Run by the National Trust, Everglades is one of Australia's great gardens. It was designed in the 1930s by Danish architect Paul Sorenson, and consists of 12 1/2 acres of gardens and the modernist-style house.
Entry is $8 for adults, less for concession and kids, and once you pay your fee at the little gatehouse, the place is yours. The gardens are European in style, and as you wander the paths to the grotto (manufactured waterfall!) past the indoor squash court, and towards the garden theatre you half expect a couple of Bright Young Things to pop up and offer a bash at tennis followed by a cocaine binge.
The house is largely empty, but the views from upstairs are amazing, and there's a tearoom open downstairs. You can hire it out for weddings and functions, or just spend the day gliding around the terraces and the bluebell walk. Like walking around a great house in the 30's, but with more comfortable shoes. read more
