the bradford general store is decent for its market ... which can also be categorized as something…read moreclose to the middle of nowhere (the next restaurant is 4 miles away, the nearest gas station 5.5 miles away, the next larger grocery 10 miles away). it's a small grocery/convenience store that also sells hot sandwiches, pizza, various fried things, beer and wine. it does not, however, sell alcohol on sundays, by town ordinance.
the store also opens at 5:30am on monday through saturday, it's just not an option on yelp's hours.
it does have a fairly broad selection of grocery and convenience items, from baking chocolate to eggs to worms to tobacco to soda, if at a high price due to the locale. some of the packaged items are old, though, by the time you've bought and opened them.
they do have one of the old squirt-your-own slush puppy machines, which is pretty cool.
the pizza is actually pretty good - the cheese they use is the best part, it's pretty tasty and plentiful. otherwise, the pizza is thin, but not crispy, with fat and soft outer crust that doesn't have nearly as much flavor as does the cheese. they do sell slices. as a picky vegetarian who just got served a pepperoni on her cheese pizza, though, i'm not sure that i'll order from them again. on the other hand, the made-to-order food is all pretty reasonably priced.
other gripes include seemingly always having to wait in a line that moves as slow as death while some mother buys her week's groceries and baby items, or while some guy can't figure out what kind of cigarettes or lottery tickets he wants. there are two cash registers (one credit card machine, i believe), but i've only seen the second open once. even entering the store for only a few minutes always results in me smelling like the fryer and smoke (from the clientele).
on the plus side, they paved the parking area earlier this summer. hooray. the parking situation is still an unmarked free-for-all, though, so pay attention to other cars and people when pulling in and out.
in the end, you're probably not going to use this review to decide whether or not you're going to visit this establishment; if you're passing by, you'll stop if you need to without checking yelp, and if you live close enough, you'll go because it's close. but maybe, this time, you'll notice the slush puppy machine :)
