I was surprised by some of the nicer items they carried. For example, they carried nicer quality souvenir magnets for one Euro... the exact ones sold for 5 Euros in other souvenir stores! There's a new Aldi in northwest Munich! It's a really good one too. Here's the deets:…read more 1) Easy to reach with the 63 Bus, this Aldi is in the lower level of the new "Forum" shopping centre at the north end of the Friendheimer Brücke. 2) There is a parking garage for those of you who drive. 3) The store is really large. While the selection is pretty standard for all Aldi locations, the fact that they have space means they are less likely to be out of whatever you need, as can often happen at smaller Aldi locations right before Ruhetage. 4) The large space also means that there are more "special" items for sale in the middle of the store, such as an extra large Easter candy display. Yum. 5) I might be seeing things through rose-tinted lenses, but I have the feeling that there are more organic items here than at other locations. For example, I saw organic whole grains - spelt, millet, barley - being sold here, which I haven't noticed anywhere else. 6) After getting the basics here, it's easy to round out the rest with either the Alnatura or the Rewe on the ground floor level.

I was desperate for a Dirndl, and having looked all over Munich, couldn't find one that tripped my trigger. As a last resort, I saw some in the window and dragged my husband inside. There were quite a few cute designs, but I was more interested in a specific color. I finally found one I liked and purchased it. Surprisingly, I didn't see another one like it when we went to Oktoberfest the following day! 30/2021

Crew, S. Oliver instead of The Gap - but the construction, flow and feeling of the place really parallels the nicer malls I used to see back in the good ol' US of A. That said, the selection in the stores here seems to be about half of each respective store's normal stock. So if you don't find what you want here, you might consider looking for a bigger location of the same store. One bonus here is the free wifi. A few years ago I did buy dirndl from another shop and was disappointed in the fabric and comfort of the other dresses. The 10+ year old dirndl from Trachten Rausch that has been worn dozens of times, even lent to friends, looks newer than the other shop's after being worn only twice. We were staying in Old Town and I got the impression you could really only find very expensive, designer ones or touristy, low quality ones. After a lot of research, I saw Trachten Rausch come up multiple times. I walked to the store and was immediately greeted by a young saleswoman who figured out my size quickly and whisked me away to a small changing room. She brought a few options, helped me in and out of them and we settled on two final options - both reasonably priced (do not expect to spend less than 150 euro on anything quality). I chose the one I wanted and was rung up and out the door. Both sales women I spoke with spoke excellent English and didn't make me feel bad about my very poor German speaking skills. This was an excellent experience - the dirndls are beautiful and I'm excited to wear mine!
