A little out of the centre of Burton on Cross Street is Apne India Cuisine. A bright and a modern…read morefeel inside; fortunately we had got there early, so we managed to get a table but the restaurant filled quickly, a mark of the popularity of such a new restaurant. It serves soft drinks but has a no license for alcohol , so you have to either go next door to the Coopers to get a pint or bring your own. Not much of a hassle really and keeps the price of the meal down. Menu wise, fairly comprehensive with lots of classic dishes and some interesting specials. What strikes you too is the price, very reasonable compared to many Indian restaurants, the mains on average about £7. After the obligatory poppadoms, with various spicy sides, we had a mixed kebab starter - a nice mix of shish kebab, chicken tikka and a bhaji, with accompanying dressed salad, a good start. For main course I had Special Biryani, a huge portion with a good helping of prawns, lamb and chicken, with an appropriately spicy sauce - just right. My wife had a chicken Polok, spinach and chicken, and my friend had one of the specials, which had whole cloves of roasted garlic in it! All great meals, very tasty and not oily or fatty, as echoed by previous reviewers. An enjoyable meal and only £40 for poppadoms, two starters, three mains, accompanying naans and three soft drinks, that's what I call a bargain! The staff were great too, friendly and helpful, without being obtrusive, which shall return very soon.

Food is amazing. This place was one that offered take-away when in town. So glad they did. Ordered…read morethe shish kabob, nan, and lamb makhani. Delicious and very reasonably priced. A sure place I will be returning when back in town. Wish they had desserts to deliver. Maybe I missed that on the menu.

Jee Ja Jees is one Burton's most established Indian restaurants and I have dined there many times. A warm welcome is waiting for us every time we visit, which is always a good start. The front of the restaurant contains comfortable leather sofas, where you can relax whilst waiting for your table or takeaway, while having a drink from what is a sizeable and well stocked bar. The tables vary in size and are able to cope with all sizes of party, but our favourites are the spacious round tables, which are more social! The walls are adorned with murals and tree ferns pervade the dining area which adds to the ambiance. Menu wise, there is such a wide variety that it becomes almost impossible to choose. Obviously starting with poppadoms and pickle tray, then I went for a King Prawn Puri, very flavoursome, generously portioned and decorated with a sweet mango sauce around the edge, a nice touch. Mains wise between us we had some traditional dishes, - Tandoori Mixed Grill, Chicken Bhuna and I had their special Biryani. All good dishes, but the prices are approaching the expensive side, with the Biryani being just shy of £13. With accompaniments like naans, Parathas etc, this can take meals close to £25+ a head with drinks. A great meal, with friendly and efficient staff and good course pacing, but just creeping into the expensive side for regular visits, which is a shame.

The Manzil is a popular Indian restaurant, just on the periphery of Burton town centre. There is a…read morecar park to the front of the restaurant, but being on Guild Street means that leaving the car park is tricky, as this is one of the main routes into Burton. The inside of the Manzil is bright and modern, and the staff are welcoming. There are some tables near the front of the restaurant, but the main eating area is at the back. The middle section houses a well stocked bar and area where people can wait for their takeaways. The well decorated, and modern restaurant area is bright and spacious, and could probably house more tables. The feeling of not being crowded to eat your meal though is welcome. We plumped for the Manzil Mixed Biryani, as recommended by a previous reviewer and a Special Chicken Korma. The biryani was full of flavour and a great choice, the special korma was interesting with not only chicken, but also chunks of banana, pineapple and peach! We were never rushed and course pacing was perfect, overall a good night.

I deffiently recommend this place, for couples, family's and large groups.
