I also experienced the process as financially burdensome without seeing what I believed to be meaningful advocacy or protection for my child's best interests. A guardian ad litem holds significant influence in custody and family court matters, and families rely on that role to remain objective, thorough, child-focused, and accountable. In my experience, I did not feel those standards were met in my case.
