I wouldn't go here if I was dying of cardiac arrest. Took me 5 and a half hours of just sitting on a bed before just being discharged with a diagnosis and the reason for visit being totally wrong. I came in because urgent care said I needed to come in because my meds were taken incorrectly. Told all of the er staff that. And they put it down as mental health stuff and brought in a psychiatrist. Never checked in one by anyone. My vitals were terrible, yet they still discharged me. Long wait, but like everywhere, they are a bit short staffed. The good: great doctor!!! When we finally got to see him, he was courteous, concerned, and capable. My husband was in severe back pain, and the doctor scheduled an MRI and a CT scan. The not so good: I had to get my husband into a wheelchair and the ER entrance room has STAIRS!! Ridiculous for people with ambulatory issues. Also, they wrote a referral to a back specialist, but the back specialist still hasn't received the referral and can't schedule an appointment without it. Very frustrating. I called to try to negotiate the bill down because of how silly that is and they were VERY aggressive about it getting paid asap. Unless you or your loved ones arm is falling off, go to urgent care because they will make your life hell to get their money. Seriously. Would it kill this industry to act like humans? Look at what ACTUALLY happened and question why you need to charge that much? They literally did NOTHING. We sat in a triage room. That is it. Was sent to the ER by my dr. Was taken back within an hour, which is really fast compared to Swedish Mill Creek or Overlake. The nurses were all so kind and helpful and talented. I appreciate the care they gave me. Everyone kept apologizing for how long it took, but there were clearly others who needed more immediate care than me, so of course it wasn't a problem. I left with my issues being temporarily resolved and a referral being sent to a specialist. read more

In 2020, I was dealing with extreme pain that seemed to come out of nowhere. I was vomiting for weeks, couldn't keep water down, had extreme pain from my menstrual cycles, etc. I was trying to find a diagnosis to relieve me. I went to the Monroe emergency department one day to try and find relief from my symptoms, that felt like they were killing me from the inside out. I was met with Dr Ram P. Sharma, who told me I was not experiencing any pain. I sat there crying and moaning for hours, only to be met with completely unempathetic ears and an extremely rude attitude. Dr Ram told me, verbatim, " I see the way you look, I see how skinny you are, I see the pick marks on your face. I know exactly why you're here." That doctor and that instance has caused me more medical trauma than anyone will ever understand. The pick marks on my face, were from cystic acne, from the disorder I was FINALLY diagnosed with, with no help from your facility. In fact the only help Dr Ram did give me, was the advice of, when asked where I could get an MRI, "I don't know, you're an adult you can figure it out yourself." I was 22 dealing with immense pain having never navigated the healthcare system alone. Fast forward to may 8th, 2024. I have been off my birth control for months due to not being able to get a refill. I came into the emergency department to seek relief from the immense pain I was feeling and the constant vomiting. I was not helped at all. I was put in a bed in the hallway, where the entire floor could hear me dry heaving and throwing up more than hourly. The nurses checked on me a few times, but the doctor refused to give me anything stronger than Tylenol. I went through my notes from my visit that day, and it is full of untruths and exaggerations on Dr Sonja Piber's part. The dr continued to say that I refused imaging, and that I was persistent in receiving narcotics. I only asked for narcotics after every thing they gave me did not work, and I was met with disbelief and treated as though I was drug seeking and attention seeking. I left without receiving Tylenol because I will not pay to get it in a hospital when I know it will not work due to my previous medical history, including ALL of my diagnoses. The doctor lied on the notes, saying that I had not experienced ANY VOMITING while I was there. I was vomiting the entire time! To the point where other nurses would stop by and ask me if I needed another vomit bag. Why did the doctor say I was never vomiting while I was there? I walked IN vomiting. I am extremely disappointed with the way that this emergency room handles young people who are in pain or searching for medical answers. I plan on filing grievances with dr Ram Sharma and with dr Sonja Piber. To know that this is how our young people are being treated is something that more people should be aware of when sending them to your facility. I went to the emergency department in Kirkland and was immediately met with kindness and understanding. The drs were fully prepared to run as many tests as needed and wanted to make sure I was not in pain. That is what doctors should do. At this point I am at a loss of words, I can not say how traumatized this experience has made me and my entire family feel. I had an extremely unpleasant (face to face )interaction today with Dawn Gawthorp, the Patient Financial Service Manager @ Evergreen Health Monroe (her direct PH: 360.794.1449). She stated that I still owe bills for claims that have Already been paid by Florida Blue (and ZERO patient responsibility), and I printed out these claims stating such and tried to show her the paid claims, but she wouldn't even look at them! I explained to her the details of each transaction pertaining to what was paid for by Florida Blue, and what the provider payment was and that I do not owe out of pocket because the difference between the provider and insurance is written off per their agreement to their in-network contract with FL Blue. She told me this was incorrect and they (Evergreen Monroe) still require me to pay the full amount of all 3 bills still (nearly $5500 out of pocket, even though insurance has paid their portion, this was pre-authorized and ZERO patient responsibility STATED on my claims and verified by my insurance)! I'm flabbergasted that she would not even look at the claims from Florida Blue, would not reach out to her contact at Florida Blue (when I requested she do so), and that she vehemently denied that Florida Blue has paid anything on all 3 claims! I feel this provider is being fraudulent and I have reported Dawn Gawthorp & Evergreen Health Monroe to the Better Business Bureau, Wa State Attorney Generals Office, WA ST HCA and Insurance.wa.gov read more

