I interviewed 4 companies and chose Excel for their quality products (I chose Bosch), the time Jim Vance spent with me, answering my many questions and not only explaining my new unit but drawing it out too. The installation hit a couple unforeseeable snags so the project was 3 days, but they made sure that we had heat. I also was able to meet several of their staff and was very impressed by their work ethic, knowledge and kindness. I had to call this week about a rattle I had never heard before. Kyle was here the NEXT morning. He spent several hours under my house and inside. He didn't "see" anything but removed and retightened possible causes. We waited for 2 cycles of the unit and we believe the rattle is gone. If not Kyle assured me that it would be fixed if it reappeared. I am very thankful to Excel Heating and Cooling for excellent service staff and product. PS they also sent me the most delicious airpacked sleeve of fresh cookies in a tote, that was a huge hit at Thanksgiving week in WNY, as a thank you. read more

Original complaint: My AC would not turn off / running constantly. Diagnosis: Bryan w/Excel Heating & Air stated my ac's coil was leaking & currently blowing "poisonous" R22 refrigerant into house. He stuck an instrument inside unit in garage and it began beeping nonstop, which he said indicated the coil leaking. He also stated the motor needed to be replaced even tho it was running non stop. He stated my AC was not worth fixing and needed to be replaced at an approx. cost of $7000. He advised me he put some coolant in ac even tho it was leaking to make me "comfortable overnight" but it would eventually leak out; and said no charge for the added coolant. Lastly, he adjusted the thermometer settings on the wall before leaving & the ac was still running when he left. We agreed I would call him w/a decision the following a.m. He asked me to call him on his cell number listed on business card. Instead, he called me the following a.m. at 10:30 to see if I'd made a decision. That same morning, a 2nd opinion from a different heating & air company first looked at thermostat & stated the ac was turned to off position. He later verified my ac is working fine, but the motor itself was stuck in the "on" position and was why it was running continually and needed to be replaced @ $815. He assured me there is NO LEAK in the coil. They put the same instrument in garage unit (as Bryan had used the previous day) & there was no beeping to indicate a leak. I was dumbfounded. He concluded my entire ac did NOT need to be replaced, only the motor. I called Excel Heating & Air back to report these findings, talked to DAVID. I did not mention Bryan had stated he added coolant until David asked if I would pay for coolant added. I verified Bryan said no charge for the added coolant and did not charge me anything before leaving. (Why did Bryan shut the ac off on thermostat before leaving the previous day if he added coolant?). Moral to story: ALWAYS GET 2ND OPINION. I originally called Excel because of their 100% rave, positive reviews. However I am aware there are companies businesses can hire to input positive reviews online for a fee. read more

We had proble with our air conditionin, it stopped working. I called Excel guys and Jon came in and fixed it in no time. He showed what was wrong. I called midday to schedule an emergency appointment and was given one for 3 o'clock. When I called back to verify I got the runaround 3 times. I asked for someone to call me, no one did. I made 4 phone calls today and only the first person was even close to nice. The other 3 were way rude. They probably do have excellent technicians, but their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. I think they need some training. Needless to say, no one showed up and no one called me back after 4 tries. I will never call them again. read more

They were able to accommodate me the same day and I was grateful for that. The service man, Erik, was pleasant, professional and quick too. Called for appointment, made 9 days out as they were quite busy. No working AC at my house. Appointment made for 2nd appointment of day. I take off work! Call morning of appointment to confirm and no morning appointment on file. Took off work for nothing. Edit, later that day: Excel called back and had been watching their techs to see if anyone could come. They informed me a tech was available to come immediately. I had gone to work (hour drive) and couldn't make it back. This showed a lot of effort from them to fix a booking mistake. Kudos. read more

Does not stand behind their work. Paid $5300 to install a new unit, which went smoothly. 2.5 years later when finishing the room where the unit was installed, I discovered the line running from the indoor unit to the outdoor unit had been poorly installed, causing it to stick out 8 inches from the wall as compared to 1 inch for the other line on the other unit. I was willing to pay to have this resolved. It took 4 broken appointments to get a person out to give an estimate. The estimate was $150 if they could do the cheapest solution and $400-500 if not. I said OK either way, it sounded reasonable for the work. Two appointments to schedule the work later, and the techs finally show up. They charge a $70 service fee to tell me that they don't have the supplies to do the work and it will actually be $718 for the exact same solution I had discussed with the previous employee. Being that this problem was caused by Excel, I attempted to negotiate a lower price (not free, mind you just around the $400-500 as initially quoted). Excel claimed it had been "years and years" and they couldn't fix the problem with their own installation for anything less and wouldn't even credit the $70 service fee I was charged for their techs to tell me they came unprepared. I have another $4000 unit installation coming up in the next 1-2 years, but again that held no sway. And they've now lost that business and all future service calls. Plus a ding on their Google reviews. They're friendly and professional but don't keep appointments, take days to return a phone call, nickel and dime you with inappropriate fees, and most importantly - Excel does not stand behind their work. read more

