Stepping over the threshold of Eurantik is like stepping back into the 19th Century. Every possible space in this shop is decoratively adorned with statues, sculptures, mirrors, furniture, chandeliers and the just plain bizarre. It's easy to almost stumble into an oversized ceramic green fish with an enormous gaping mouth, which I'm sure a small child could easily fit inside.
Chatting to the owner, he tells me that twice a year, the staff take several months to scour Western Europe (not the UK, he assures me) for unique artefacts to fill the shop. Sadly, he says that it's becoming increasingly difficult to procure unique pieces as prices are increasing and sales are diminishing.
If I could justify that buying a chandelier or a solid gold chest of draws would fit perfectly into my tiny apartment, I totally would. But for now, I'll gaze blissfully at all the beautiful ornaments and imagine how splendid they'll look in my future castle or chateaux. read more