EvergreenHealth Monroe Hospital FAILED TO PROVIDE medically necessary care, accurate diagnosis and treatment, and did not transfer the patient to any of the acute care hospitals in the Puget sound area. This resulted in the patient's progressive physical and mental deterioration over multiple days, until the patient coded requiring intubation, resuscitation and emergency transfer to EvergreenHealth Kirkland Critical Care Unit. While at Monroe, the patient and family told medical and administrative staff their specific concerns and complaints about the lack of appropriate medical care, poor sanitary practices, the patient's increasing physical and mental deterioration, and made multiple requests to be transferred to an acute care hospital that could provide the appropriate care. * When a formal complaint was made to the nursing supervisor, she stated, "If we transfer patients to other hospitals when patients request it because they are unhappy with their care, we would receive penalties, fines and receive a poor rating." Care she promised would occur that same day, was not completed until the following afternoon. * The Patient Advocacy Department did not respond to the family request for assistance and need to file a complaint against the hospital. * A night nurse admitted that they are not an acute care hospital and are not able to provide the care that the patient needs. The patient continued to deteriorate with increasingly abnormal lab results, labored breathing, aspiration of vomit into the lungs, became unresponsive, went into a life threatening abnormal heart rhythm, followed by respiratory failure, and then coded. After a significant delay, the patient was finally accepted by EvergreenHealth Kirkland for emergency transfer to their Critical Care Unit. On arrival at Kirkland, the patient was diagnosed with multiple acute medical issues, including sepsis, aspiration pneumonia, and heart attack (MI) which Monroe failed to diagnose. EvergreenHealth Monroe should not have an Emergency Room and should not receive or admit patients in need of acute or emergency care. They are designed to be only a basic care hospital and do not have the necessary staffing, medical equipment and services, or qualified specialty and acute care physicians needed. read more

