Tales from the Hood Run from this crypt of an alleged…read morefuneral home that resembles "Tales from the Hood" HBO series . Giving this review is feel physically sickened just thinking about how dirty and creepy interior chapel is that housed my brother. Everything chair, pillar and kneeling bench was dusty, dirty or cracked. I did not have any input on the selection of this home, as my brother's immediate family resides in New Jersey and we traveled from Atlanta, California and South Carolina. Con's: there are zero positives. The staff onsite was minuscule, poorly dressed and lacked professional as they are rule and simply ignorant - lacking empathy. My brother's makeup appeared cheap and lacked lively blending and texture. It appeared one color was just smeared over his entire face, including lips. The final facial appearance looked like he had been accident, but he died of natural causes - without a fall or injury. Bruises from the IV were very visible below is suit arms. I requested correction during the viewing but he was unchanged at the funeral. The building ceiling has leaked stained dated tiles . At the procession the drivers were worst than a taxi driver - they did. It escort or open the door for us. They left the doors open for you to seat yourself. The vehicles were dirty and had been either keyed or wrecked . The chapel was dirty and the staff allowed the next family to enter the chapel during our funeral, as it ran over time . I could say much more but I can barely thinking about the lack of service, cleanliness and unprofessionalism. The burial service was just poor, lacked feeling and pathetic. I wish I had something good to say, but this book cover is as ugly and worse inside . Lastly, I pray my brother body was not disrespect during his stay? The funeral was held Friday, 20 June 2025.

NOTE: I AM ONLY GIVING ONE STAR BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T ALLOW ZERO STARS…read more Reasons for using them: -This is their family's usual funeral home. -The prices are reasonable if you have no insurance. Reasons I will NEVER USE CHURCHMAN'S AGAIN!: -I sign a release on Monday, she's not picked up until Thursday and ONLY AFTER they call the city to find out what already I told them on Monday and I finally INSIST she be picked up! -No phone calls. No NOT ONE regarding anything. -I had to call to make an appt. three days after they said they'd call me. -I called to get her size (no answer), -i called so someone can open the door to get her clothes (I get a live answering service) only to find out they were too small because (refer to the prior sentence!) -I had call to view because NO ONE called by Sunday to say she was dressed for a Monday service! -No one called to finalize ANYTHING! I didn't even know if we were set for service until we got there Monday and guess what...we were NOT! -Nothing I asked to be changed or straighten was done. Fixing things with people walking in!!!! -The end of service was just the end! They didn't even know how to usher people for the final viewing! Ppl decided to line up on their own! -I finally get my first independent phone call from them yesterday asking for their money. I had the money Sunday AND Monday had anyone bothered to finalize things with me. -Today, I go to retrieve my wife and pay the bill this is what I get, "Oh, sorry, we thought she was here but uhm yeah. We're going to pick her up today, come back tomorrow." What!!!!!!! -Not to mention, no one EVER knew/knows who I am or why I'm calling even though we've had discussions about times, dates, and places. This is NOT how you treat a grieving family. The ushers were dressed sloppy with their hair unkempt and baggy clothes that were not neat at all. DID I FORGET TO MENTION THE CRAPPY SOUND SYSTEM that consists of an old Walmart portable radio/cd player hooked to two crappy speakers???? I may be wrong but I should be treated no different because I had no ins policy ESPECIALLY when I am walking into this building with Thousands of Dollars cash. Ughhh....I will sell my blood for Whigham's before I EVER go back to a place that makes me feel like a lower-class citizen because I am paying out of pocket!!!!! and this answers the question of WHY THEY HAVE NO BUSINESS in the heart of Newark! I knew something was wrong when I pulled up with locked doors, empty parking lots, and no viewings displayed. People who treat things as sensitive as this with such disregard should be stripped of their license. If you want to treat this like a part time job or hobby, this is why you will only have part time business! andddd I forgot to mention that one of the Reverend's had to carry the flowers in the back of her car because APPARENTLY they can't fit in the hearse, ----------------------------------------------------- It is now four days later, 3 days after they told me the remains were returned and again, even after talking to them on the phone and in person, NO ONE KNOWS WHY I'M HERE and she STILL has yet to be picked up!!!! I am following the director to the crematorium now to retrieve the remains MYSELF!
