Our sweet rescue had plenty of love and energy to give but zero discipline. This was a struggle with two small kids in the house. He stayed with Even Keel to do 3 weeks of e collar training/boarding. He came back a different animal. He is the same sweet lovely boy, but so good and in check. Even the neighbors have noticed! I think he is a lot happier knowing how to best please his pack. It also gave us peace of mind to get lots of pictures and status updates while he was boarding. He clearly got plenty of love and attention during his stay!

Our pups have been doing private training with Sofia for a few months and we feel confident that we have the tools to train them into amazing well behaved dogs! Our girls just completed a one week boarding with Sofia and it went fantastic! We got a few updates with pictures throughout our week. We would highly recommend using Even Keel for boarding/training. Sofia is a great trainer that will listen to all your concerns and help you work out a plan to get great dogs, as long as you put in the work! We've seen a lot of progress with our girls and can't wait to keep up the training for them in the future!

Sofia was a blessing for my dog Momo and me. There's so much we aren't told about adopting a dog and the mixed back of challenges that come with it. My dog struggles with pretty severe separation anxiety. I didn't realize this until we moved and I had to leave her alone for longer periods of time. It was incredibly stressful to come home and see that she had destroyed things and that we were receiving notes from neighbors about her being distributive. Cue Sofia! We reached out to her for a mixture of boarding and personal dog training sessions. We learned so much about how to be a leader for our dog and give her some structure that her anxious little brain needed. Part of this learning experience was learning that this will always be part of who she is and it is up to us to continue to train her and develop her confidence in herself and us. We are now able to leave her alone and while she doesn't love her kennel, she tolerates it and it keeps her calm enough while we're away. Her recall is terrific after a few short weeks with Sofia and she is overall much better than she was when we first engaged with Sofia. Sofia is there to help you, not sugar coat things. She is great at what she does and will not only train your dog, but most importantly will teach YOU how to help your dog be successful in their behavioral challenges.

Sofia is a gem and I am thrilled that we found her! I can't recommend her enough. We hired her after feeling very frustrated with our very nervous, fearful and highly reactive terrier dog, Scout. Sofia is truly the ultimate dog whisperer with her firm but also loving ways towards the dogs. She just knows how to strike the perfect balance to get the dogs to trust her and feel confident. Once Scout realized Sofia was there to advocate and lead him, he felt confident enough to walk on leash in very busy areas without barking or lunging. He enjoyed his training sessions and I enjoyed reading all the updates she would send twice a week. Sofia is very good at teaching the owners exactly how to handle and care for their dog. She gave me the tools and ability to also do what she did to make Scout feel more confident and less fearful on his walks. Scout is a work in progress and just went back to Sofia for a refresher board and train. I love her honesty and patience to get me and Scout back on track so we can ultimately live a more happier and stress free life together! We will continue to use Sofia for refresher training sessions as well as boarding.

He used to not be able to walk in a straight line and pull. Now I can take pics of him on his walks vs being on constant high alert.

This is by far the easiest 5 Stars I've ever given! Sofia is an amazing trainer. She is dedicated, communicative, and good at what she's doing. It's clear she cares about our dogs and is passionate to help them become the best version of themselves. I adopted my pup at 11 months old from someone who did not train him AT ALL. It was not an easy start. I worked with several trainers and none were fully able to help me with my pup. However, Sofia really connected with my dog and he came back ten times better. He used to be extremely reactive towards dogs. I am not exaggerating when I say he would scream for 10 minutes after seeing a dog. My main goal for him was to become neutral, now I can say he truly is. I went on a walk to Lake Merrit a couple days ago and there was an off leash dog with its owner no where to be found and my dog did not bat an eye. Of course, he was confused, but he was not jumpy or loud. If it weren't for Even Keel Canine I would still be struggling. I feel so grateful for Sofia and glad I worked with her as she helped me feel more confident as well. I promise that if you book with her, you won't be disappointed and you and your dog will have so much more freedom and fun!

"Balanced" dog training includes tons of treats, lots of play, and the safety needed to make sure no one gets hurt. We weren't sure what to expect from training with Kathy, but it's been a wonderful balance of true fun, silliness, joy, and clear and firm boundaries. We're so grateful to have her in our lives.