I went to the ER last Wednesday evening because I couldn't breathe. They gave me a couple breathing treatments and I began shaking violently and my heart rate was very high. They gave me a sedative but not before I broke a crown from my teeth slamming together. Two days later I returned to the ER, still unable to breathe, and the doctor said it was possibly pneumonia and prescribed two antibiotics. I have been very sick since then and just realized that the doctor prescribed amox/k clav and I am allergic to it. Now I'm sicker than when I first went to the ER. I loved it when Brianna Rice was my primary care but after she left I tried out two other doctors and they were rude, dismissive, and didn't do what I asked or they said they would do. They put in the wrong codes for my insurance and then told me they would fix it, said they called, then said they would call, then ignored my follow up every couple weeks. This spanned the course of 4.5 months going back and forth between my insurance and their office. Then the billing lady called and spoke over me and told me I was wrong. I was there for two hours because another facility pawned me off to them. Their staff was rude, condescending and inattentive to my mother and me during our short visit. Upon receiving their $900 bill 6 months later, I called the phone number listed ON THE BILL multiple times to discuss payment plan options but no one ever answered. I left 5+ voicemails in two weeks but no one ever called me back. They sent me to collections (Merchant's Credit, 425-643-2613) just a few weeks after sending me their first bill and now Merchant's Credit is aggressively hassling me non-stop. The name has been changed to Evergreen Monroe, but make no mistake, the same passive aggressive nurses work here along with doctors that forgot what a Hippocratic Oath means. Definitely not up to the standards of Evergreen Kirkland, where we should have gone. Same antiquated equipment that doesn't even work with Evergreen Kirkland. Their computer network doesn't work with Evergreen Kirkland so they're unable to verify reports, prescriptions, etc. I had a few doctors and nurses tell me it was networked but come to find out they were just patronizing me. Run down rooms and, god firbid you should need an MRI because that'll cost YOU a lot more then just the imaging. They have to take you by - AMBULANCE - across the parking lot to another building entirely. Had four different docs in a twelve hour period and upon getting admitted waited two hours to talk to the doctor - but she decided to go home instead of doing rounds. Very frustrating and unprofessional to say the least. Family was waiting also. This had a major snowball effect because as a result was denied medication. The doctor - the next day - took it upon himself to change doses that our specialist specifically told them to administer. I confirmed with our specialist myself that he told the doctor at the hospital exactly what to prescribe and he did not listen or apparently care. Ridiculous...this place is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Cannot believe Evergreen Kirkland endorses this place. Update: I was reading the other reviews and another patient said they waited days to clean her room....well same experience here. The bathroom was full of discarded linens that were there for a couple days from the previous patient. They never offered to help with a shower - not even a wash cloth. On the last day (day five) someone finally offered some wet wipes. The sheets were changed once in five days only because an advocate asked them to do so. read more

