Our cat was attacked by two dogs on Friday and the care (or lack there of) by Dr. Haggard has left us with nothing. Our cat died on Sunday. He did a quick exam, pushing on our cats belly & saying "it's just some puncture wounds, there's no internal bleeding, do you hear the air in there"....he gave him an antibiotic shot and one for pain. Asked if we wanted to give him fluids but did not talk to us about the benefits of doing that, or the possibility that truly do not know if there is damage to the internal organs unless you do surgery & open an animal up. When I called twice for help on Sunday morning I was made to feel as though I was putting Dr. Haggard out and my concerns dismissed. He just wanted to make sure that I knew I'd be paying another emergency fee and exam fee, oh and we'll have to do bloodwork so you're looking at at least $300 right off. I was asking for HIS ADVICE on the cold ears and cold pads (I expressed this in my 8:30 am call and my 11 am conversations with him). He told me you can't tell anything from a cats extremities, the only way to tell their temperature is by taking their temperature rectally. When he asked if he could stand on his own I said don't think so, my husband tried last night. I said you want me to wake him up now to try? In an irritated tone, he says "yes, or you'll be calling me back again this afternoon". So I wake the cat up, or try & stand him up and he fell like a limp noodle. He was getting more irritated and telling me I need to make sure that I wake him up more. At this point, I called my husband to the phone as he was wailing and I was done talking from my frustration with the lack of empathy and care. I'd asked twice about bringing the cat in for fluids and he just tried to make sure I knew how much it would cost me and displayed an attitude of being completely put out. Fast forward to Sunday afternoon around 3 & I was driving our cat to Blue Pearl emergency vet. By the time I'm carrying him in the door he is wailing and moving around and they carried him off. Within 30-45 minutes he passed on his own. They believed he was septic, his temperature was so low it would not read on a thermometer, his pupils were unresponsive and he stopped breathing on his own. You tell me if you think that our cat was given the best care he could have been? Would you be satisfied by that if you took your animal there?

I took my 4 week old kitten here for her 1st vet visit. They were extremely nice and they didn't seem to overcharge for the services. I loved how they handled little Atari and talked to me about what to expect.

It was short tho & Kinley came to take us to the room which was large, clean & well equipped. We began discussing Gracie's arthritis & I looked over to see the vet on the floor engaging with my dog! Dr. Holstrom was so kind & extremely thorough with Gracie's exam. I had questions about some lumps & how to treat them. She gave me several options & explained them thoroughly. We reviewed all of Gracie's health matters. Head to toe. The Dr. & Kinley really made me feel like they cared about Gracie & her well being. They were so great with my dog, but also fantastic with me, too. It was so nice to talk with them. This was my first visit to Pleasant Valley & they've got it ALL right. Lovely, clean, well maintained building & exam rooms; warm, friendly receptionists; short wait times; knowledgeable Dr. who is as good with people as she is with animals; technology (a very useful & easy to use app); & all these people are loving on my dog every step of the way. This is our retirement home so we are customers forever! I have already recommended Pleasant Valley to family and friends!

We have three dogs in our family, two of whom have some kind of crazy skin Allergy (with…read moreinflammation) in their paws and on lower legs. We brought these two dogs to the Pleasant Valley veterinarian clinic in Tonganoxie, Kansas, and we were so extremely impressed and wonderfully treated. Regrettably, one of our dogs is in fairly serious condition and the vet there recommended that we take him to a specialty veterinarian clinic that has an internist type physician for dogs to address his significant problems. What impressed my wife and me most was the fact that this particular veterinarian was MUCH more concerned about the well-being of our dog, rather than making money for herself, which we would have gladly paid her for many repeated visits for her to identify and treat our dog's significant health issues. But instead of making money, she was MUCH more concerned about the health of our dog, and she referred us to two viable animal clinics that have the type of internist that can properly address our dog's needs. So, the bottom line here is, if you want a veterinarian that is more concerned about the health and well being of your animal, rather thanher profit margins, I recommend that you take your animals to the Pleasant Valley veterinarian clinic in Tonganoxie, Kansas, and have a Veterinarian with incredible knowledge and integrity there take care of your pets. Truly impressive, truly inspiring, we couldn't be more grateful.

I've known about it for years and I love that I can call, or email them with questions when I find a wild animal in need of assistance. Most recently I found an injured baby squirrel while on a walk in my neighborhood. I emailed them and was advised to bring it in. I kept the squirrel as warm and as comfortable as I could overnight and then packed it up in a cat carrier and drove it out to Operation Wildlife's facility in Douglas County the next morning. If you have the means I encourage anyone and everyone to give to this place, and I say it even more now after seeing the building. 4/5 stars only because the man I encountered was honestly pretty rude to me and made me feel pretty bad about the situation, even though I had spent the better part of the previous 12 hours trying to save this little guy's life, and also because their facility just really needs some love, which I know is not their fault as I'm sure they operate on a very small budget. So in summary - this place does great work and likely doesn't have much of a choice in who they employ as it's volunteer run. If you have the means please donate to them so they can continue to service our region and help the wildlife in our neighborhoods.

My first issue with this place is their pricing is not at all transparent on their website. Their website says $45 a night. This is grossly misleading. My dog is incredibly anxious and takes medication to help with that. They charged me to give her her meds that I provided for her. $95. Ninety five dollars to give a dog one and a half pills once a day. Not once did they mention this either on their website or when I was dropping her off. I shrugged that off. Irritated, but those meds keep my dog safe and I will pay ANY amount to keep her safe. And then I got home. Whereupon I noticed two large injuries on her front paws. One swelling abrasion, and one puncture wound. Naturally concerned, I called them to ask about it. The manager that I spoke to was very helpful and apologetic and said that he'd discuss with his staff and get back to me. He was polite and overall a joy to speak to and deserves a promotion. He said that he didn't notice any injuries on my dog during his time with her. After the call, I received a call back from the owner. He was condescending and short with me, blaming my dogs swollen paw on a grass allergy. Plausible, right? No. She is a mostly outdoor dog and we regularly go on walks in grassy areas. Beyond that- get this! He said during my dogs nail trim, he noticed the abrasion and thought nothing of it. His exact words were "it's like a kid at daycare, right? Sometimes they get hurt." Which absolutely makes sense, but the difference here is the kids parents would get a call, an incident report, anything to be like "hey this happened FYI." And if I had gotten a call I wouldn't be so angry. When I brought up the lack of communication (which, btw, I called 2-3 times to check on her during my trip and this was NEVER mentioned) he said "oh do you want me to make a note of that in her file to give you a call if something like this happens again?" (That should be default. Call the owner if something happens to their dog, what the crap?) And I said "no thank you, she won't be returning so that won't be necessary", and instead of working with me to find a solution, or at the VERY least offering to cover veterinary bills or refund the $95 that they didn't tell me I would be paying, he offered a very condescending goodbye and promptly hung up on me. Also please note that NO ONE NOTICED THE PUNCTURE WOUND on my dog over the course of her stay, when it was visible enough that we noticed within ten minutes. I respect that this is a family owned business and appreciate the work that went into building this, but the negligence and lack of communication and transparency is not acceptable. Not to mention the absolute lack of any solution offered besides "put Neosporin on it". TLDR: they did not disclose pricing, were very condescending, and my dog came back injured.
