Expect to be waiting over a hour to be seen. Made sure I scheduled an early appointment after the last appointment took 2 hours to be seen and it still doesn't matter. You will be waiting. I noticed the coworkers have to stop and chit chat with one another in between patients hence why it probably takes so long. read more

Horrible communication!!! Read the other reviews & you'll see that nothing has changed! My optometrist referred me to this practice after diagnosing me with cataracts. My husband found out that he couldn't get the day off for my first surgery, so I immediately called the surgery manager to reschedule. It went to voicemail with a message saying that she would call back within 24-48 hours. She never responded. I called her and other personnel a total of 8 times over the next few weeks and never received a call back. Finally with great frustration, I left a message to cancel the surgery. It didn't get cancelled. The surgery manager said she never got any of my messages. We had to go out of the state for a few weeks and I called to schedule my surgery for a date after we returned. I told the operator that everyone claims that they never receive my messages, so can she pass my message along? Well, she told me that 3 mos would have passed before the next available surgery date, so I would have to start all over again and schedule the two evaluations again before having surgery! Ugh!!! I'm going to another practice and I'm letting everyone I know to stay away from this frustrating place! read more

I had my consult for cataracts and corrected lens, May 15th at 10am. I was there 2 hrs- most of the staff were friendly and nice. I've been calling trying to schedule surgery since May 16, I have left 9 voice mails, 2 email request for contact and called my eye doctor twice to see if they could assist me. This place is a racket. If you have an option to get your eyecare elsewhere, I would certainly recommend it. I was having a significant retina problem with my left eye. My ophthalmologist referred me to the Eye Specialty Group. She told me they were very good at their job. However, my referral was to a glaucoma doctor, which I though was weird. I arrived at my appointment, and after waiting an hour, they finally saw me. Everything was going fine and they diagnosed my problem. And then they told me they could not help me because I do not have medical insurance. I asked them for the cost of the treatment which they shared with me, and I immediately informed them that I was capable of paying out-of-pocket. They still refused to treat me. I once again, let them know I was more than capable of paying out-of-pocket. Again, they stated they could not help me with treatment because they only will accept insurance. So why did they take my money for this visit? Why did they have me see a glaucoma doctor when I needed a retina specialist? They told me that they would refer me to a university medical facility that would be able to assist me. I waited, and I waited, and I waited to never receive the referral or any other communication from this doctors office. I found another retina specialist who would take my payments, and was able to significantly help my retina issue. I can now see out of my left eye. Praise God! I truly believe this organization is in business to scam insurance companies. They do not care about your health. They do not care about the "do no harm" requirement of being a doctor. Dr. Asyvia Powell-Brawner was nice and professional. But, the office staff proved to be Incompetent, noncommunicative, desensitized and inconsiderate. My daughter scheduled a appt. to get checked for a eye disease, the Dr. ended up dilating her eyes...my daughter wasn't told what to expect with the dilation of her eyes (blurry vision and eye sensitivity to the sun), my daughter proceeded to the front desk, asked if she could put on her contacts and drive herself home, the office staff said yes. Well she couldn't, she couldn't see when she exited the office, her eyes were sensitive to the sun and could barely see to make a phone call. Thank God for Siri...she called me to ask me if her inability to see was normal.. I called the office spoke to Leslie, relayed info to her and she said "we have sunglasses here she should of grabbed." How would she know to grab them if no one advised her that's what the sunglasses are there for? Leslie said "our patients can't see close up but can see far." Don't sound like she knows what she's talking about, but okay Leslie. So, its ok for your patients to drive with impaired vision? Leslie tried, but came across as lacking apathy. After all, it is Friday and close to closing time. No consideration for patient comfort or safety. As someone who works in the medical field I know from experience people that don't work in ophthalmology don't know these things, its the OFFICE STAFFs RESPONSABILITY to inform their patients. Be warned: Their front desk staff don't take initiative to make sure Dr's patients are well informed. Ask questions, be vigilant. Half the time people are only there for "the check" and don't care about quality patient care. P.S. My husband and I have gotten our eyes dilated before and our ophthalmologists staff ALWAYS tells us before hand that its not advised to drive home, they recommend a driver and always discuss the effects of the eye drops of dilation for us. My wife had cataract surgery on her left eye and when she was examined the day after the surgery the examining doctor, Dennis Matthews told my wife that something was wrong after he did an X-ray on her eye and told her that she needed to see the doctor that did the surgery, Andrew Crothers because something was wrong so my wife scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks because that's when the doctor was supposed to be back at that office! My wife complained for the whole two weeks that she couldn't see because her vision was blurred! When Doctor Crothers examined the eye he claimed that he didn't see everything and didn't get everything out and said that she needed to have another surgery on the same eye and they charged more for the second surgery then they did for the first one on the same eye! So she was told to come back the next day and the other doctor said everything looked good and she came back a week later for another exam and my wife said she was seeing better so they wanted her to come back one more time but my wife refused to have anything else to do with that place and she doesn't want them to do cataract surgery on the other eye either! I think that they maybe scamming my wife just to make more money because we talked to an elderly woman who said that she had the same thing happen to one of her eyes and she was seeing that same surgeon the same day my wife was seeing him! She said he did surgery on her other eye but there was no problem at all and she was seeing really good! I don't like the fact that my wife was charged twice for the same eye so if I could give this place a minus 10 I would! Hiya Yelp family, I have to give major cudos to the staff at Eye Specialty Group. I recently found out I needed cataract surgery and was recommended by my optometrist to this group. Being in the medical field for most of my life, I didn't go with the first one. I did my research and was pleased with the background of the Drs on staff. I even had the privilege of interning at the same hospital my surgeon did his fellowship. From the initial visit I knew this was the place to be. The preoperative visit, eye exams even the ladies in the billing and scheduling were all very professional, and knowledgeable in their roles. I was very comfortable in asking questions and getting an answer. I didn't feel any runaround. My surgeon, Dr. Gollamundi is very pleasant to speak with, answered all my questions and definitely knows what he's doing in the operating room. The preoperative nursing staff made us all feel very relaxed and comfortable. I wish I had their names, but suffice it to say that they all should be commended. My followup visits with Drs. Kirk and Matthews also went extremely well. Dr. Kirk is friendly and bubbly extremely knowledgeable and very easy to talk with, whereas Dr. Matthews is more straightforward, but still very approachable. He listens to my questions and answers concisely and even adds a joke or comment. All of the support staff, from the office personnel, techs and nurses in my opinion go well above and beyond with regards to customer service and their expertise in their prospective jobs. As a medical specialist myself, (even though I no longer work in the medical field, I'll always be a nurse) it's heartwarming to see that compassion hasn't been completely removed from the medical experience. I'm looking forward to my next surgery(that sounds a bit strange doesn't it ?) with these fine professionals. read more