I can tell you with confidence that the doctors are very willing to help. I haven't run across any that are snobby or rude. I have been to Evergreen Health Monroe 4 times over the last 2.5 years. The first time was for a digestive issue and the last 3 times were for severe back pain. All experiences have been pleasant except for my most recent visit. The location is very clean, the staff is friendly, wait times are low, and the doctors and nursing staff truly listen to your issues. The most recent of my visits is the cause for this poor review. This review is SOLELY based on my experience with Dr. Brenda Park. First two visits for my back went extremely well; the doctors took my severe back pain seriously and prescribed me medication in a quick amount of time. They took into consideration my pregnancy and prescribed me medication that is low risk to pregnancy but shouldn't be on it too long because of dependency concerns. The second visit, I requested an MRI for my back because my insurance company was (and still is) taking forever to approve the referral from my Primary Care provider. They had no issue ordering the MRI and sending me home with additional pain medication, same medication as before which helped bring down the pain. This would be a 5 star review if it were not for my most recent visit today. We went in today as I am still experiencing severe back pain (this has been going on for 6 weeks, I've sought treatment for 3 of those weeks because I was trying to tough it out. It got to a point where I couldn't move so my husband suggested the ER). I only slept max 3 hours last night, which is common for me when I do not have pain medication and we just ran out last night. As there have been no refills on the medication prescribed, we went back in hoping to get some help until I could see my PCM on Tuesday. No position is comfortable which makes resting extremely difficult and continues to stress both my back and muscles and often times my arms and legs fall asleep because child's pose with a pillow under my belly is really the only comfortable sleeping position for me. The MRI showed 2 herniated discs, 1 torn disc, stenosis throughout my lower lumbar, and degeneration in all my discs. The ER doctor today, Brenda Park MD, had access to the imaging and my first ER visit notes. She stated she did not feel comfortable prescribing me ANY pain medication due to my pregnancy. Mind you, my OBGYN and two other ER doctors have had no issues prescribing pain medication for me because if I am in pain, the baby is experiencing high stress levels. My pain stays roughly at a 9-10 daily and gets to a 6-7 with pain medication. Dr. Park had access to my MRI results and my heart rate (160/49 today due to the amount of pain I was in) and touched my back briefly while my husband and I explained the situation. She didn't listen and stated the pharmacy doesn't prescribe medicine to patients (we had done this twice already and received prescriptions to pick up at a local pharmacy so I'm not sure what she meant by that statement). She gave me 1000 MG Tylenol and sent me home within 20 min of me arriving. Mind you, my discharge paperwork states "you can use anti-inflammatory pain medicine for your pain. This could be Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin)." Um, no I can't Dr. Park, I'm pregnant and all NSAIDs are not allowed during pregnancy. ‍‍ I felt completely defeated and my opinion of Evergreen Health Monroe has now gone way down. I will probably never be back. The nurse even apologized on our way out saying she wished there was more they could do because she had seen me the other two times. She said this as I was walking out with tears and using a cane because I cannot stand up straight. Lastly, in our discharge paperwork, it states "call your doctor or go to the nearest Emergency Department if your pain does not improve in 4 weeks or your pain is bad enough to seriously limit your normal activities. YOU SHOULD SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY, EITHER HERE OR AT THE NEAREST ED, IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING OCCURS: - you think pain is coming from somewhere other than your back, to include chest pains this is sometimes from angina (heart pains) or other dangerous causes - you have shortness of breath, sweating, pain chest (or pressure, heaviness, indigestion, etc). - you have abdominal pain (belly) that goes through to your back. - your arms and legs tingle or get numb (lose feeling) - Your arms or legs are weak - You lose control of your bladder or bowels - you have problems urinating - you have a fever - your pain gets worse - your symptoms get worse or you have new symptoms or concerns ." I have 5 of those descriptions yet was not taken seriously today. I am GREATLY disappointed by Dr. Park. I hope she takes other patients' concerns more seriously than she did mine. I would recommend Evergreen Health as a location for anyone who needs emergent care but be advised, if Dr. Park is the presiding MD, do not expect her to take your concerns, pain, or facts of your situation seriously. read more

I made an appt for 3pm and my vitals were taken at 3:15 and it's now been 1 1/2 hours just sitting here without a person checking on me. a very disappointing visit; I have had a fever to varying degrees for 4 days, I am over 65 with a history of colon cancer as well as 55 years with seizures. I am scared since I had Delta Covid 9 months ago. I've been vaccinated and boosted and got the flu shot. I am very sick and can't just sit here for another hour. I'd rather at least be home bed. Evergreen...don't advertise as Urgent Care when you don't have the necessary staff to take care of urgent problems. And you could at least check in w me. read more

