; it takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the ocean (but not the beach). There is a beach by the Mariott, but that's a bit of a walk and there are by far better beaches just a little bit north (Wailea/Beach 69, Hapuna, Mauna Kea). All in all, I would recommend this hotel to someone who would like to stay at a reasonably priced condo, but doesn't plan to spend a lot of time in their unit. If you are on the Big Island to explore, this is a great place to have breakfast at on a patio and grill some ahi or beef steak for dinner. If you are a golfer, perhaps you'll be out on the field and this will work for you as well. But if you are planning to spend most of your days by the pool, you can probably find a place with a better and bigger one. And last but not least, I'd like to mention that front desk has been very helpful during our stay. They were very knowledgeable, helped us make Valentine's dinner reservations the day before, and booked a snorkeling cruise. They even lent us beach chairs and umbrellas as well as flippers; some guests leave that stuff behind and if it's available they'll let you borrow it at no cost. I would consider staying here again, but that may not happen for awhile... Maui and Kauai next!