I highly recommend Excel. We bought a house that had been remodeled/added-on-to a couple of times. The HVAC was ancient and not installed the best possible way to keep the house comfortable. We had Excel (Jake) out to do an estimate for us. He spent ages going through the house, identifying the quirks and working out a good solution. We had others bid on the job as well, but Excel's proposal was, by far, the most thorough, creative and used the most modern options. The install guys were the best. Polite, clean, on-time and happy to explain what they were working on/keep us updated throughout. Clay and Caleb are the best. We had a little glitch in one of the systems (quirky house = two different systems with multiple zones). I called and they came out right away to get it fixed (bad circuit board on the installed equipment) and followed up the next day to make sure it was working correctly. I cannot praise them enough. We are jumping on the opportunity to get a maintenance contract in place with them. We have great confidence in their company. read more

I would just like to say how pleased I was with the service and installation of my new furnace. My furnace blew on a Thursday and Excel immediately called Monday morning and by Tuesday afternoon the furnace was installed. Jake was extremely professional and courteous when coming to the house and explaining the various furnaces and payment options. He then took me through the whole process. The installers were there the next morning on time and did a great job on the install keeping the pipes in a way to keep out of the way. They completed the job while I was at work. The basement was left clean and they were done around the time I got off work. They proceeded to go through the options on the thermostat and explained the controls. Jake stopped over the house the next day and examined the job and went over the thermostat as well. The followup was appreciated. Highly recommended! read more

When our AC broke yesterday, we sweated both literally and figuratively, knowing how expensive a replacement unit would be and wondering how long we'd have to wait for a diagnostic visit. I called Excel last night and their answering service said they don't have 24-hour service for new customers (major bummer) so I left a message. We made it through the night and at 7:30 this morning their office called. The very polite service tech (Paul) was here by 8:15, quickly diagnosed the problem (diagnosis fee was $70) and replaced the part which he had had in his truck for about $150. Less than an hour later the AC was working and we were all able to go on with our day. I would definitely do business with Excel again based on this positive experience, although I do wish they'd clarify their 24-hour service policy on their website. read more

As an employee of a local general contractor that uses Excel regularly, I've come to expect consistent, exceptional work from Excel. This was the first time I had used Excel at my personal home and I was not disappointed. Steve, the technician, quickly solved the problem with our heat pump that was no longer functioning. I can't say enough positive things about this company. It is pretty devastating to find out your 7 year old (builder installed) AC unit is "totaled" and you need to replace it, but the staff and technicians at Excel worked their magic and got it taken care of quickly. We were in a bind after tenants in our rental property had been without AC for almost 2 weeks, due to the poor customer service of another company we had initially gone with. Fed up, I called Excel for a second opinion. I had the pleasure of working with Brandon, Bradley and Jake from the diagnosis through installation. Not only did I experience polite and understanding voices on the other end of the line, but it's apparent that all those employed at Excel have an intimate knowledge of their products and business practices. This made for an efficient and pleasant experience during a frustrating situation. These guys do what they say they will and show up on time. Their prices are reasonable too. I had put in a service request to Excel and our tech, Steve S, was delayed a bit on a previous job. He called me, asked what was going on, then asked some very specific questions and asked if I wanted to try to resolve what he felt was a straight-forward problem. Beings I am cheap by nature, I was game. Seems I was not diligent with changing my filters and the air handler was frozen up. His explanation was clear and concise - he seemed confident that my problem was easily resolved. I gave the heat-pump a rest the previous night (BEFORE calling Excel) and waited until late afternoon the next day to try it. It gradually, slowly (just like he said), cooled off. 83 down to 74 six hours later - 70 this a.m.! I called the office to share my experience. Not often to still find knowledgeable technicians with integrity and good work practice today, so they are at the top of my list for future HVAC issues! read more

Excel was great to work with when our HVAC died. They gave us our options and opinions when we asked for it but we felt no sales pressure by them at any time. I had a heating issue at my office one cold winter morning. I made one call to the guys at Excel and they got to me that day! They got to my office and had me up and running in no time at all. These guys are friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. The thing that impressed me the most was the price. I would highly recommend them to anyone with any type of heating or cooling need. BE CAREFUL They said water may have gotten into my oil tank and frozen and recommended that I pay $100 to have an additive poured into the top of the tank. I got a second oipinion and was told that a) there is no way to know if this was the problem until the Spring b) even if this was the problem it would do absolutely no good till the weather got warm enough for long enough to melt the water inside the shaded oil tank c) the product costs less than $10..... So I was told to pay $100 for a $10 product that would take someone 5 seconds to pour in and this service would do me NO GOOD. I spoke to a service rep at Excel who admitted that all of this was TRUE but it was still standard proceedure to recommend this service!!!! Thank you Rockingham Petroleum for telling me the truth and fixing the the real problem ....which Excel did not find when they came out. I just wish I didn't have to pay Excel the service charge for coming out and doing nothing- except try to bilk me out of even more money. read more

After hearing our A/C unit buzzing on and off yesterday, I called Excel Heating and Air first thing in the morning to see if we could get a service call scheduled. They were very helpful on the phone and said a technician was in my neighborhood and would be able to come by in just a couple of hours. The technician (Steve Stroop) arrived promptly, as promised. After checking the main air filters (that desperately needed to be replaced), he went out to check the main A/C unit that had been buzzing the previous day. After a quick assessment, he let me know that we would need a new dual capacitor and he had one available in his van. He changed them out and the problem was solved for less money than we had expected. It was very nice to get the air conditioner back up and running on a hot day in June and 6 months pregnant. In no time at all the house felt cooler. Steve was friendly and complimented my husband's efforts of turning the unit off the night prior, before more damage could have been done to the unit. I would definitely recommend Excel Heating and Air and I would use them again. read more