The emergency room team of doctors and nurses are caring and professional: a unique combination, yet necessary in the healthcare profession. Late night with my elderly parent. After placing our mom for a temporary stay at Brookdale Retirement Center, arrived to escort my mother home to Hawaii. What I discovered at this private pay high-end community was that they do not administer oversight for their customers care or health! Mom had severe edema: absorption of water in her legs, fluids that could have easily over taxed her heart, lungs and other functions. I accessed her health and called 911 and the ambulance arrived promptly. They were an amazing group of professionals. Dr. Einstein (yes, that's his name) reassured us that we did the right thing! Cortina, a lovely nurse recalls my mother from a conversation about Hawaii and reassured mom that she could now get a good nights rest. They were here to help! My Minds at ease. This is not the old 1970's version of what was then known jokingly as 'death valley general'. This is the new and improved, exceptional Monroe Valley General Hospital. Check it out! I was overbilled last year. I had met my out of pocket cost for the year. Then I received a statement from the insurance company that showed a balance would be due. I contacted them and talked about it. Evergreen Health had rebilled them at a lower rate and therefore they went back and said at the time of the bill I had not met the out of pocket cost yet and it had been readjusted.They told me that Evergreen Health Monroe had over billed them and that they (Evergreen Health) owed me money because I had overpaid also. Evergreen Health never informed me that there had been a mistake. When I called the finance department to discuss it with them the lady I talked to was really rude and told me they did not owe me money. To this day I still am owed money. I have not gotten a straight answer from them as to weather or not the two bills they were suppose to credit were taken care of or not and the rest of the credit has never been applied to any of my bills. read more

Go anywhere else if it's not life or death. ASTRONOMICAL PRICES! $2700 for 4 staples and 1 hour service. My son had a small laceration, about 1-inch on the top of his head, deep enough for stitches. We went to Evergreen Hospital Monroe in June when this happened. It was slow, so we were quickly admitted. The doctor said they don't do stitches on the head, just staples. We were in and out in about 1 hour. I was pleasantly surprised and said, well there goes $1000, but at least it was fast. We were going to be out of town in 2 weeks, so we had to remove the staples ourselves 2 weeks later. Service was good, but not $2700 good. Bill comes.... $1000 which is what I expected. Expensive, but somewhat expected due to the emergency room. Turns out this is ONLY for the doctor. $1000 for 1 hour in a shared environment? Shortly after we get a separate bill for $1600 for the hospital charge. We did not stay overnight or take any medication there. This was a shared room with several other beds FOR 1 HOUR! We called and requested a reduction, or a cash payment discount. Many hospitals offer a cash discount. We were required to submit a written claim protest, which we had to mail after the fax didn't go through. The request was denied as "the charge was reasonable compared to other providers" which is not true. If we had gone to a primary care provider it likely would have been 20% of the cost. If you have ANY ELECTIVE SURGERY I would recommend going elsewhere and get a price estimate upfront. I will make sure to drive to another hospital in the future and AVOID EVERGREEN MONROE. read more

I will start by clarifying that the delivery experience at the Kirkland location (where you have to deliver even if you're seen at the Monroe location your whole pregnancy) was great! The process, nurses and Dr. Hyde (who was not my regular OB) were all supportive and very helpful. However, the road to get to the delivery was not as pleasant. I chose Monroe for my OB care because of the location, yet I ended up having to go to Kirkland for half my appointments because of scheduling or because Monroe didn't have the services I needed (ultrasounds and gestational diabetes care). That was very frustrating because none of that was clarified when I started my care at Monroe. I received misinformation regarding instructions more than a few times from staff at Monroe. I'll spare the details but that's also very confusing when one person tells you to schedule your lab, you go there or wait on hold just to be told you don't need to schedule and it's walk-in only....things like that. More than a few times, I waited on hold for over 10 minutes just to schedule a routine visit. I saw all 3 doctors during my pregnancy; they were mediocre. They were polite and answered my questions but didn't seem to give them much thought and a couple times I felt rushed like they didn't want to answer more questions. I scheduled my postpartum visit with my regular doctor (who works at both locations). Luckily, I called to verify the location before leaving because they scheduled me at Kirkland and never told me. Since Monroe was my primary location and location I was scheduled at for the last 6 visits, I assumed they'd schedule me there. I never had to clarify the location before. I would leave this feedback directly with the hospital rather than publicly but the survey they emailed takes you to a page that says the survey is closed. For the few that this may be relevant to, I'd warn anyone diagnosed with gestational diabetes that this hospital seems to diagnose this generously in order to generate more revenue. They admitted their threshold for diabetes was more "strict" than other hospitals. IE: at another hospital I would not be considered diabetic! You will be basically forced to have weekly appointments in Kirkland where a dietitian reviews your blood sugar results and talks about what you're eating. Let me clarify that we visited the EvergreenHealth Urgent Care on Dec 3rd 2022. Keep in mind I work for EvergreenHealth at the main campus in Kirkland as a CNA. My kids have been since November 18th! The doctor came in. Says you think they have the flu?... listens to heart/lungs/ looks at throat. No tests were ran. Zero interactions with me. Doesn't ask me questions about how long or when the kids got sick. And sends me away with diagnosis of flu symptoms and to keep giving them mucinex! UPDATE: took one of my kids back to urgent care in Woodinville on Dec 7th. The doctor swabbed and ruled out Covid/flu/RSV. The kid has a double ear infection and possible pneumonia and possible pink eye. Gave me RX amoxicillin and eye drops just in case his eyes get worse. Definitely reporting the doctor to the medical board. Inadequate patient examination especially since we waited for 2hrs just to see the doctor. read more

