Not this time around. It was a rainy day on Saturday and they offered only ONE class at 7am. It was a nice art print making class. Friday night there was a sound bath as well. We were bored out of our minds. Staff is nice, they are very accommodating and it's a beautiful nature filled environment to be in but I was disappointed in their lack of classes. I'm not the one who planned it out so maybe they have certain packages. I basically went there to eat. I could have done that in my home town at nicer restaurants for the price they charged. It's not meant for families, it's more for corporate businesses. The food was a bit too fancy as well for our 13 year old and me as well at times. For breakfast I just want a simple omelette and toast. It has gotten a bit too fancy with the food. So please be aware if you have kids. It's more adult oriented and on weekends they don't provide many classes. It was disappointing to say the least. Waste of money. Would rather have used it on a better vacation experience. Oh well..you live and learn.

Firstly, do not ever give them money up front. You will never have a chance to get refunded if anything goes wrong. That being said, we are out over $7,000 because my daughter decided this wasn't the school for her seven weeks into the program, sorry, it says on their website, no refunds. This was their first year in business and I was only trying to help them out. At the end of the school year when my son decided this was not the program for him either (this being after he was left unattended in the woods on one of the hottest days of the year, without water...among other issues of negligence), we were forced to simply give up all that money. I think there are issues of not only negligence, but bullying, sexism, and really what I found to be fraud on the owner/teachers part. They will tell you anything to get you in, but once you are in, you find nothing happens unless you make it. Which is the way life works anyways, so why give them money? I think for the right family/child situation, this school may work. I was sorely dissapointed that this was not the program I was led to believe it was....and I'm out $7,000.

The students are engaged and bright and the mentors are encouraging, resourceful and available to help guide the students in the pursuits of their individual passions. Students are involved in every aspect of their own personal educational journey. Lessons evolve through logical learning based on the individuals goals and aspirations. Boredom and burnout do not exist and that leads to a lifelong passion for learning. The founders/owners of Wilderness Skills Institute are to be congratulated on creating a truly unique and inspirational environment for a nature-based and nature-connected learning experience. My children and family will continue to benefit from what they started. This really is education "the way it was meant to be". I wish every child had the opportunity to attend a school like this. I was happily surprised. Brannon was an excellent instructor. He made the course content engaging and genuinely rewarding. You can tell he really knows his stuff and has years of experience behind him. I walked away from the classroom portion with a ton of useful information--things I never would've considered if I hadn't taken this class. The physical training portion was a full-day event, and Brannon and his team placed a huge emphasis on safety and proper technique. The class wasn't just informative--it was a lot of fun. We covered a wide range of issues and real-world scenarios related to carrying a concealed weapon, including the legal side of things, all with a strong focus on California-specific laws (which, as you know, are some of the strictest in the country). Don, who has a teenager of his own right now, was a great teacher for my 17-year-old. He did three…read moreseparate two-hour lessons over the course of about a year (but would have done them in six months if we were ready). He was calm and patient and put my child at ease. He always checked in with one of us parents after the lesson with a handout showing the skills they covered in the lesson and with verbal feedback on how things went. In the last lesson, he went over specific "automatic fails" to avoid for the driver's test that none of us knew about or expected. My child passed the driver's test the first time, so I am very pleased! When my younger son needs to learn, we will give Don a call again!