Extremely satisfied with my EVO lens implementation! I went from a -7.50 with astigmatism to a 15/20 with getting 1 letter right on 10/20 vision!! Dr. Gollamundi was my surgeon but 90% of my interactions and consultations were with Ramon (his assistant) and Dr. Kirk (another eye doctor) for my follow ups. The check in process was a breeze filling out the paperwork ahead of time online. They seemed to be "always on call" if I had any questions leading up to and after surgery. It was a bit of a time commitment to come and go to both locations (Collierville and Ridge Lake) for initial consult, measurements, follow ups but would do it all again 100x over and I was in no hurry. Just wished I would have been able to do this 20 years sooner haha! read more

Worse place ever. Had my cataracts removed here and my left eye has never been the same since. I was better off before having the cataracts removed. My husband had a detached retina and saw Dr Brown - he is the most arrogant person I have ever met. He really thinks he is God's gift to medicine but I promise you, he is not. The staff and medical services are great. But the place seems to be managed horribly. A visit that should take about 20 minutes takes 2 hours. They require that you agree to a form that says that you will pay them $25 if you miss an appointment. There is no way to discuss this mandatory agreement. I was a bit anxious to go to my appointment because it had been sooo many years since I had been, not to mention the fact I am old (lol) and I am on medicine that diminishes your eye sight AND my father had macular degeneration. yep...kind of dumb on my part. Dr. Linn and his team are great. Never had such a thorough eye exam. The entire process takes time (1.5 hrs) and Dr. Linn is very knowledgeable, no nonsense, on point with diagrams and teaching aids for a complete description of the problem and a plan to fix it. His staff is efficient and well trained. I waited no more than 10 minutes before the exam and another 15 minutes for the final exam and preoperative evaluation and discussion with the doctor. read more

