The staff was customer service oriented and they smiled and asked where we were from. I did have a conversation with them and they indicated that they lived in Bakersfield. It's the closest big city. I also noticed on the map that there are many prisons in this area of the valley and so I assumed that a lot of families coming to visit their loved ones. Probably stop here. Nevertheless, the selection of beverages, snacks, toiletries, nice cashiers, and the clean restrooms was a good experience.

He told me how to work the pump station because I prepaid. When I went back, I followed his instructions and it resetted the screen to show nothing. So I went back inside and had to wait for him because he disappeared to the back. He told me to use another pump station and going to a new pump station worked.

To make matters worse, I was incorrectly charged $25 for a supposedly missing washcloth. I did not take anything from the property. The washcloth had fallen behind the small trash can, and it appears housekeeping simply overlooked it and assumed it was missing. I should not have been charged based on that incorrect assumption. When I called to dispute the charge, I spent 49 minutes on the phone with a customer service agent, who repeatedly went back and forth without resolving the issue. Instead of correcting the erroneous charge, I was told to call back the following morning at 11:00 a.m. to speak with the manager. It was extremely frustrating to spend that much time on the phone only to have the issue remain unresolved. Based on this experience, I will never stay at the Lost Hills, CA property again. The poor condition of the property, lack of proper maintenance, pest issue, and handling of the billing error resulted in a very disappointing experience. When I did finally speak to the manager about the refund, he said he would take care of it. Then he immediately called me back and said I had to remove my "terrible" review and then he would refund the $25 erroneous charge. I said I would not remove the review and would just eat the erroneous charge. I will also be reporting the property to the health department and BBB.

The other gas pump stations belong to another gas company so you won't be able to use the app discount there. There aren't any signs indicating the gas pump division of brands so you have to remember it or ask the Shell attendant in the convenience store. This location is a bit cramped since there was some renovation happening in the commercial store next to it, which encroaches the gas station's space. But all in all, we got very cheap gas here as long as you are using the right pump number.

So yeah, should you need anything gas, food, snack, tesla, a massive assortment of lottery scratchers, or just meet the nice cashiers...this is the place to stop at Taft for all those things. Why gas stations feel they need to become Sam's Clubs is beyond me. We stop here because most of the time the restroom is clean. Gas is high and the occasional I-5 dumper that will stink up the toilets causes me to only give this place 3 stars. Worth the visit? If you gotta go or on a clock like me, it might be the best around. Just be prepared to pay more for gas and occasionally overcome the stink of an I-5 crapper.
