In the search for something fresh I came across a convenience store which housed a Smoothie Factory and Subway. When crossing over the threshold I am greeted by cool air conditioning, neat and appealing displays of all the packaged refined goodies, and two smiling faces at a beautifully lit cash register. To my left, I eye a clean sitting area with a man selling ice cold can sodas for 50 cents each. As I walk closer a young lady emerges from the back area (which happens to be quite spacious for a convenient store), presses a button, and up rises a glass screen that keeps all the veggies, meats, and other items cool and protected from anything falling or flying into to foods. Once the glass is up it serves as the typical glass barrier that you would see at any salad/sandwich bar. All the ingredients were fresh and crunchy. The service was great also. I had the veggie delite on Monterrey Cheddar bread. It was full of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, red onions, spinach, carrots, banana peppers, pepper jack cheese, Parmesan cheese, and low calorie Ranch dressing. I walked over to Smoothie Factory counter (everything was very clean) and ordered an Island Delight. I substituted the banana for coconut. Delish! I now consider this my on the go power combo meal. It's the treat I eat when I'm starved and craving fast food with fiber.
I subtracted a star because on the second visit my cucumbers didn't have the same crispness they had before, but perhaps that's because it was Saturday and the manager was away. Who wants to prep on Friday night anyway? read more
