Before boarding, there is a baggage screening checkpoint, followed by a boarding line where tickets are checked. Once you clear both, you head down a level to reach the platforms and board your train. The process is generally smooth and organized, though at peak times the lines can get long (really long), so it's worth arriving with some extra time.
The station itself is more about function than charm, but it has all the essentials: shops, cafés, luggage storage, and car rental desks. Accessibility is decent with escalators, elevators, and ramps, though maneuvering through crowds with luggage can still be a little challenging.
Overall, Barcelona Sants does its job well as a modern transport hub. It may not be the most atmospheric station in Europe, but it's easy to reach by metro, clearly signposted, and efficient for catching high-speed trains.