B*U*Y*E*R * B*E*W*A*R*E!!! I wanted to get lens replacement surgery and Eye Specialty Group was recommended by my optometrist. I must say that EVERY step of the journey was an exercise in frustration. INITIAL CONSULTATION: I called to make an appointment. The receptionist forwarded me to a message machine, and I left a message. I heard nothing for three days, so I called again and left a second message. No word for three more days, so I called again and left a third message. On the tenth day, when the receptionist said she was going to forward my call yet again, I complained. She said she would call the department directly herself, and she connected me. They were very apologetic and friendly. CONSULTATION APPOINTMENT: I went in for my consultation on a Wednesday, and they told me that someone would "contact me tomorrow to give me the cost and set up dates." Thursday and Friday came and went. I waited until the following Thursday and called in the morning. The receptionist transferred me and I left a message. I heard nothing on Thursday or Friday. On Monday morning I called an complained. Someone called me later that day. They were very apologetic and friendly. She gave me a quote, and told me she would personally drop off the forms at my house. THE FORMS: A dozen pages were delivered to me that evening. My name was on ten of the forms. Four times it read "Michael," which is my name. Six times it read "David." I have no idea why. But red flags are starting to go up. Why should I trust a company that is so overworked and understaffed that they make such mistakes? THE TESTS: They made an appointment for me to get my eyes measured. I showed up at 9:45, 15 minutes early. They promptly saw me at 10:05. The tests took about 10 minutes, and they told me to wait for someone who would schedule my surgery. I waited and waited and waited. At 12:00 noon, I went to the desk and asked if they'd forgotten about me because I'd been sitting there for 2 hours. The receptionist looked "put out," but she got up to check. She told me they were aware that I was waiting and they'd get to me. 15 minutes later they called me back. She calculated the cost, and I told her that someone else had already given me a quote (which was a couple hundred dollars more than the quote she just gave me). She then said she would schedule the surgery. I told her the other woman had scheduled it. She called the other woman and I was told that I didn't need to stick around, that I could have left after the tests (2 1/2 hours earlier!). The left hand doesn't talk to the right hand. I thought, "What if the nurse who took my measurements transposed two of the numbers? What if she wrote David's measurements instead of Michael's?" THE DAY BEFORE THE SURGERY: I went to the bank to get cashiers checks for the surgery which had to be paid on the day of the operation. I made sure I had the right amounts, and I noticed a line that said "Anesthesia would bill me separately." I looked through the papers I'd signed, and nowhere did it say this was a separate charge. At 10:00 am I called the person who gave me the original quote, and I didn't hear from her until 4:00 that evening. She said anesthesia was an additional $600, on top of the $4300 per eye that she'd quoted me several times. CANCELLED: Every step of the way was disorganized and filled with miscommunication and mistakes. If this is the support staff that leads up to my trusting a doctor to cut open my eye, then there is a problem with the system. And I am not going to trust such an organization to perform an important, life-changing surgery such as this. I cancelled the surgery, and I'm going to look for another place that will give me the peace of mind and patient care that ALL patients deserve. read more

I had an appointment to see Dr McQuirter on Dec. 15, 2020 for my annual eye exam. My eye exam was positive with no problems with my vision. After arriving home and resting for a couple of hours, my eyes began draining a yellow mucous, turned red, with swelling and slight pain in my eyes. I talked to my wife, a registered nurse, and she thought that I had pink eye and that I should call my doctor. I called the office around 5:30pm and I talked to Dr. Crother about what was going on with my eyes. He brushed me off and proceeded to talk over me as I was trying to explain the issue with my eyes. I gave the phone to my wife to explain to Dr Crother and he was rude to her and acted as if she didn't know what she was talking about . The next morning I called Dr McQuirter and was told to come in at 11:10 and I did. Dr McQuirter examined my eyes and said that I had conjunctivitis. He gave me a prescription for tobradex st eye drops. I didn't have any problems with my eyes before the visit to see Dr McQuirter. I am sure the doctors are.. satisfactory. However, they bumped my mother's appointment twice, citing a conflict in the doctor's schedule. I called to try to switch to a doctor that had more availability. I have called 6 times, reception forwarded me to appointments everytime. Each time I was hung up on before having the opportunity to speak. I was able to get appointments twice, they forwarded me to injection scheduling. One time I actually heard someone pickup and then disconnect the line. Both appointments and injection scheduling appear to be having issues operating phones.. I left a message with reception, who were all consummate professionals, no one called back. This happened over several hours throughout the day, reception was not aware of any technical issues with the group's phone system. read more

