After speaking on the phone with Karl, the owner, for a few minutes, he asked that I email him the plaque so he can determine whether the job is doable. Karl indicated that he can do the engraving without a problem. I dropped off the plaque for Karl to work on. I called Karl a week later to see if the plaque was ready for pick up. Karl indicated that it was ready. The engraving was $6 plus some change. Such a good deal for the quality of work! Karl and I visited a bit and he showed me the other work he does. Karl enjoys personalizing his work. Sure, you can order from a catalog of trophies and plaques, but Karl prefers to build out custom-made pieces for clients. Letterpress is not for the impatient --- one must wait a few weeks to get plates and ink ordered. But patience goes a long way when you see your beautiful piece of letterpressed paper. One must also be somewhat knowledgable in Pantone colors and paper types, though Chuck always helped when I didn't understand the difference between uncoated and coated. Everyone who works there is friendly and works really hard --- don't be afraid to ask for a tour. I got a tour of the facility, their machines, their foils and papers, and got to view recent works of theirs (like major NFL and NHL foil tickets... amazing). Even though they do major printing (like thousands and thousands of something) on a daily basis, they also like taking on the smaller jobs of 100 wedding invites.

He took the ring and had it sized in a few business hours. I expected him to try to upsell us into paying for a rhodium plating because my husband's ring is a few years old, and he did not even mention it. (All of the other jewelers that I contacted mentioned it, and I get rather annoyed when other businesses push something onto you for more money that isn't necessary.) When he got the ring back, it looked fantastic! It did not even need the plating! They cleaned it up and shined it and it fit perfectly! The customer service is consistently top-notch. I picked up a Tudor FXD from them brand new, and the entire process was smooth and enjoyable. I also sold them a vintage Rolex, and they were very fair with their offer. I combined that with some of my own money to purchase the Tudor, and I couldn't be happier with how everything worked out. The store itself is clean and welcoming. On hot days they even offer cold water, which is a small touch but says a lot about how they treat their customers. Their selection of pre-owned watches is excellent--plenty of great pieces to look through. I haven't spent much time on the jewelry side, but the watch selection alone is worth the visit. Every time I called, I was given a different price for the same tombstone. They were unwilling to even send me an estimate on email so I could nail down the total cost of the grave marker service. Fortunately, I found a few other companies that were willing to work with me and provide estimates on paper before I made my final decision so I could be as prudent as possible with a very expensive and permanent choice.
