THIRTY MINUTES. If you arrive to see a movie on time, you are going to miss the beginning. Imagine paying full price for a movie and then missing the entire first act because you were waiting in line to get popcorn. Oh, and if you were hoping to get literally anything else, too bad because they were out. Candy? Sold out. Slushies? Nope. Medium drinks? Out of cups. BE SO FOR REAL. How were you not more prepared for a busy holiday weekend??? Honestly, it was absolutely ridiculous. Not only was the wait for food a joke, but the theater itself was disgusting. There were bits of popcorn on every visible inch of the carpet. Trash cans were OVERFLOWING with garbage. Giving one extra star because at least the AV was acceptable. However, I'll save myself the thirty minutes waiting in line and just drive to another theater. p.s. what is with the "luxury" chairs? are they supposed to move at all? are they all broken? basically there are buttons that do nothing. you're welcome.

We walked in and were greeted by the friendliest people. They serve beer and I think wine, as well as other drinks like sparkling water and kombucha. They also have your classic movie snacks and popcorn, and seasonings to add to your popcorn. There are two theaters, and we were in the one downstairs. It's adorable, and feels like you're in a cozy, comfy basement watching a movie. It's all comfy couches and was so cute and cozy! This theater shows lots of independent films, and I was so happy to be able to support such a lovely hidden gem in Vermont!

Several films are scheduled per week, with staggered show times. In addition to the modest admission price, the Savoy relies on memberships to stay afloat (an apt metaphor, since they have been ravaged by terrible Montpelier floods in recent years); local patrons are very loyal. If you hear about an indy film that you think will never get shown in Vermont, wait a couple of weeks, and it will come to the Savoy.

The Nugget is cozy, with a fairly good sound system in all its different cinemas. We just saw Wicked here, well attended with a good number of college students and older folk. We grabbed some maple butter popcorn and soda pop and went into the theater. We thought we were going to be the only ones there on this cold winter evening, boy were we wrong. The people started to gather and we soon realized this is the place to be. The movie was great (Manchester By The Sea) and we had a wonderful time. I would definitely recommend a visit.

The experience is usually very good, but sometimes you can hear the sound from the next theater, which can be annoying. The seats are Ok. The prices are reasonable, but they're cash only. But there's an ATM in the lobby. I've been to movies where the theater is empty and packed. During the winter (ski season) and summer rainy days will be crowded, so get there early when new movies come out. Otherwise it's easy to get a seat. They have the typical concession stand, but where they're different is they have a full bar, including local hard ciders and beers. You can't beat that. And some movies I've been to someone will come in during the movie to take your order. How great is that?!
