Sydney has a wonderful new, small theatre venue. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the plays will do justice to this beautiful space. Silent Night is currently playing at Eternity and it is not worthy of the venue.
Visiting Sydney for a couple of days, my wife and I wanted an evening of live theatre and took a chance on Silent Night. We left at interval, along with at least a dozen others. The play was puerile, childish on every level. What a waste of space, money and human resources.
Tickets were about $50 a seat. The theatre was only three-quarters full. The play was billed as a comedy. It was however, a full-tilted attack on the Christmas tradition and Christianity in general. No-one was laughing. One example is: the three wise men were delivered to the home of The Lickfolds in the form of life-size cut-outs, the 33 year old, Emo son, proceeds to have sex with one of the wise men cut-outs. He then, rests on the manger panting, in his underpants. This is supposed to be hilarious.
The Sydney Morning Herald critic, Jason Blake, said, 'This is the least funny, least appealing play I've seen in some time.'
He is quite right. Avoid this turkey. read more
