From the airport, you'll take Line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios and then connect to wherever you needed to go. Line 8 is one of the few where the announcements are also in English. The connections were quite easy to maneuver in my opinion. For me, I took Line 10 to Santo Domingo and then Line 3 to Callao and ended up near my hotel. Very seamless process. A tad bit of walking underground, but that is to be expected outside the US. I found that the 10 trip is the most efficient deal for a 3 day stay. The signage is pretty clear in my opinion. I think it's easy for any foreigner to manage manuevering, granted they've had some experience navigating the metros in their local cities.

More leg room,quiet coach car,comfortable seating and hot meal with beverage service all included. You also get access to their Club Room in the train station which we were not aware of until it was too late. Train travel in Spain is definitely a fun experience and a lot different than in the US.

There aren't a lot of signs, look for the Metro signs, almost all the workers at the airport take the train so they can direct you. The ticket machines can initialy be a little confusing, and some are inevitably out of order. Avoid the ones that read "for tourists" as they only dispense the more expensive package. What you want is a ten ride ticket with round trip airport. If there are two of you, both sets of tickets will be on the one card. Trains are frequent, so take your jetlagged time getting from the ticket machine down to the train stop.

It involved a walk, a bus ride and some more walking to get to Terminal 4 where the trains depart. Once getting here, it was easy to find the Renfe area, purchase a ticket and make my way to the platform. They have very decent signage that points the way, turnstiles to make sure that you've purchased a ticket and a small number of seats at the platform for you to wait for your train. During the morning hours, the trains seem to run every 30 minutes. There are boards indicating the next train, where it's stopping and which of the two platforms to use. There was hardly anyone aside from myself on my ride. Good option if you don't have a lot of luggage. There are also staff at the ticket area helping lost and confused customers like myself with the ticketing machines. And for 2.6€ I cannot be happier!!
