Despite having an…read moreunassuming exterior, the interior of the shop is full of weird, random and eclectic artifacts from 19th century paintings and ancient magazines to twenty year old Coke (still in sealed bottles) and unwrapped 1950s Slinkys. Unlike many antique vendors who sell faux items that look the same - mostly ugly statues and new lamps designed to look antiquated - A Touch of Mystery sells items which look like they haven't been touched in decades (old fishing poles, books and Colonial era farming tools to name a few). The layout of the store is refreshingly chaotic with toys, ceramics, glass products, and hundreds of other items sprawled out with no discernible organization in their display or presentation. All of the antiques are underpriced with no item being more than $100 or so; most range between $5 and $20 dollars. It's a store that isn't particularly trying to sell you anything - it exists in a state of complete stasis: if you walk in and see a gem, you can buy it, but there's no aggressive sales, flashy tags or ornate exhibits to otherwise force a purchase from you. The gentlemen who own the place will frequently give you discounts when you go to ring up your items. On the two occasions I've gone to A Touch of Mystery, they charged me slightly under the actual total of the items I picked out. Bottom line: A Touch of Mystery is a real antique shop in a sea of pretenders. It's worth checking out.

The items are clean and in very good condition. The staff is polite, friendly and helpful. This store does home pickups in the area. The prices are very good consistently and significantly beating Goodwill. Just because it doesn't have a desired product on one trip, it's likely to have it with return trips.

I got a good deal before on some quality paint that was nearly empty but worked for the small area I needed to do. There's stuff that's close out from stores too, like Walmart brand sheets, random shampoos, cat treats, and target brand men's underwear. Those were today's random spottings. I ended up nabbing a very nice Revere Ware pot, not vintage but a nice pot. Also splurged on a silly turtle decoration. The staff is nice enough but there's not much staff, so bring your friends if you want to haul a couch out.

We came to walk around and shop and have lunch on Saturday and really had a good time inside the Local's Marketplace. Think - Painted Tree Boutique with all different little vendor stalls with their unique items. Some are handmade and new like soaps or art while some are just vintage stalls with clothing, home decor and shoes and such. It's all three levels - though the third only has a few vendors currently. What I loved was that each stall has an honor system where you bag and pay for the item using Cash App or Venmo yourself. Vibes inside were great and friendly and I saw some excellent local art and unique items. Left with some car scents from Kacie's Honey Pot that smell SO good!

Mr. Brill was very sweet and we talked for about half and hour. I would call before you stop in, as he said he's not always there but if you're in town and the door is open, go inside. I was so happy to find another place to shop and a place that houses antiques and other vendors. The best part of this is local vendors are located within Sutton River Antiques. One of the vendors supplies them with sourdough bread. All of the vendors had their stuff, neatly organized and displayed very cute. I found the prices to be very reasonable. All sales are final. Follow them on their Facebook page as they update frequently and vendors bring in new items consistently. i'm extremely excited that we have a store here like this in town.
