(My cousins used one to go to the same destination.) But none had some of the things we wanted, and I needed a few accommodations. I found three firms online that specialized in this area and that drew my interest. I emailed asking for quotes. Two called and I spoke to the agents, outlining my requests. The Aspire agent responded to a query from my husband on Zicasso. And I let her know (via email and then on the phone) what we needed. She listened to me and provided a quote with items and times that I had requested at a reasonable price. So she was our top pick, and we began to work together to cull the best items for the trip. We never paid a fee until we were ready to book the tour. I worked with Sharon T. And she was amazing. We got the cities we wanted, in the order we wanted, and with a few special accommodations. (For example: With a recent knee surgery, I couldn't climb the 300 steps at the Sydney Opera House, so she booked us an accessible tour. I sometimes have tummy trouble early in the mornings, so mostly I wanted tours that started at 10 am or later. I did have to give in to early times in a few instances, because they were not avoidable. I even had a specific order to the cities we visited, because I wanted to end the trip in Auckland, New Zealand, where we planned to meet with a friend we hadn't seen in more than 30 years.) Suffice it to say that Sharon and I exchanged tons [hundreds? :-)] of emails from May through the end of the trip in October. I even emailed her at least three or four times while on the 19-day trip, and I always got an immediate response (if the timing was right with the 15-17 hour difference). As a former assistant travel editor for a major daily newspaper, I may be more particular than most people and harder to please. Aspire (Sharon) was patient, detailed, and offered stellar service. P.S. The VAMOOS app was incredible. It provided every detail at our fingertips for the entire trip, along with reminders.

I booked not 1, but 2 trips with Travendly at the beginning of the year before COVID took the world by storm. I was SO looking forward to my travels and meeting new people. Unfortunately, my first trip got cancelled due to the virus but I learned a few things about this company during these trying times, so I'd like to shine a spotlight on them. 1. Their itineraries are EXTREMELY organized, and all of the details of your trip are made available to you in an app. There's also a WhatsApp group where you can communicate with other solo travelers who will be joining you. 2. The coordinator was extremely helpful in consolidating all of my info - arrival and departure flights, travel insurance, other forms. I also found her to be very responsive to emails which was very reassuring. 3. You get to virtually "meet" the group you are traveling with beforehand so that when you do meet up, it's like seeing an old friend vs. meeting someone for the first time. Even though my trip was cancelled, I was able to make a friend to travel with in the future. A little silver lining to these uncertain times. 4. Travel credits with the company are valid for a long time and transferrable to any of their trips, so I don't feel like my $ is lost. I also don't feel locked in to 2020 which is still basically up in the air. So no, I have not yet traveled with the company just yet, but I will in the future, and I'd like to give them a solid shoutout for being awesome during this whole thing. We were very happy with the Norwegian Gem as our first cruise experience. I'm going to see if it's possible to review the restaurants that were onboard individually so I won't get into food much with this review. I will say some of the bread looked dissapointing which was easy for me to stay away from most of the bread carbs. The meat and veggies were good. The drinks were also very good, we averaged around 2 to 4 drinks a day on the cruise. They called the dining freestyle but I didn't consider it so much freestyle because there were time limits for breakfast, lunch and dinner services. I understand this was probably done to prepare for the next meal and they did have one complimentary restaurant on board where you could get food 24 hours if the other complimentary places were closed but it would have been nice to have an option of getting eggs at 12 PM if you decided to sleep in and wake up late. A cruise is pretty convenient travel when you have a two year old so for parents of small children I would recommend it as the best way to travel so far with a small child. Your luggage is dropped off curbside as well as delivered curbside when it's time to return home. So if you've got to bring a ton of bags because you have a kid and you also pack a lot in general it's great for no luggage limits. Also depending on where you're sailing from getting there with a kid isn't too bad. For us since we live on Long Island the gem was leaving from Manhattan we just had an hour to hour and a half car ride max to get to the piers. The coffee on board was okay. It was good in the complimentary restaurants and they had decent cappuccinos on deck 7 at the bar/cafe. The coffee in the garden cafe wasn't so great but I found the trick of putting whipped cream in it during breakfast to make it go down okay. I found them to be sort of limiting with water because I think they wanted you to buy the plastic bottles they were trying to sell. They had water to get from the bar on deck 12 and they served you water at the restaurants and in the garden cafe but I wish they had it in more convenient locations. Hubby and I were not buying the water bottles. We would refill the one water bottle I bought on board with me before going to our room at night and if we ran out of that we braved drinking the tap water from our bathroom sink. I didn't really feel hydrated enough during most of the cruise though so I definitely would have liked to see more water options available. The staff was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating to us as much as they could be. Even though we had our toddler in some of the restaurants and it was kind of clear we should be in the garden cafe only with our kid none of the staff gave us a hard time about it. I do wish when we were eating in the restaurants our food was served sooner. Many people on board without small children had fun making "dining" something to do but I'm just thinking please bring me my food before my toddler looses his shit and won't stay still so I can scarf it down. My hubby got to enjoy his meals, when mine did come out I shoved everything down in 5 minutes or less. Motherhood. We made three stops Port Canaveral, Fl, Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas and Nassau, Bahamas. They handled the stops and detours pretty well and were organized. Our room was well taken care of, they do try their best to take great care of you on a cruise. I missed enjoying different things because my toddler wouldn't let me go but I'm hoping to be on a cruise when he's older so I can do some of the things I missed like playing the slots for a little while and maybe getting some spa time and a seminar in. I loved cruising on the gem I think if we are going to cruise again like we hope it's going to be NCL all the way!
