As an absolute…read morebeginner I wasn't sure what to expect, but having done a bit of sailing and horse riding in the past I was well aware of how stuffy and sneery clubhouse-based sports can be. That couldn't be further from the truth at the Garforth range, where I found everyone to be incredibly helpful and pleasant, even when faced with what must have seemed the most obvious of newbie questions. My instructor, who's name I will find and add to the review later, was patience personified, and explained and demonstrated everything he wanted me to do very clearly. Obviously, as a rank beginner it's not going to take too much to impress me, but £20 for a 30 minute session (inc balls and clubs) took me from just about knowing which end of the club to hold to a level where I was competent and confident enough to work on my technique unsupervised. £5 for 100 balls kept me there until my thumb blistered, and I was glad of those auto-tees in the bays that save you bending over each time to fetch a new ball. It's about 20 mins out from Leeds city centre by car so it's not the closest one to me, but I felt so comfortable that I'll definitely be going back. The reception also doubles as a large golf shop but at golf shop prices, so if you just need a cheap glove I'd hit sports soccer first.

I also often see Tony and Gavin tirelessly striving to give junior members the opportunity to learn and progress through golf whilst making it enjoyable for them also... The fact that the Studio is built alongside a very well maintained municipal course with chipping area and putting green with side bunker also offers a practical solution to training and game play combined... I have physically see the Swing Studio grow in popularity due to the endless efforts and investments they have manage to achieve and wish them all the very best of luck with it

As seems to becoming a trend with my reviews I'll add a little caveat to my review as of December…read moreI'd only ever used a golf club once and that was to play a game of rounders with a putter which ended in a smashed window, so as far as the course goes I have no idea, however they do a kids group on Sundays which is aimed at getting new people playing The lessons are grouped into blocks of five which is £25 per child, lessons last an hour and include the equipment they will need to learn. The lessons cover how to play, basics such as markers and club names, and etiquette for the course. My son and daughter both love the lessons and are on their third block with progress being made . Inspired by the kids and looking for a new hobby we have since started lessons which are £35 for a family of four for an hour, with clubs and balls being provided. The other great advantage this provides is you can go up whenever you want borrow some balls and a club and practice what you have been shown during the lessons this is at no extra cost We've had a couple of lessons now and can see the effect the lessons are having I would recommend anyone who wants to see if they like golf or not to give this a go

It does what it says on the tin, and indeed many of the holes are not much longer than your average seaside pitch and putt. Very flat, and few challenges for the advanced golfer; but excellent value at £5 (£6 on weekends). Friendly staff, well maintained course, and driving range on the same site.

A…read morebeautiful gym situated by a small lake with outside dining area leading from a well-priced and pretty darn good cafe inside. The staff were lovely, the gym itself extremely modern and well spaced. The swimming pool is a good size though trying to avoid the oap's or kids sessions in the day was hard and sometimes got frustrated at the stopping and starting of any training. Loved the smaller cold pool adjacent the sauna and steam rooms and the gym floor itself. Great place.
