It was inhabited from the 13th to 15th centuries and played an important role in defense and trade. My husband and I toured the Tulum ruins with a tour guide. The site was walkable, although the weather was very sunny and hot. We saw the structures El Castillo, a castle overlooking the beautiful shore; the Temple of the Frescoes, which has wall murals; the Temple of the Descending God; Casa del Chultun; and many others. The ruins were roped off, so we could see them only from a distance and not touch them, but they still looked impressive and interesting. We also enjoyed seeing wildlife such as iguanas. We have visited other Mayan ruins in Mexico and in Belize, and in comparison, I do recommend visiting Tulum.

We know what to expect. Well.... We had misplaced out claim ticket. Without a claim ticket your charge is $100.00 American. We pleaded our case as I was prepared to shell out a C note. But the attendant was very empathetic with us and did not charge us that amount. Only the time we told him we got there. He could have charged us the $100.00 and by all rights . But his kind humanity gave us a break. I was surprised as most everyone wants to get a little more out of you here . That is why I gave them a 5 star. But.don't loose your ticket. You may not be as fortunate as us.

This place feels super safe- when I went, I was pretty much shadowed by security forces wearing armored vests with walkie-talkies. This is actually kinda the entrance to even fancier places, a ferris wheel, and high-end residences. The mall doesn't seem to have any public restrooms. There is no food court, just a smattering of high end places that are kinda tucked here and there throughout the mall. Parking looks challenging. I'd rather take the bus here. When I went, it appeared that they were expanding the footprint of this shopping mall.

Don't go to playa Delfines for Cancun sign, this beach also offers Cancun sign but with much better…read morebackground... This is more on the north side where you 'll find less tourist. Isla Mujeres ferry also departs from here. We came here by R1 bus. R1- R2 are so frequent in the hotel zone. You can easily find this beach unlike beaches in the hotel zone. Water is warm, slow waves, you can go 5-6 feet deep down the sea. Good for swimming but this beach is not that big. One side terminal and another side big hotel that leaves less area for swimming. Bathrooms are available here to take q quick shower. Thatched umbrellas are also here and did I add Cancun sign. The world knows Cancun sign at Playa Delfines beach, but this beach has also same Cancun sign. Palm trees, thatched umbrella, and sea make it more photogenic.

The location is just past the airport exit, coming from puerto morales, across from the Pemex gas station. Shuttle was immediate. We were not even out of our truck and the shuttle was behind us waiting for our luggage. The drive to the airport was no more than 5 minutes. They dropped people at terminal 2 then on to ours at terminal 3. That's all !! So quick. Now when we return that will be the question....!??!

Want to eat something authentic while posing with a monkey on your shoulder? This is your kind of place. I like heading up to Playa del Carmen for a lot more fun and action when I'm in the area, but depending on where you're staying this is a fun stopover and something you could do while also taking a trip to the ruins at Tulum.

My husband and I vacationed in Tulum in March 2026. We focused on the Mayan ruins. I felt very interested in seeing the many partially standing buildings and walls. Please note that you are not allowed to walk on them or otherwise touch them. We also enjoyed seeing the beautiful shoreline and wildlife. I deducted one star from my review because some of the businesses seemed to have very high prices. We ate at a restaurant and shopped in a few souvenir stores. One particular store tried to charge us hundreds of dollars for a small figurine, so we ended up purchasing an even smaller figurine that cost significantly less.
