For our 3-day stay in Menorca, this is where we rented our wheels. I checked out the car at a convenient window withing baggage claim, and we only had a short walk to the far end of terminal (it's a small airport) to pick up the car.
Negatives
1. The guy at the counter near baggage claim tried really hard to up sell me to an automatic or a larger car, or a convertible. I soon got tired of it, even though the guy acted like his salary depended on it.
2. A drop off, the Europcar rep went over the car with a fine tooth comb looking for any scratches, dents, etc. that would kick in the insurance I had wisely chose when the car was reserved. He found a number of scratches on the front bumper of which I know of only 1 that I might have made. As Menorca is full of stone fences lining narrow roads, this is probably a good possible revenue enhancement. However, no extra charges appeared afterwards.
3. To get to the rental car garage for car drop off, we had to go through 2 ticket machines, 1 of which a nice local came up front to show us how it worked. I'm not used to driving obstacle courses to return a car.
Positives
1. Our car was a nice one that served us well. And it had manual transmission with 6 gears! The car was small enough to get through the tightest of roads, parking garages, and turns.
2. Petrol fill-up was straightforward and not that more expensive that California gasoline prices. It's interesting that in Spain, you pump first (just lift the handle) and then pay inside. read more
