Raider Nation in Mexico
Angelina G.

I really don't want to hate on a clear extension of the Raider Nation. The entire atmosphere was truly bent in favor of a (at-a-distance) home game, nonetheless the enormity and the lack of accessibility of this facility was horrendous. First, entry lines begin at the street which must be equivalent to several city blocks from the stadium entrance. Second, you're only allowed to enter in the single entrance dedicated to your section. Getting to the third tier end zone seats required circling the stadium, climbing a couple flights of stairs, and ascending three uphill ramps. Third, once inside locating your seat requires a GPS navigation system or a well versed guide. Forth, almost no one speaks any English including the emergency personnel so don't require any assistance. Fifth, most of the personnel have no idea where things are and I didn't see a food concession stand anywhere. Depending on where you're seated determines if vendors will step over and around you to sell edibles or pass your food purchase through a barbed-wire fence opening. Either way it's very distracting. The worse part is that the vendors sell cigarettes which leads to the final and most egregious part of the experience, smoking is EVERYWHERE! Take the elevation, the pollution/smog, plus the cigarette smoke into account and breathing is surely impaired. If you must go: --take a mask or scarf to guard against ghastly inhalation --pack some real food --if possible be in top physical condition --limit heavy food or drink beforehand --avoid alcohol or substance use (hint) Last note: There was only one bathroom facility outside the stadium for 76K attendees.

Old but still appealing, like an old shoe. Reminds me of Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. Definitely from the same era. Easy to get into and out of and well organized. The crowd was not rowdy at all which made it all the more enjoyable.

Club America vs Chiapas Jaguars.

I don't need to write anything. If you love football, you should go here if you have the opportunity. A place where some of the most magical, controversial and important things in the history of football happened. It was only the Jaguars visiting and the stadium was only 1/3rd full but the noise and singing was amazing. Tame match on the field - America took the lead, Jaguars equalised and America won it in the second half. Amazing stadium.

Given the declining popularity of this sport, or art, or whatever you want to call it, you don't…read morehave to worry about getting tickets in advance. I've been here at least 5 times now and I consistently get my tickets at the window and sit in the same section without being forced to sit in the nosebleeds. The stadium sits over 40,000 but I've never seen it more than 5,000-10,000 people full. Probably the most important thing to keep in mind is that you need to be here with your entire group when you do buy the tickets or else is gets complicated. Not only is there a separate ticket window for sun (sol) versus shade (sombra), there's also different windows within those sections for 1st, 2nd, 3rd section (tendido) and general admission. And since you are assigned seat numbers, this is why you all need to be together. As far as where to sit, here's a little secret: bullfight season in Mexico City is only during the winter months from October-February when there isn't much sun anyway. So, if you want to stand in the longer line for the sun-side tickets, you'll end up spending a lot less money. But if you want to skip the long line and don't mind splurging a little more, go to the sombra window. As far as concession, the staff is on their game with drinks and food, but the food options completely suck and make no sense. Donuts, for example. The bull jerky I understand, but it's drier than a Mexican desert. That said, I don't recommend going here on an empty stomach, particularly if you plan on staying for each of the 5+ fights, which typically last anywhere from 20-30 minutes each.

Fists time ever viewing a bull fight and I was in awe. It's not for everyone so do not go if you…read morefind this barbaric, and inhumane. The stadium is HUGE, sits 42,000 people, and the seats are very small. Even though we asked to sit on the "shaded part" I got sunburned so make sure to take protection. It is definitely worth visiting when in la Ciudad de Mexico I loved it.

El Tri - Mexico National Soccer Team

Where do L's come from? From the L Tree of course!…read more The Mexican national soccer team has continued to flatter to deceive for decades and decades. Basically ever since they were created and came into existence. I have never seen a country more obsessed and fanatical about soccer AKA football. However this particular country has never had the glory to match the passion. They produce some truly amazing players and play some truly fantastic football but unfortunately due to really bad organization and hierarchy they have never managed to turn their passion into Victory. I still absolutely love watching them, especially remembering the old days of Jorge Campos, and Hermosillo. Of Luis Garcia and Garcia Aspe, and of course going way back to the legend, Hugo Sanchez. But unfortunately all the great names in the world have not led to silverware for this nation. Because they have flattered to deceive, and failed to live up to their amazing potential, I will give them four stars. Someday I hope to raise the rating to 5. But to watch Mexico play at estadio Azteca is a truly life-changing experience. I think the racism concerning this team including the backlash whenever they try to field a player that was not born in the country - let alone a coach from elsewhere - is a large part of why the team continues to fail. Being open-minded and welcoming in every aspect of the nation and the soccer team would be an important step forward.
