A fish tank. A TV is on the ceiling of the clinic I was in. But what I mainly noticed was what was done during my scale and clean. It's one of the best ones I've had and i was thankful for the fluoride foam on the tooth tray which was at the end. My old dentist uses a blue gel which is fairly gummy and it's kinda gross seeing as you're not to rinse it out for half an hour. They smear it on with a cotton wad and it gets all over my lips and tongue. X-rays are instant. They show up on a computer monitor also mounted up high so that you, the patient, can it straight away. They also took some photos using a tube camera of the tops of my teeth which were also displayed instantly. I got a care pack on leaving, containing a toothbrush, two mini toothpaste, a stick flosser and magnet. Should you be too early there is also a cafe just two shops away.

There's a spacious brand-new waiting room with a TV (blah) and a lot of magazines, including awesome trashy mags for women (When did Madonna's daughter become that tall? And why do I care? Well, anything to distract me from the upcoming dental drill, surely the most commonly-used torture instrument still in use throughout Australia). Shockingly, my appointment was on time. I was the third patient of the day, so that might be something to do with it - but still you get the feeling of a well-run ship here. There was only one counter staff member, but she can call on her mother if she needs help (her mother is a dental assistant who also works here). I hate the dentist. But if you have to go, here's a good place.

Although, I am of the opinion that it's more the thought of going to the dentist that's troubling rather than the half an hour actually in the chair. That was certainly the case when I visited Doctor Leanne Leung at Ashgrove Dental. My understanding is that most people base their choice of dentist on recommendations and a long association with a particular practice. I chose Ashgrove Dental based entirely on convenience of location and the fact I am incredibly lazy. But at no stage was I given reason to regret my choice. The receptionist was relaxed and informal which allowed me to relax a bit. I didn't wait long for Doctor Leung to usher me into the chair and it seemed like no time at all before i was bounding out of it. Gentle and professional the whole way through Doctor Leung finished the consultation by explaining exactly what was going on in mouth. The bad news, I would be needing a hole filled. The good, I would be getting it done at Ashgrove Dental.

A dental group that doesn't judge!…read more After visiting Essential Dental Group a few times (turns out my teeth have more than a few fillings) I was whole-heartedly ready to recommend this to others, and have done so. The business was recommended to me by my doctor, whose advice I trust. I actually decided to drop in to Essential Dental before my first booking, since I was in the area. When I asked for an initial booking, I expected to hear "Well, we have a space opening up in about 5 weeks..." and instead got, "What time? This afternoon?" There's always an opening at Essential Dental, but I can attest this has nothing to do with the quality of work here. Hidden away on the top floor at Paddington Central, even some staff working in the larger complex had to be informed by me that the place actually existed. Not only have I been able to book appointments at the last minute, they're also fine about cancelling appointments, too (which I don't like to do to them because they're so damn nice. Even if they are dentists.) And the appointments are very, very cheap relative to that of other dentists. The dentist himself is aware that people like to watch their money, so he'll give you several options for immediate action if you're cash-strapped during a particular appointment (or want to chicken out of another filling). Or, if money is no object, he'll fix up whatever you want then and there. I knew I had a few issues with the molars up the back when I rocked up here. I expected the usual dental professional's overreaction to their state, which looks fine to me but has had other dentists practically fainting. At Essential Dental, the dentist just nodded indifferently at my molars and went ahead with the job. No judgment whatsoever. Unbelievable. He didn't even accuse me of not flossing enough, or tell me the way I'm brushing my teeth is wrong. I'm still stunned. Get your teeth done here. I hate having to go to the dentist - the drill is surely intended as a torture instrument (the film Marathon Man proves this). But if you gotta go, go here.

Their location in the Roma Street Transit Centre looks a bit…read moredodgy from the outside so I was a bit dubious at the start, but they came highly recommended so thought I'd give them a go. 5 years later and I won't do anywhere else - I've moved to Melbourne and I will still co-ordinate my dentists visits with my trips back to Brisbane. Professional, skilled, reasonably priced and not prone to overcharging for unnecessary work like some I could mention. Just great :-)

Nearly fell asleep in the chair while they were drilling as my jaw was numb and I couldn't feel a thing! They also gave me a wedge to put in my mouth to hold it open so I didn't even get a sore jaw... great invention. The staff were excellent and like to explain as you go which I liked. They were very affordable too. Highly recommended!

We went to see Dr Jones for my 3 month old son who had a lip and tongue tie that were effecting…read morebreastfeeding. We were recommended to Dr Jones because of her use of lasers to remove the ties. As a mom I was worried about the procedure and how my son would go with any pain involved. In the end I think there were more tears by me before the procedure than him after. Dr Jones was vert thorough with her explanation of the tongue and lip tie and the effects on breastfeeding, the procedure itself and the aftercare. My husband and I felt 100% confident in our decision to have her fix this. All of here staff seemed to be so loving with my son. After the procedures I could tell immediately it had helped with his feeding. The receptionist, Meg, is lovely and really helpful with any questions that you may have before or after. She called to make sure my son was doing well a few days after the procedure, which he was just hours after he was all smiles.
