It is within walking distance of the Crown Bay cruise terminal. It's not much to look at from the inside, but has most of the major US grocery brands. And it serves as the place to buy household goods like light bulbs, etc. The prices were not as high as I expected, considering it's located on an island. Something unusual was that there was an entire room dedicated to refrigerated items, with the room itself refrigerated (with freezers in it to keep frozen goods). This is where the meat was kept, and it was a decent selection with comparable prices to the mainland. Ended up buying two bags of Funyons for lower than what it would be on the mainland, and some Airbourne dietary supplements to help me fight this bug that seems to continuously mutate, annoyingly throughout this trip (which still has a long way to go).

It's a good place to go if you're looking for something like brand name snacks or sodas, but the prices are high and the store isn't very nice inside. This feels like a dirty discount market, and it's definitely a place that locals shop. You aren't going to find any gourmet items, just regular day to day essentials. I love looking in markets when I travel, so I had to check this place out. They have a small liquor area with a big selection of rum (particularly flavored Cruzan). Crossing the busy street is something else, and bring your patience. It's best just to follow a confident local when crossing, or you'll be waiting all day. Don't go out of your way to shop here, but if you're looking for an authentic local experience, this is your grocery store!

The store was over-stuffed, as are many of the small stores on St. Croix, but the proprietor was very friendly and accommodating. He even encouraged me to try a little tune on the vintage steel pan they have in the store. Nice little shop if you want a snack, a souvenir or a bottle of run, with the local Cruzan lining the shelves.

I bought their raw chicken thin cutlets for a "clean" source of protein; the cutlets sautéed quickly in my Westin kitchen. Their raw eggs made delicious scrambled eggs for breakfast. This market stocks yummy baked treats that I used for breakfast and afternoon "tea" on my Westin balcony. The selection of food was perfect for me to prepare balanced meals in the limited Westin kitchen (no oven). So glad I could walk here!

We arrived shortly before 8:00, after calling to confirm their hours, and letting them know we were in our way. Upon arrival we sat down and the owner came to us and talked through their wines, including what was available by the glass. We started off with two glasses of wine, his choice, which were so nice. Knowing we were coming for a board, he had prepared an amazing board with multiple cheeses, meats and accoutrements. The owner is a true gem and was so sweet and friendly with us and the other guests that stopped in while we were there. If you're looking for some great wine options, a beautiful and quaint atmosphere, and maybe a night off of conk fritters and mahi, Island Cork is a spot worth checking out!

The selection is not as big as some of the other grocery store that I have been to here though. I also noticed that a lot of their items did not have prices marked on them. They have meats, alcohol, fruit, drinks, breakfast food, and everything in between. I did not however, see a bakery or pharmacy. I just stopped in here to get some quick snacks to hold me between my restaurant visits. I probably would not do my major grocery shopping here though, as Plaza Extra has slightly lower prices, larger selection, and larger quantities. As most reviewers noted, this place is a bit cleaner and organized than the other places, but I can bear it to save a few bucks. The staff was not mean, nor were they over friendly. They did their jobs. They would tell you where something was, if you asked, but they were not very engaging or welcoming. They were all business. It is a decent place to get some quick items, if you are in the area, but if you have time you may want to comparative shop and see where you can find the best deals.

Just be aware that they are more expensive and less inventory than other markets in the area.read more
