After searching the property, at first light this morning, we found her up a 70 foot oak tree, on a limb 30 feet off the ground, after a night in the 20s, with a chill index in the low teens. She is not used to climbing and was scared to come down. Way too far up for any ladder. We'd need a cherry picker. Neighbors recommended Aaron's Tree Service, down the road. I'd seen his equipment drive by, but never met him. We called him at 8am on a Sunday. He said he'd be right down. He brought his cherry picker, set up and climbed in. He gently coaxed our very shy cat off the limb and into his arms and brought her down. When I asked what we owed him, he said, "this is just what neighbors do for each other"! So, if you need tree service, this is your guy. And no matter the size trees you have. That cherry picker of his? It can go up 65 feet if need be!

We wanted to get the tree removed - after one quote for close to $3000, we called Vernon Akin at Myson's Tree. His quote for the same removal was $850, and within a week his crew was hard at work removing the troublesome tree. They chipped everything they could, hauled off the big logs as well as the final 10 foot tall post, and cleaned up the yard after they were done. They use a cherry picker and a hydraulic arm to remove everything, so there was no digging up the backyard with a Bobcat or heavy lifting - they even worked around phone and cable lines surrounding the tree. There are a few more trees we need removed, including one with an active beehive in it - once the bees are relocated, we'll be calling Vernon Akin again for those removals as well.

Jeff and Jet at Crown Tree received the cumulative highest score. Others scored high too but were much higher priced. Others made it clear we were just a job. The range of price was significant and that astounded us. We highly recommend getting multiple quotes and look for the things mentioned above. Our Bradford Pears are 40 years old and trimming and shaping makes them beautiful trees but they require repetitive grooming every 2-3 years. These guys will get first dibs next time and the right price will get them the job (again). They know that! We may not have to get other quotes.