Another Yelper said something to the effect that the term "hospital" shouldn't be used for Valley, and I agree completely. My grandmother is 76. She has horrific bladder infections and has been hospitalized there twice (via ER in the past six months) Every time I call, they are incredibly rude, they can't find her in their databases and they tell me she isn't there, when I know she is there. I have to call my elderly grandfather and get the room number and I really worry that if they can't even find a name in a database every single time I call, how are they able to say, interpret medical directions from MDs and give medications? I used to be a tech at Virginia Mason- a busy hospital with a much heavier admit load, and I'm disgusted by the incompetency of the staff here. Not only are they unable to use their own patient database to locate admits, they are appallingly rude. When a family member is critically ill, the last thing you need is some asshole spending 1 minute looking for your information, telling you that your loved one isn't there, and reading People the rest of the time. I am so infuriated right now- looking for admin emails to send formal complaints. Please, don't go here unless you enjoy paying for service which is akin to McDonald's Drive Through. read more

Alright, so writing a review for a hospital seems a little twisted. I happen to end up in hospitals in more than a few US states & countries. Whether just ending up/waking up in a hospital from random traumas, taking people to hospitals for immediate ICU, ER, etc, I was FLOORED when freshly blowing out my entire knee. I got FIRST-RATE SERVICE all around! You'd figure a hospital in Monroe might be as bad as some of the remote or foreign ones, BUT, it was indeed better than ALL... After MANY ER's & ICU's for either myself or friends, this was a FIRST where I got INSTANT treatment, I WENT STRAIGHT INTO ER, NO FIDDLING ABOUT. They hit me up with several+ shots of DILAUDID to boot! SUPER!!! The doctor was incredible, the nurses, X-Ray techs, etc....This is a fine example of what you just might get for service when LEAST EXPECTED. I am stoked i didn't end up at one of many other hospitals in the region. I have not got the bill yet, but they totally kicked ass for me! BOTTOM-LINE, next time someone is in need of immediate trauma-care and you are within 30 miles or so of Monroe and NOT just over the Pass, go here! read more

*broken collar bone snowboarding at Stevens Pass -1st the ER - got me in fast, realized my pain level and took care of it, quick and accurate diagnosis, prescription for pain, got me out fast, and sent me to a very quality Orthopedic Clinic (Evergreen, on the same property) -2nd Surgery Unit - Orthopedic doctor was on-time for surgery schedule, very competent and prompt staff from check-in to check-out, successful surgery, very good at contacting family as soon as surgery was finished, very friendly and competent post-op care. This hospital is smaller, but I liked that. It seemed that I got more attention and wasn't just a number like in Seattle or Bellevue. Also, it was where one of the best sports-injury Orthopedic Surgeons in the area practices. Dr. Swenson and his staff were great in dealing with my collar bone break...I'm less than one week out of surgery and already moving my arm and out of a sling. If you ever break your collar bone see Swenson in Monroe WA. He's going to have me snowboarding less than a month after breaking it!!! read more

