What could improve...aside from their reputation? The lame and poorly composed photos of the dogs need vast improvements. There are many tips and tutorials on creating great photos of dogs that are available on the internet. Or, use AI to get some tips. We found our sweet girl Poppy through them, and the entire experience--from our first inquiry to bringing her home--was absolutely outstanding. The staff and volunteers clearly care deeply about every animal that comes through their doors. They took the time to get to know us, listen to what we were looking for, and make sure Poppy was a good fit for our home and lifestyle. They were honest, patient, and extremely knowledgeable, answering all of our questions and offering great advice for a smooth transition. You can tell how much love and effort they put into socializing, caring for, and advocating for each animal. Poppy came home healthy, well cared for, and already showing the benefits of the compassion she received there. The shelter itself is clean and well organized, and the adoption process was clear, fair, and focused on what's best for the animals. Showed up looking to adopt a cat. The person working was very stand-off-ish and abrasive. They were not willing to let us look at any of their available cats without filling out extensive paperwork - not to mention actually meet the cat we were hoping to bring home. After filling out the paperwork, she told us that she could maybe find time later in the day to show us a few of their cats. She also said they did not have any kittens - while we were watching a whole room of kitten yoga going on but apparently none of their kittens will be up for adoption. We have rescued many pets over the years, and I spent 2 years as a volunteer at a different animal shelter and we have never had a shelter so unwilling to part ways with their animals. I respect the fact that they are protecting them, but we will not be coming back to this shelter. read more

This is a review for the Wandering Rover program. After arriving (early!) on one of the approved days to take a shelter dog out for the day, we were told by the intake coordinator that no dogs at the shelter currently qualified for the program and that "they hadn't had any dogs like that in quite some time". This is despite upwards of 3x weekly social media posts begging for volunteers to take dogs out on walks/home with you for the afternoon. I'm not sure where the miscommunication occurred, but it is enormously disrespectful of potential volunteers' time. read more

Long story short my pup had to be put down due to complications from cancer. I confided in my friend about my loss and he said we should go look at dogs at the Everett Animal Shelter. We went there on a Friday and I guess we didn't realize it was an appointment only facility unless there is an open house. My friend urged me to fill out the online form and while waiting there this dog "Fumble" was outside staring and jumping when he saw me. I was taken aback of how similar he looked to my passed doggo. Well I got a call that same day and they scheduled me for a viewing "open house" on Sunday I went in and we bonded immediately. You can't image how grateful I am for this encounter. I'm excited to have a new buddy in my life again. Thank you all staff involved. read more

This is one well run shelter. Extraordinarily clean. The animals are so well cared for. You have to make an appointment to meet potential adoptions--which is great as it reduces the stress on the animals. I know the dogs get walked and fresh air at least twice a day, and excellent medical care. They have a sensory garden for dogs who need a little 'soft space', and a dog behavior specialist to help dogs that need it, to ready them for new homes. If you are looking to ad a bundle of fur baby love to your family, I would highly recommend checking these guys out! read more

I did not enjoy my experience with the staff. All I was doing was bring in a found dog. The staff member was rude, and when she decided to ask me questions, I felt like I was interrogated because I'm visiting this state. I know when my dogs have gone missing, the first thing I'd do is call everywhere and hope someone would turn them in instead of holding them. The facility looks large clean and inviting. When we got to the door we were informed that we needed an appointment to view the pets. The woman who greeted us let us know that we need to make an appointment with the animal that you would like to view/socialize online. Is it just me or is this completely backward? Not only are you denying a homeless animal a loving family, but you are literally forced to select an animal to get to know based on their appearance. And I'll say that again, based on their appearance. Never mind chemistry! I get that they may be low staffed but she could have shown some grace for the sake of the animals, and given that the other appointment was there she could have let us take a look. I would not go back, nor would I support this business. And I will not recommend them going forward. read more

I just wanted to thank EAS for reuniting the pup I brought in. In less than 2 hours after I finally got her, she was back home! They checked her out, found out she didn't have any illnesses, got her reunited with her loving fur parents. I was very concerned about her condition at first, but they were able to check her out and make sure she was well. They were so busy helping so many people and animals, and it was obvious to me by how that little pup was wrapped up and taken inside, how much they care for the animals who come to them. There were misunderstandings at first, but I think that is bound to happen. I am just so grateful that that little one got to go home to her family and not spend another night in the cold (before I found her, she was gone for 19 hours! She wouldnt let anyone near her to help, although a few of us were trying our best! ) I know they have limited time, resources, and people and still they managed to care for her. I know shelters get a bad rap! But they really are knowledgeable about local "bad actors" ie puppy mills and neglectful owners, I learned. They will do everything they can to make sure each animal is given a good home. I do trust them after this experience, although we didnt start out on the best terms, unfortunately. But... I was feeling very protective of the little one i was finally able to coax into my care..EAS has earned this rating in my case. The laws should be changed regarding ownership in my opinion, but that's not on EAS. That's on us to write our Legislators if we think there are holes in the legal code, that allow bad owners to slip through! And luckily for this little well nourished, much loved Frenchie, that is not the case, and she is in good hands. PS: there is a reason, folks, why the fees are high to get your animals back from the shelter. read more