We had already tried multiple trainers, different techniques, and even followed our vet's suggestion to try antidepressants--but nothing was helping (in fact, the medication only made things worse). The moment I spoke to Kathy on the phone, I felt confident she truly understood the problem and could guide us in the right direction. And she absolutely has. Over the past year, Checkers has made tremendous progress thanks to Kathy's knowledge, patience, and the clear guidance she gave us. We followed her suggestions carefully--even switching vets based on her recommendation--and the results have been life-changing. Earlier this year, we had to travel out of the country and trusted Kathy to board Checkers. During that time, he developed a beautiful bond with her partner Dan. This was nothing short of amazing, as Checkers has always been fearful of men. Watching their relationship grow has been such a gift. With Kathy's help (and the influence of her own two balanced dogs), Checkers has learned how to be a dog--something I once thought might never happen. He now participates in pack walks and can even run off-leash in the fields, something I couldn't have imagined a year ago. If you're struggling with your dog's behavior and feel like nothing is working, do yourself and your dog a favor and call Kathy. She and Dan have changed our lives, and I am endlessly grateful for the care and dedication they've shown to Checkers and to us.

Shame on you Wag Hotel!…read more I scheduled boarding for my dog Hans at your facility back on 1/28 in preparation for a trip to Japan on May 3 - 8, which you accepted on 1/31. However, when we arrived at your facility on May 2nd, the day before my flight to Japan, your front desk staff informed me that Hans' 5/2 - 5/8 boarding was being denied due to him having a heart murmur condition. Even though I've been a loyal customer to you for over 10 years; and that Hans' heart murmur condition had already been noted in your system since 2024; and given that my flight to Japan was less than 24 hours away; and given the fact that your facility waited until I was at the checkin desk in order to inform me of Hans' boarding denial; I was still told that there was nothing that your facility could do and that it was simply following company policy. Luckily for me, I demanded to speak with a manager who then took it upon himself to assist me in finding another facility that would board Hans at the very last minute. So kudos to that manager. However, you should know that he had to make several calls going down your "other recommended facilities" list in order to find a facility that was willing to board Hans on such short notice even with him having a preexisting heart murmur condition. So again, kudos to that manager. So unfortunately, this is how our relationship ends after I've been a loyal customer to you for over 10 years. Policy aside, not only should I have been notified far in advance to my May 2nd boarding schedule, but that I should have also been given an accommodation due to the last minute nature of your notification. It was simply amazing to me to hear both your Manager, and your front desk staff all admit that a notification error had, in fact, been made by your boarding authorization unit, but due to company policy there was nothing that could be done and that Hans would simply have to boarded elsewhere. Obviously, both my years of customer loyalty and the fact that your authorization unit had made a horrendous mistake, made absolutely no difference whatsoever in my situation. So goodbye, and again shame on you Wag Hotel!

We then heard that they use punitive measures when training the dogs so in less than 24 hours we canceled. They take half the money as a deposit, which in this case was nearly $2500. We asked for a refund and they said no. They said it's in the contract, which it is, but they do not make it obvious, and certainly nobody told us that verbally. You really have to read that thing. Before training, we struggled with leash pulling, barking, lunging at other dogs, and nonstop chaos whenever someone came through the door. We were honestly at our wits' end. Everything changed after I saw Bryan in Jackson Square walking a calm, perfectly behaved pack of dogs. We started weekly family lessons in January 2026 with our dogs and our two 12-year-old daughters, and progress began almost immediately. Bryan quickly helped us realize the humans needed training too. With consistent coaching, support, and a board-and-train program, the transformation has been incredible. Our dogs are now well-behaved both at home and in public. We can comfortably walk them, take them to parks and outdoor restaurants, and genuinely enjoy being with them. Friends and family who knew our dogs before cannot believe the difference in their behavior. Thank you, Bryan. You really can teach old dogs new tricks.

Bit of background: Maggie has done 12 weekly group training sessions with another trainer and is generally well-behaved. However, she doesn't read the social signals from other dogs well (ex: when they want to be left alone), tends to jump on everyone at all times, doesn't respond to commands unless there's a treat involved, and lacks confidence. What I enjoyed about the program is that it includes several in person training sessions during the B&T. We got to see Maggie's progress as time went on and most importantly, we were trained on their behavior psychology and how to become the leaders of our pack. I will say I was nervous about implenting the ecollar but Bryan has demonstrated that it is a safe and effective training tool-- I got to see it used as a tool for correction that Maggie actually responded well to. Maggie is coming home tomorrow and hand-off includes an in-home training sessions to ensure her progress doesn't regress which I appreciate. From what I've seen, Maggie has become more confident, responds to recalls in distracting places (no treats involved), learned to self-soothe, and plays/greets other dogs/people with manners. Truly the best investment I've made in my dog and I'd highly recommend Mutt and Tumble to all dog parents!
