I wasted 45 minutes trying to find it. The Plaça Espanya is under heavy construction hiding the sign and entrance. And my maps kept sending me to the nearby metro station, not the train. Finally upon finding the entrance, everything was a piece of cake. Follow the Montserrat signs down and to a small kiosk to buy your train ticket. Then head down another level to the tracks. Montserrat train leaves every hour. It fills up fast even as late as 9:30 am with both tourists and locals. It's a simple very plain station. The entrance is on a small island I front of the Catalonia Hotel. But it's labeled as Montserrat instead of Estació Espanya. Also look for R5, it's the actual train you need.

There were a lot of steps, it was a difficult haul through the stations. Passengers were required to wear masks on the metro. With a map in hand we were easily able to navigate the colored liked around the city.

Barcelona Sants Railway Station is the city's busiest rail hub and the starting point for many…read morehigh-speed AVE journeys. We arrived via Metro Line 3, which connects directly to the station. From there, the signage made it easy to navigate to the high-speed train area on the upper levels. Before boarding, there is a baggage screening checkpoint, followed by a boarding line where tickets are checked. Once you clear both, you head down a level to reach the platforms and board your train. The process is generally smooth and organized, though at peak times the lines can get long (really long), so it's worth arriving with some extra time. The station itself is more about function than charm, but it has all the essentials: shops, cafés, luggage storage, and car rental desks. Accessibility is decent with escalators, elevators, and ramps, though maneuvering through crowds with luggage can still be a little challenging. Overall, Barcelona Sants does its job well as a modern transport hub. It may not be the most atmospheric station in Europe, but it's easy to reach by metro, clearly signposted, and efficient for catching high-speed trains.

I rolled into Barcelona Sants Estació from Paris to begin the second leg of my trip in Barcelona…read more Train stations tend to be chaotic, and they're prime spots for people to get pickpocketed, so I like to spend at little time in them as possible, and constantly be moving while there. This is the main train station in the city, and as such it's quite large with several different areas and connections. I was a little confused once we arrived as I needed to find the Metro, but after orienting myself it was no issue. Besides that, Barcelona Sants Estació is really no frills. It got me where I needed to go, and at the end of the day that's all that matters.

A small station on the line from Barcelona to Blanes, with suburban trains (Cercanías in Spanish,…read moreRodalies in Catalan) roughly every half hour in each direction off-peak. The journey to Barcelona Sants takes about an hour. The station is a passing place on the otherwise single-track stretch north of Arenys de Mar; Barcelona-bound trains always use the main platform next to the building, but train to Blanes use either platform, so check which your train will leave from (or follow the locals). The handsome traditional station building has a small cafe-bar serving drinks and snacks which also doubles up as a ticket office. There are no automatic ticket machines, so leave time to buy your ticket in case there's a queue. There is a level crossing with warning lights to cross between the two platforms. At the Blanes end of the station, the line disappears dramatically into a tunnel under the outcrop, atop which sits the hermitage (chapel) of Sant Pau (St Paul).

Urquinaona is a useful station on the Barcelona Metro, it is on the Red (L1) and Yellow Lines (L4)…read morewhich is handy for changing trains. The station is very central with many of the city's attractions nearby, including Plaça de Catalunya (Barcelona's main square featuring the Apple Store). Due to being so central within the city and being across multiple lines, it is one of the busiest stations on the network. It is fairly easy to find your way around the station which I appreciate, it can be a bit of a walk between both lines, but I find that to be common for metro stations. You can see the colour of the lines dominant each platform - so you know which colour lines platform you're on which I think is handy and also makes the station look better. As with any station on the Barcelona Metro, the ticket machines do not accept contactless payments and you can't tap in/out which I find to be such an outdated system, and it did take a while to get my head around the departure boards. 3* - Certainly not the prettiest station but it gets the job done and is handy for location and access across multiple lines.

Martorell Enllaç station is a major stop on the FGC (Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya)…read moremetre-gauge railway line from the Plaça de Epanya terminus in Barcelona, forming the junction of the lines to the towns of Manresa and Igualada and serving the substantial industrial and dormitory town of Martorell. There is a large depot and signalling centre adjacent to the station, as well as a separate platform (with the original station buildings) for an occasional service of steam-hauled tourist trains. Although the line to Igualada was opened in 1893, the station was not opened in 1912, when it became the junction ('enllaç' means 'junction' in Catalan) of the extension from Barcelona. It became a junction in the true sense when the line to Manresa was built 1922-24. One of the historic steam locomotives graces a roundabout just outside the station, as well as the operational ones which run the tourist service. The station consists of a single island platform, and has recently been completely rebuilt, with lifts to the footbridge which provide level access throughout. Facilities are otherwise limited to waiting shelters, ticket machines and vending machines selling snacks and drinks. It has a frequent service (roughly every ten minutes off-peak) of mostly stopping trains to Barcelona; it is served by the S8 trains which terminate here, S4 trains to Olesa de Montserrat, R5 trains to Manresa Baixador and R6 trains to Igualada.

The Metro is very confusing, especially with all the lines that connect with each other with…read moretunnels and hallways that are as long as walking the above streets themselves. It gets hotter underground than above. It's easy to miss a turn and accidentally get on another line. I am really bad with directions and my best friend who is good with them got lost here and there. It does make it easier and accessible on a dime to get to some tourist and cool central stuff in the city. A lot of these are within 30 - 40 minute walking distance, however, there were some moments in which we just needed a rest. Price is less than 2 euros each way. This stop was really close to our hotel which was helpful.