I adopted my dog from this shelter. I drove from Kent to get my doggie! The staff here is kind and helpful. They were able to give me an appointment fair quickly for meet and greet. I adopted Lourde the same day! He had some complications due to neuter but the vet is willing to help out and do a revision. read more

I needed to go to the hospital for care. I was new to the area and knew no one who could watch my companion animal. I called them and they said that there is no dog boarding around here at all. I was caught in a rock and a hard place. I let the animal ordinance officer take my beloved animal on the contingency that he took him to a no kill sanctuary. He agreed and asked me to sign a blank piece of paper. When I got out, I called the Everett animal shelter. They had received my dog but refused to speak to me other then to say I would never see him again. The manager was very rude and wouldn't answer any of my questions. The animal ordinance officer gave me several different stories about what happened to my companion animal. I then realized that they didn't do anything but put my dog down. Hours posted everywhere say they're open until 5pm but we stopped by today at 2:20pm & called to see if we could come in since everything is by appointment, and the woman on the phone told us they were closed. We started to mention how the hours posted say until 5pm but she cut us off and said "yup, ok, bye-bye". She also mentioned how people don't just "come in to see the dogs" when literally that's what you do at a shelter... There was an employee walking out who said hi and nothing else, and then left. I have never stepped foot into the shelter, and here I am leaving a one star review over how horribly I was treated over the phone. Found a stray cat that was clearly very ill and I was trying to get information on how to get her seen, if she had a chip and how I would go about that. I was talked down to, belittled and given no information I had called to ask for. When I asked for the name of the person I was talking to she hung up and I wasnt able to get through, but had my husband called and be got through no problem. I'm confused as to how you could work at an animal clinic and not care about the people who are trying to get simple information, help and care for animals? The employees, specifically Hannah, were aggressive, rude, and unknowledgable of the legal procedures in regard to pet ownership. We went to pick up our long lost furry family member, and instead of this being a joyous and lovely reunion, Hannah harbored OUR stolen pet for days. She refused to allow us to reclaim our cat even though he had been microchiped, hence how they contacted us that he was found. Instead of legally allowing us to reclaim our cat the same day we received notification of his location, Hannah forced us to readopt him. She then threatened not to give us back OUR cat unless we adopted him after we had already signed the paperwork to reclaim him. An experience that should have been joyous and special, turned into a volatile, threatening, and disgusting display of blackmail. read more

If you adopt from this shelter READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY! I was told we would have insurance for 30 days and that "it was all set up and I wouldn't need to do anything until after my thirty days when I could then decide if I wanted to continue service." LIE!! If I didn't "claim" the deal in 24 hours it wasn't eligible! When I called the shelter to figure out what the heck happened I WAS TREATED SO RUDELY!!!! If you treat people like that how the heck are you treating the animals! As far as the animals go don't get me wrong I love my pet that I got from there BUT O MY GOD! So whatever vet they use, RUN! Find out and DON'T EVER GO THERE! So this dog had the spading done but a vet visit for a regular checkup to establish care revealed 2 very infected ears, 2 anal glands that were FULL, and OBVIOUS issues with her woo ha. I can't image how uncomfortable she had been this entire time! If you get a pet from there just get it and head to the vet, get the animal checked out to make sure they are all good because you obviously can't trust their vet or the staff. read more

Went there a month or so ago to start the process of looking for the perfect match to add to my little family. Was told we had to fill out an application for adoption, which is pretty standard, and then we could look at their dogs. When we found one we would like to interact with, the lady who spoke to us was short, rude, and the biggest bitch I had ever met at a shelter. She talked down to us, treated us like scum because she didn't think we could afford the dog. Kept asking us if we knew how much owning a dog cost and how we would pay for very care. We ended up leaving without seeing a single animal, and adopted from PAWS. I strongly suggest going there or to N.O.A.H if you want to adopt. EaS is trash and I feel so bad for the animals in their care. read more

