Upon arrival you feel special while driving up to the old estate. The adjacent golf course fairways are dotted with old derelict stone buildings. There's even a partial portion of the original water moat on the 18th fairway. The views are gorgeous. The old house is rather dated and frowzy around the edges. Some peeling wallpaper in the room. The floor base boards are beat up in places. 1950's era plumbing in the bathroom. Pluses are the super king size bed is remarkably comfortable. The linens are luxurious. The room size is generous. The 4 common rooms on the ground floor are large, historic and rather dramatic, like a movie scene. The personnel are all pleasant, competent, and friendly. We dined at the brasserie twice. Meals were acceptable, barely more. Not fine dining. There is another fine dining restaurant that has 1 Michelin star. That menu was was priced above my budget. The hotel charges 23 euros for breakfast, I also did not partake that. Even though I am a rabid golfer at home in California, I play 3 or 4 days per week, I did not play here. I explored the pro shop. The rental golf clubs are rather dated. I am a left handed player, there was just one set of early 2000's vintage Titleist mismatched club set in the bag with a junior length putter. So even if I wanted to play I would be frustrated with the sub-standard rental equipment. I love this rural area of France. Lots of wide open space. Practically no other cars on the winding country roads. Would I stay at Vigiers again? Probably no.

Four stars for the four star hotel at Chateau des Vigiers. My boyfriend and I stayed here one night…read moreand played 2 rounds of golf. Unfortunately, although there are 27 holes we only played the same 18 both days because of some competition that was going on in the other (most interesting looking) 9 holes. I wouldn't mention it except that it has happened twice now, and at the prices they charge you should get a reduction because you can't choose the 18 you want to play. The hotel was lovely with underfloor heating in the massive bathroom and shower. They have the golf channel (the french one of course) which was great to watch while on our golf holiday. The breakfast we ate was very french (all the pastries, breads, jams, ham, hard-boiled eggs, cheese, fruits, and an espresso machine.) We had a nice dinner in the bar/restaurant near the pro shop. It was interesting and creative, but nothing all that special for a 3-course meal in France. The bar is really big (like a pub) but the drinks were also pretty expensive. The place definitely try's to portray wealth and class, and it does, but you can find excellent food, drink, and golf for a better price in the region.
