I guess soccer is a huge thing in Portugal, because Lisbon has two teams, each with their own huge stadium. We bought the stadium tour, with the Museum tour. For the tour, the brought us out to the pitch and we got to walk around the outside of all the seats, which was cool. The press seats area was closed, but we did get to see the visitor's locker room and the two bald eagles that are the team's mascot. I thought it was weird that they don't sell beer in the stadium, but I guess people get tuned up before the game. We also got to see where they have the post game press conference, and our tour guide took our picture. A fun couple of hours if you have the time

This is a wonderful art gallery: light, spacious and very airy it makes many other major art galleries seem cramped and a bit confined in comparison. A real jewel in the crown for the art scene in Lisboa, I would make this a "must do" if you are here on a mini break. If you can spare the time, and you enjoy modern art, I would recommend having lunch in one of the many decent cafes in the complex and making a whole day of your visit. We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon here and we only managed to check out the amazing selection of works from the collection of Jose Berardo. Thoughtfully curated the work was displayed in a number of rooms on the ground floor of the gallery which made for an interesting journey through the collection. Some of this work is just stunning and you will find something of interest from most of the important artists of the past fifty years. I was struck by the depth and range of the collection and if you are interested in film/video installations you will find this a real treat. If you are in need of a rest, or a breath of fresh air to keep you going, take a little time out in the lovely garden as you wander round. I find that I can only take so much visual and aural stimulus at one go, so the opportunity to chill out in this great, fragrant space was very welcome. Our afternoon soon slipped through our fingers and much to our disappointment we had no time to check out the Mappa Mundi or other interesting looking exhibitions. We made a quick stop at the well-stocked shop to pick up a trifle or two before a short walk to the tram stop and the journey back into town for another tasty supper. This place is already on the ever growing "must revisit" list.

But, I ended up pleasantly surprised by the added parts which included a museum and a "birds of prey" exhibit. The bird exhibit (and photo op) alone was 5 stars--I'm easily impressed by birds, I guess. The library, which I came for, was visually impressive. Yet, I was SUPER DISAPPOINTED that visitors couldn't actually go into the library. You can only take photos from one end and only about 3 meters into the space. So. Disappointed. Even so, it was a gorgeous space and seeing the rest of the palace sort of helped assuage my disappointment. If you're in the area (or an old library fan girl, I'd recommend it.

This year I had some time to burn before going somewhere else and decided to pay the 3€ to enter the museum! When you walk in there is an impressive fountain-waterfall arrangement on the back wall which made me think the 3€ would be worth it. However, once I started walking and going towards the fountain I realized there was nothing more to see than said wall arrangement and the large pond that occupied the entire museum. But then I went up the stairs and it was a nice surprise to catch a nice panoramic view of Lisbon :) It turns out that this pond that was about 50feet deep was just a place to store the city's public supply of water during some years in the past. All in all, I don't think I will ever come back to this museum because there was not much to see. (Except there was a cute purse at their little souvenir store at the entrance that looked like it was perfect to go to the beach with, so I might come back to buy it when I actually have more money).