If I could give this place a 0. I would. These people have ZERO respect or compassion for people who have to put their animal down. My dog had become aggressive towards my children in a small time frame... she ended up harming two of them and we had to make the heartbreaking choice to have her Euthanized as she had harmed one of my children badly. Due to it being Thanksgiving we had to call 911 as the shelter and animal controll were closed to wich they advice us to contact Everett Animal Shelter for help in surrending her to them and having her Euthanized.... when I was able to get ahold of them two days as they were closed Thanksgiving and Black Friday, later they were abrasive about the situation and short. I didn't have the exact $150 for it and was distraught about the entire thing..... they did get us in same day that was about the only good thing and letting me pay with what I had... the two staff members that came to take my dog were rude, had zero compassion for the fact we were having to essentially kill a family member. They we're joking while standing off to the side and making comments about other things. My dog had lunged after one of them because she doesnt like stangers either after they had me put a slip leash on her and the woman snapped at me to stop walking towards her when I was trying to get my balance back and pull her back. They made comments to each other that I wouldn't be able to hold the leash at all yet did nothing to assist (i know how to hold a dog and how to use slip leashes as I have worked for a vet before and did tech work. I was in a bad mental state at the fact they were making us do their jobs and my dog was in distress). They also choked my dog the entire time with pulling a slip leash each in opposite directions while dragging her into the building... The amount of disrespect, lack of compassion and the level of rudness that came from these woman was disgusting for the situation that was happening.... again. If you can find anywhere else I would try to go there if you have to.... Everett Animal Shelter is a terrible place and don't give two shits about the situation at hand. read more

There had been a stray cat in the neighborhood for more than a month, poor thing had an injured leg. Managed to use a Havahart trap to get the kitty. I have two cats and can't adopt more so I called PAWS who told me to contact Everett Animal Shelter. I made an appointment yesterday to bring the cat in. This place really rubs me the wrong way. I was at the park across the street and decided to drop by to see the animals and I had to fill out a lengthy adoption form per each animal even though I specified that I didn't want to adopt right this second. I was told which animals I could and couldn't view and was marketed towards one specifically like a used car. I was given conflicting information and monitored like a convict while I was viewing the animals which made me feel uncomfortable. I was told basic instructions even though I've had a pet before. I guess if safety and control is their goal, they're winning, but if they want visitors to actually be able to pet and interact with animals in a relaxing environment to find a compatible fit, then they need to rethink their strategy. read more

I spent a short time volunteering here and had to stop for medical reasons, but saw the inside work they do, and these people are AMAZING. The most caring and heartwarming animal lovers around. They are there day after day even when people come in and treat them like crap because their focus is on the animal. What is BEST for the animal. They know what they are doing and will always do their very best to help, despite what some people try to make you think when they did not get their way, this shelter is AWESOME. These guys do a good job at what they do. I won't get into the politics of animal control; I think there are a bunch of good organizations doing what they can to deal with serious issues. First and foremost, it's a bit of a miracle that I didn't walk out of here with a truckload of adopted new cats today. One of my cats took off last week, and I have been trying to figure out where he might be. All the other shelters and clinics took my info over the phone, but EAS has a recording saying they won't take questions telephonically. You have to come in. I'm hip. They're underfunded. It's cool. It's a bit of a haul to get in there, but I'm happy to do it if it gets my boy home. I live in unincorporated Snohomish County, so I don't have any other choice in terms of where he would have landed if he got picked up, unless he hoofed it a mile to Mountlake Terrace--not likely. They have separate entrances for people with and without animals, and the lobby is divided to keep animals separate. Nice. The place is purpose built. Lots of holding areas and exam areas, clearly built from the ground up with animal care at top of mind. I really appreciate that. I also kinda like, in one big way, that they're far from everything--cheaper real estate. When you're missing a cat, or, presumably, a dog, you check the book on the lobby table and look for familiar faces. You can stroll through the adoption bays, too--they scan your animal for chips when he shows up, but they only hold him for 72 hours after that. If they call you and get no word back, 3 days is all he'll get. That's actually perfectly reasonable, but, since there was a weekend in the way since he took off, I checked to see whether he had been put up for adoption. No dice. That's when I saw all the cats looking for homes. Sparkling clean cages in one area, and, in another area, cats in groups get their own little offices. Lots of cute, healthy, friendly faces staring back at me from behind bars (or on the other side of glass doors). Everybody looked like they were well treated. Everybody looked like they were one cute facial expression away from coming home with me. I hope I never have to darken the door here again, but I trust them, and, if I have a few extra bucks, I will support them. I'm very glad they're there. read more

