Then they sent me to Verizon with the best Wi-Fi quality they had which is some of the shittiest Wi-Fi. I have played on yet can't play none of the games that I have without lagging for a whole minute Just remind you, I paid for the Wi-Fi that was supposed to allow seven people at least to all be gaming and streaming and not have any problems. Since they're also a security company, someone is there to answer the phone 24/7. Jasper water & power has increased prices, if you ask me, to pay for the new neighborhoods being built, but not ETC! ETC in Ellijay and north of Ellijay seems to really work hard to improve and maintain excellent communication solutions for remote areas of North GA. I am an IT engineer and have been in the communication industry many years in suburban Atlanta. ETC offers very good service and solutions and has even improved its performance without cost increase in my areas just recently. That is not always passed along to the customer. The service in clearing lines and repairs is also very good in a difficult area. It is appreciated. read more

The only reason ETC is receiving 2stars is the helpful info given to us by the office staff and the technician that came to install. As to actual business they are ridiculously priced nickle an dime to death. No real special to get your business! Then there's 10 different install charges. They gave us a remote that is a dinosaur the old chunky 10 button device dvd,vhs, aux, ect.. no instructions and if you need to stream then you best have another remote for your tv to switch between! There is no simple way to say this but at the price they charge they could take the time to update their devices! I wake at 430 to no tv can't connect to anything! Whatever was done disabled the remote on my as well! Very disappointed! Should have gone to dish! read more

This is, by far, the worst internet service I've experienced. It's slightly better than satellite (at least we don't run out of data), and slightly faster than dial up, that's about it. I'm running DSL (DSL? What is this, 2000?) at .5MPBS. That's not fast enough to stream a decent movie. Forget about working from home. I'm a designer and copywriter and I have to use my phone for most uploads. I can't understand how this company is allowed to run a monopoly in this town? Someone has to call somebody and get them investigated. In our community (blackberry mountain) they want to charge us, the residents, $441,000 to drag lines from Rivers Edge into our community, and then charge $80 a month for fiber service. Let that sink in. They want us to pay for the expense of their expansion and then pay a monthly fee on top of that. How is that even legal? We completely absorb their risk in expanding and then get the privilege of paying them a monthly fee on top of that. All so we can have what the community next to me, literally 1000 feet away, has. Someone needs to break this company, take away all of their lines, and get Verizon and AT&T to take over. Verizon Fios is stunningly fast. This Ellijay outfit is a joke and a disgrace. They're a monopoly and are doing exactly what monopolies do in areas like this. SHUT THEM DOWN!!! read more

Not the fastest but definitely the fastest around here. Very hopeful they are committed to increasing speeds in the future as we all pay bills similar to people getting gig speeds in other areas. That part kinda sucks for the consumer. That being said, they just raised my 80/8 to 150/10 for no charge, not sure what promoted this, but i'm very happy about it since speed is the #1 issue with this provider. This act has made me see they do care about their customers and are actively trying to please. I just had DSL installed at my RV in the Coosawattee Campground. When I contracted for this, I was told I would get 6 MBPS download speeds. I am not even getting 2 MBPS. I contacted ETC and was told that my speed is throttled due to my distance from the wire center. I am one of the closest properties to ETC offices. Also, this was never mentioned while I was on the phone with ETC setting this install up. Very disappointed! read more

ETC overcharges. We have Basic cable and high speed internet for over $87 a month with a one year contract. Half the channels and a lesser mb for the broadband...plus no contract with Comcast for about $15 more than Comcast charges in Marietta. Hopefully a new cable company will move in soon. read more

Not only the worst internet service I have ever experienced, but the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with. We are not getting anywhere close to what we pay for and the overall service is completely unreliable. At best, I get 3 Mbps and I usually average around 1.5-2 Mbps. At worst, speeds drop to .2 Mbps. Certain times of the day have extreme latency issues for absolutely no reason. Management should not only be fired, but jailed. read more

I add to these bad reviews. In fact, if I could give a zero star, I would. ETC gets an F- grade from me and my wife. When we lived in Jasper, we always felt they overcharged, indeed. We had very few "technical" issues there, but basic cable, for the time I had it, was rather lame. Their commercials and marketing are so badly done. We dropped cable long ago, and since we moved to Ellijay a year and a few months ago, it's been nothing but trouble. My wife has a telecommuting option from work, and we need decent, stable internet access. Forget it. I truly had more stable service from a dial-up service back in the 1990s. Slower, a bit, but more stable than anything ETC offers. We've shown them speed test after speed test, bottoming out at absurd numbers like the other reviewer here. They keep coming out and replacing old wiring and gear at the control box(es), and then one time actually at our new home. We can't even have much fun with basic internet anymore. Streaming even short video? Forget it. Fast downloads? No way. We have internet and basic phone (very limited long distance), and we're paying almost $80 a month for this garbage. It took us the whole year and few months just to finally get a straight answer on how to override the security system code that the builder of the home couldn't seem to give us to operate it. Customer service is hit or miss. Oh, they're nice enough, sure. Put up with a ton of our complaints for sure. We've had to speak multiple times with the VP of the dang company just to get anywhere. He tried to explain why they're charging so much for so little, which sounded like a bunch of BS. We think they're simply ripping a lot of people off, they don't want to update old equipment, and because they don't feel they have to. After all, they won't let ANYone else come in to compete. Surely they'd start losing a lot of business if they did. I can't say enough about how bad ETC is. WAY behind the times here. Very unreliable service in Ellijay. We're at Carter's Lake, so country, sure...but not THAT far from Ellijay center. Surely not far enough out to have prehistoric internet and phone service. We pay for 15mb speed. We don't even get 5. Rip. Off. If we didn't need the internet for work, I'd just assume cancel everything from these people. Some nice people, yes. But wow, as a company? Horrible. Just awful. I have been a loyal customer for about 10 years and called yesterday to cancel service because my bill was suddenly $30 more a month. When I called all I got was "it was in your contract." My contract of 2 years had run out, but I didn't magically remember this. So I called and the lady I talked to was rude and very unhelpful. It was too expensive anyway. I guess this may be a good thing. I am now going with Windstream for internet and DirectTV for my TV. read more