My husband went in for left Knee replacement this week. Dr Swenson is the best! The entire hospital staff Admitting, Surgical Staff, CNA'a, Nurses, Physical Therapy all treated him like a king! He had a right knee replacement in 2017 at a larger area hospital and there was no comparison. His surgery was only two days ago and already he is recovering 100% better because of the care at Evergreen Health! Bigger does not mean better. We highly recommend Evergreen Health in Monroe! read more

Came in by ambulance after fainting in a store with lower chest and abdominal pain, and dangerously raised blood pressure. Every test possible was performed in the ER and results suggested a mild heart attack, so, sadly, I spent Christmas in the CCU. The travelling nurses were the most competent but because of the holidays, I was stuck in CCU for 3 days waiting for more tests. There were some inconsistencies in the approaches of the doctors on call, however, I felt each was very concerned for my well-being. I was released with no heart damage visible yet returned to the ER one day after being released with another spike in blood pressure. While I received good care again, I wonder why I wasn't sent home with high blood pressure medication the second time. I was driven home by family, saw my own doctors, and I do not have a heart problem. Evergreen wisely advised me to seek my primary physician's care, who put me on a very low dose of blood pressure medication and I haven't had another incident since. What Evergreen did well was consult with Kirkland's cardiologist, take all the correct precautions for a potential heart attack, perform all tests that would explain my symptoms, and serve good food. The nurses in ER were kind and competent. What Evergreen could have done better was send me home on blood pressure meds the second time (or the first!), train their CCU nurses to behave more like the travelling nurses, and for gosh sake, cheer up that depressing place on a holiday like Christmas with at least one ornament or snowflake! read more

I came here on 2-25-18 at around 8:30PM with a loved one that was ill. I will say the majority of the staff that we encountered were great and super helpful. He really didn't need to wait to be seen and we were only there for a couple hours. I was pleasantly surprised by this being as it was a Sunday night. The facility was clean and there was ample seating in the waiting area. They also have a large amount of padded benches in case you wanted to try to nap while you wait. There was security walking around every so often so I didn't feel unsafe going to my car in the dark. The doctor was very nice, and explained things well. I would refer other friends and family here. It is fantastic having an Evergreen so close to home. We have been patients at the Kirkland hospital for years, it is wonderful that we can get the same great medicine much closer to home. The only thing that I found extremely off putting about the whole experience, was a full figured receptionist named Jessica. She sat at the desk with her head down for the entire 2 hours that I was in the waiting room. She complained multiple times about not feeling good, but decided to stay at work soaking up the time clock instead of going home. She was given the offer to go home several times by her coworkers. She complained about having to go talk to a patient, she complained that she had the hiccups, she pretty much complained about every aspect of her job. At one point in the evening I had come back inside from smoking, she was sitting behind the desk. She exclaimed very loudly, "why does it fucking smell like cigarettes, its fucking disgusting." "Use hand sanitizer or wash your hands, use body spray." Although none of these things were said directly to me, I was the only person sitting in the waiting room. The profanity I found extremely unprofessional and completely uncalled for. Also the lack of compassion that she showed for someone waiting for a sick loved on to be cared for. But as soon as her shift was over she walked out the door as if nothing was wrong and she felt fine. Clearly this is not an employee to be valued, this facility would greatly benefit from the lack of her presence at it. Having worked in the ER myself for several years, I can not even fathom speaking or acting in such a way. Especially in an area of the hospital where the general public can hear you. People in the waiting room at an ER are often stressed, upset, tired, hungry, and worried about their loved ones. This is not a time or place to make someone feel belittled for their habits, just because you don't agree with them. After all you "work" at the front desk in an ER, I'm positive that I am not the only smoker that has ever come through the doors. In the healthcare field you must have a big heart, even on days that you don't feel amazing. Compassion should always come before your own problems. read more