My work family and I decided to forego giving each other Christmas presents and instead donate food, treats and toys for the shelter. We came on a Friday and were able to see the animals. I was expecting to see them in crates or kennels. Dogs and cats (and bunnies) were in their individual rooms with glass windows and doors. The rooms were clean with bowls of water, blankets and toys. I was very impressed with the staff, volunteers and the facility itself. One of my friends wanted to adopt a dog and found Coco (an 11 month old mix). He was shy and scared, but they bonded as soon as she walked inside the room. It didn't take too long and after completing all the paperwork and fees, she went home with her fur-baby! I commend the staff and volunteers at this shelter. read more

It's absolutely shocking to me that there are bad reviews of this wonderful place! It may seem like a pain to have to fill out an application before meeting an animal but that definitely seems to help in weeding out the people who are not entirely serious. The place is pretty far from what you may expect a shelter to be like. Animals have their own space and access to a great outside area not to mention the warm hearted team who cares for them seemingly very well. I had been on Pet Finder and Adopt-a-Pet rescue sites for months searching for a small companion when I came across Cookie, a 5yr old 10lb shihtzu who pretty much fit the bill almost perfectly. I applied for her but unfortunately someone else got vetted ahead of me and got to her first. About 6 weeks later I received a surprise call from Lark advising she had been returned and asking if I was still interested. Of course, I hightailed it from Auburn to Everett to meet her and she has now become my forever dog! She's definitely had some previous training and is very good about going potty outside. She does have some mild behavioral issues which are likely what brought her back to the shelter but they're nothing Cookie and I cannot handle together with a little help from Cesar Milan videos lol. I'm surprised at all the low ratings to this shelter. I'm actually quite fond of it. My experience here has been good. I occasionally visit this shelter to look at the rabbits and guinea pigs. Around this time of year, people "surrender" their unwanted rabbits or guineas, so they were packed! I offered to help volunteer by fostering a rabbit or two. I've never fostered an animal before, so I was happy when I was given the opportunity by Ms. Hilary Wager. She is a very sweet lady with a good head on her shoulders. She cares about the animals here. Like any shelter where you volunteer, you attend an orientation. Ms. Wagner was very good at remaining in contact with me. Upon my arrival to pick up my foster bunny George, she gave me some information on him and what he needed "worked" on (socializing primarily) and helped bring him to my car. I'm currently fostering George as I type this, and let me say it's been a fun experience. The shelter staff are pretty friendly. I imagine some days are better than others, because it can get pretty hectic at ANY shelter. Ken in particular is nice. He gave me copies of some rabbit info for some potential adopters that took an interest in George. The shelter itself is clean. And of the times I have went, the dog and cat areas weren't packed and they had a decent amount of space. I like volunteering here. If you have the opportunity, consider fostering an animal from this shelter. read more

Three days after I made a small donation to the Everett Animal Shelter my friend's dog escapes and ends up at this shelter. Less than 6 hours from when he received the call (since he has his animal chipped) he is at the shelter and finds out he must pay at least $385 to get his dog back. $200 for finding her and $185 transportation fee. Why on earth would they charge a fee as large as 1/4 of a mortgage to release his animal. They would rather steal someone's family member and re-home it. I understand they must make money but this is just a few months after the nonprofit organization I volunteer at tried to offer a large donation to this shelter. ...The director was too busy to call our organization back. They can charge my friend $400 to get his dog back but they can't return (multiple) phone calls to accept a donation worth over $3000? What kind of unethical organization is this? read more

Likes: NO KILL shelter. (Other reviews here stating they are a KILL shelter are WRONG). Volunteers were very into the health and well-being of the animals, including a large group of formerly horded cats. Likes: needed to fill out paperwork to hang out with an animal. (Without this, it would be a petting zoo). *I donate food, medication, and supplies to the shelter. I am comfortable bringing my young(ish) son. It is not sad. The animals seemed to be in the best situation for being in a shelter situation. *The small animals (rabbits, etc.) had nicer habitats than I would probably be able to provide. *Nothing but loves. Regardless of what they say or their released numbers they are a KILL shelter. I found a stray dog with no chip or ID on saturday night in snohomish near mill creek. My friends and I kept him overnight with our three other dogs. I slept with him all night with one other dog. We dropped him off at what we thought was a no kill shelter the next day. I called several days later when he disappeared from the lost and found page tonask if his owner had picked him up. I then emailed too They took several days to call back only to tell me they had euthanized him for dog aggression. The lady did not sound sad but even kind of smug. Please don't ever drop off an animal there. Don't ever support them. That dog spent all night with our dogs and never tried to bite or attack any of them. I just handed off that poor dog to those uncaring and horrible people and I'm so sorry to him for that. Don't ever drop off any animal there. Yes, adopt the pets they already have there out, but don't ever ever ever let them get their hands on another animal. They use NoKill as marketing to get donations and support. We should all go to the county officials and demand this place be reformed. read more
