Can I move in? This place is better than college! We spent 4 days visiting my grandmother here and were extremely impressed. The amazing staff seems to really WANT to be working there, and it shows - they know residents by name and remember their preferences; they're also very friendly, offering hugs and physical contact as desired, which my grandma commented is much appreciated, as it's something commonly lost in old age. I was also impressed by the large, prominantly-posted sign listing the Residents' Bill of Rights, detailing the kind of treatment residents can and should expect (and what to do if they ever feel those rights are being violated).
The food in the dining hall was good, with a wide range of daily options and outstanding desserts (both regular and sugar-free), which my grandmother blames for her putting on 10 pounds. She's now switched to watermelon for dessert, so being a good grandson, I had to eat the apple pie, carrot cake, and chocolate sundaes FOR her. It's a rough life...
The facility offers a full spectrum of care, from independent cottages up through skilled nursing. A shuttle runs to popular stores and town locations 4 days a week, and a dizzying array of activities are offered every single day, including their own movie theater and Wii sports! They even have a large library with an Internet terminal. The grounds, buildings, and rooms are all beautiful and well-maintained.
All that is great, but the single most important and telling thing about it is this: My grandmother is comfortable and happy there. What else really matters? read more
