Compared to the Islands of Ibiza and Mallorca, Menorca is the quiet island within the Balearic chain. And so is its small airport. It's kind of like Kauai compared to Maui or Oahu in Hawaii. At the same time, flights come and go frequently, either domestically from Barcelona, or internationally from France or the UK. During our subsequent travels on Menorca, we heard a lot of French, and ran into a lot of Brits.
On the Arrivals side, our bags came out fast, rental car pickup was an easy walk, and we were out on the road before you could say "Bob's Your Uncle". Plus it wasn't crowded at all.
On the Departure side, Petrol stations were close by for the rental car and airport access was straightforward. Thins were a little more crowded, but that was all manageable. The longest wait was for the Vueling counter to open, as we arrived relatively early. The subsequent Security and Boarding lines were relatively short and sweet. Once we were past Security, the commercial area was a little tight, including a division between those of us heading out domestically to Barcelona, and the French and Brits et. al. who had to pass through passport control.
And what were the tourists heading home purchasing at the airport as a last minute gift purchase? A. A variety of delicious Menorca baked goods in ornate boxes tied with a string. read more
