The first time, I asked him to remove a pair of middling tall palms along the property line, one of which had potential to damage the neighbor's roof. I like that neighbor, and I wouldn't want to crush him! Jay took down the palms without a hitch and ground the trunks as pretty as you please. So, last Friday when I checked Yelp to make sure he was still around, I was surprised to find I hadn't left him the review he deserved then. Well, time to fix that oversight, as I write him a review for this week. I call that remaining palm a barrel palm because it was squat and ugly as an old, splintered barrel. I'd been "maintaining" it all this time, which just meant trimming back the specific fronds that hung out into the street where the garbage trucks do their thing. Eventually, I got old and stiff and developed a dislike for getting skewered by the palm's spikes. Time to call Jay. He and his assistant were here the following Monday. The tricky thing about this palm (beyond those spikes) was that it probably sat right over the water line running into the house, so -- like the first time, and for similar reasons -- I was a lot more comfortable with someone who was licensed and insured. That said, we decided that the safest way to proceed was to cut the stump down close to grade, no grinding, so I could landscape over it. Over a couple hours, Jay cut that palm down to within a few inches of grade and hauled away all the carnage. And all without roaring wood mulchers or restricting traffic. (Someone down the block has gone the bigger company route, and it's going to be a long day for all.) So, job meticulously and elegantly done! Thank you, Jay, and apologies for several years of neglect.
