    Mechanic fixing non-operable vehicle, 2 days after I contacted Europcar

    Europcar is absolutely the lowest integrity, do wrong by the customer business I have ever dealt with. I was given false information in Costa Rica at the airport in terms of the facility location (which is offsite), and the price of the vehicle. When they got me to their offsite location they insisted on insurance, even though I have a picture (see attached) from the Europcar representative with what was supposed to be my total price. Classic bait and switch. I was traveling with family, 2 of whom are elderly (in their 80s), so by the time I realized I was not being dealt with honestly I was too committed to change companies and make my in-laws wait longer in the 90 degree heat. During our vacation the vehicle we rented broke down and couldn't be driven for 2 days, which had an impact on our vacation and planned activities. See photo I've attached of the mechanic fixing the transmission. I asked for an adjustment to the charges when I returned the vehicle - it doesn't seem right to pay for a car that can't be driven - but was told that only headquarters could do that. I have dealt with customer service for over 2 months to get a refund but have been met with "we are looking in to the issue" and now complete silence. I have provided them with WhatsApp exchanges with the local representative (they insist on communicating through WhatsApp, presumably because it's free) and photos of the mechanics repairing the non-operable vehicle. You have many choices for rental cars. Save yourself the headache and go with any company other than Europcar. Look at the other reviews - there is clearly a pattern of terrible customer experiences and customer service. To whoever the leaders are of this company who have cultivated a culture of dishonest dealings and screwing customers - karma is a bitch. I hope you get it all dumped back on you and then some..

    The car they backed into the rental after the fact. They are trying to add this to damage.

    The worst! They scam you, cheat you, lie to you and then force you to buy insurance you don't need!!!

    Avoid wasting your time/money here. They don't respect the reservation and they wanted us to pay more than it was.

Of course that was the only thing I hadn't taken a picture of before I left the lot. when I returned the car and noticed that I was being charged for the gas cap I didn't have time to discuss it with the rude woman because I had to get to my flight so I signed the paper and told her I would contact my bank and I would get my money back. when I got my credit card statement I had been charged for 2 cars and a gas cap plus a fine for smoking in the vehicle and 6 liters of gas. I called them immediately and they stated they had the signed receipt and hung up on me. I called my credit card company and they took the charges off pending their investigation. I sent them they receipt and photos I had taken and a copy of the return inspection sheet the rental place had given me when I returned the car. There was no mention of the gas cap or smokin the car on the copy they gave me. I also sent a copy of my reservation confirmation that showed the size of the vehicle and the cost including taxes and insurance. I thought with the paperwork and photos I submitted the credit card company would side with me but that didn't happen. Hertz wrote a statement and that per my request they issued me was an upgrade to the car I had reserved and there for they charged me for both cars. They said it was explained to me before I took the car. they also said that missing gas cap and smoking were not "discovered" until after I was gone, but they amended their copy of the return inspection sheet and emailed a copy immediately. They apologized for the misunderstanding and said that it was probably due to us speaking different languages. I am a white woman from the USA and I AM FLUENT IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH!!!!!! the credit card company decided to not pay for the gas cap or the smoking but the double rental charges ended up on me. Be very careful at these rental car places in Mexico!!!

Lady at the counter was outright rude, and she settled me with a more expensive vehicle arguing that since I had only booked two hours before she couldn't honor my reservation and instead she would either have to downgrade me to a piece of junk or upgrade me to a more expensive option.I chose the later. Upon my return she would not close my contract arguing that the car had sustained a scratch. She was clearly making up an excuse to penalize me for a damage that was not there and she and her coworker insisted that there was a scratch where there was nothing. I was feeling as if being framed and abused. She insisted I describe the "accident" on a form. I asked to talk to a supervisor and she said there was nobody else I could talk to. I asked her to call somebody and she gave me a 800 number and told me to use my own phone. I have never in decades of renting cars felt more humiliated or ripped off

Everything looks and works ok at first but a few days later you're going realize they're some seriously messed up things going on with your ride. Allow me to explain: 1. MALFUNCTIONING FOB - This started on the same day as we were 2.5 hrs away from the city. For those of you who don't know, THIS IS THE THING THAT OPENS THE DOORS AND STARTS THE FRICKING CAR!!! What the hell!? I can't tell you how maddening (and panic-inducing) it is when this thing started to go on the fritz. At fist, we thought it was us but after reading the instructions on google, it started to dawn on us that the FOB battery was almost dead. On the second day, we literally could not lock our car as it just stopped that functionality. 2. A Mexican Economy car = A Smart Car. I kid you not. It's extremely small and will have nothing to do with an American Avis economy size rating. To get anything useful for 3+ people you will need to get a STANDARD sized car - the equivalent of an American Economy. 3. Useless Mobil WIFI pack. Paperweights have more value than this p.o.s. - 1 hour outside of the city and it lost its connection so frequently we gave up and resorted to using our phones. 4. Our car came with lots of dings and dents. Make sure YOU RECORD ALL on the initial inspection - they are VERY thorough on drop off (I watch as 3 different people check and make notes about our car on return). Fortunately, I had marked everything I saw - so no additional costs there. 5. Our engine/clutch was so weak it would stall on speed bumps - this made starting on hills super exciting as I revved the f*ck out of the engine while s l o w l e y engaging the clutch. Another p.o.s. feature. 6. Front tires were going bald. I missed this on my initial inspection. But noticed it on the 2nd day. The deep vertical grooves were ok there but no horizontal grooves at all. Just flat smooth worn rubber. So, I checked out the back and they were fine. Clearly, this car never had its tires rotated. Like ever. So yeah. I strongly recommend looking somewhere else as the guys don't give a f a a a a k.

The process took over THREE HOURS to check in at the airport took 1/2 hr and it wasn't even a check in, then wait 40 min for a transport to the location, then it took them another 1/2 hr just to get to me WHEN THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME. Don't forget You will have to go through the same process when you drop off the car!! They then said the insurance that I purchased wasn't good enough (paid quite a bit for it too), and tried to pressure me to purchase their policy also. They attempted to scare me into it! Then they took a deposit of 90k pesos which was also not disclosed. And they force you to sign a contract in Spanish so you have no idea what you're signing! Then when they did the walk-through of the car, there was significant damage to the front end and they said it was fine and didn't mark anything on the paperwork. He just handed me the keys and said go ahead and go. I said I wanted to do a walk-through of the car, so I walked around the car and there was a dent on the back end and significant damage on the grill/front end of the car (roads are really bad here) so I pointed that out to him, and he wasn't even going to mark on the car paperwork. Un día antes de la entrega del coche me llamo para decirme que tenía que entregar el coche (se equivocó). Al entregar el coche, según su criterio el coche tenía ralladuras que no tenía, el coche llegó intacto. Nos los querían cobrar si o si, si no llamo a Profeco y pido info, me clavan más de 7mil pesos, Aún no me devuelven el depósito. No vuelvo a rentar con Budget de reforma. Ojo, pésima actitud y servicio.