This was an exercise in frustration. I was there with my son for 2 1/2 hours to see Matthews, who spent approximately 2 minutes with us and gave us a prescription. A week later when my son was no better I called back (as I had been instructed in the 2 minutes with the dr) and left a message that we needed another med or a refill. I have never received a return call so I followed up with my internist who informed me that the meds prescribed by dr Matthews would never help my son's condition. doctors might be competent but they clearly have operational and scheduling issues. we were asked to arrive at 9:30am (Ridgelake location) didn't get called back for our appointment until 11:30. the waiting room was filled with people, all complaining about how long they had been waiting. when I asked the desk about how much longer we had to wait, there was no apology or appearance they were concerned. only explanation they gave was that "they often double or triple book" the doctors schedule and that's why the long wait. on top of that, I had a spider come down from the ceiling on me, mosquitos flying around inside and the ladies room was dirty and messy with trash on the floor. kinda makes you wonder about the overall safety and cleanliness of this place. going to sure try to avoid coming back here. read more

Dr. Anna Rowland and the staff at Eye Specialty group are very pleasant and courteous. Since I am a new patient here and the building is a little confusing to navigate, the staff was very kind to direct me to the locations I needed to go and assisted me many times so I got to the proper rooms without getting lost. I took off one star because the wait time to see Dr. Rowland did seem very long (30plus minutes) and I fell asleep in the chair waiting for her. But once she got to me the visit was quick, she made great recommendations for eye treatment. read more

They to my dismay do not do surgeries at the Collierville location. Therefore you must go to the Ridgelake location for Surgery. Had detached retina surgery done by Dr. Christopher Brown. During the surgery Dr. Brown caused permanent nerve damage causing my eye to be permanently dilated. Due to dilation my vision is much worse after the surgery than before. Even though I continued to tell them during every return visit Dr. Brown didn't know that my eye was dilated until 3 months after my surgery, and only then because I questioned when it would go back to normal. I thought the eye drops he was giving me were making my eye stay dilated for some reason. If I could give a negative number for a review I would. Not only did he cause the damage but didn't give a damn after he found out he caused the damage. read more

I was sent preliminary paperwork back in May, with no mention of need to stop wearing contact lenses TWO WEEKS in advance of visit with tests, screening, etc. After nearly two hours and $45 (paid UPFRONT), I was told that I would have to return after not wearing contacts for two weeks and go through the entire process again - including the $45 fee. A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY - extremely POOR patient communications with no respect or consideration for patients or prospective patients. read more

Dr. Mathews may be a good doctor but the office is way too busy and they are far from prompt. After spending 3 hours for a diagnosis they recommended 3 tests at a local MRI clinic. I had to call them 3 times over the next week just to reach a human rather than an answering machine only to find out they hadn't even started the scheduling yet. Receptionist is rude and hurried....after finally getting some service I said "Thank you very much" and she just hung up on me. Dr. Crothers is excellent. His staff at the lovely, spacious and convenient Collierville office is also VERY caring and professional. But, the Ridgelake office is too crowded and the parking lot is a nightmare. Most of the staff behaved in an acceptable, if hurried and mechanical, manner. My husband's cataract surgery went well but he felt like a product on an assembly line instead of a patient. The kicker for me was after two and a half hours in a cold crowded waiting room without tv or wifi I was instructed to drive around back to a loading zone. I stood in the pouring rain with my husbands coat and umbrella until two attendants rolled him out and tried to hand him off without getting wet themselves. I was handed his cup of water (to manage with my third hand), he got in the car, and they literally threw his discharge papers at me. All the while the diva was screeching about possibly getting wet or slipping in the puddles. It was most unprofessional behavior. read more
