I think it's important for me to make a longer post about this, even considering 5/5 stars. To be honest, this is a very wonderful place! We've been here almost every years since finding it. The service is great, attentive and helpful and available. We enjoy the people working, it's been the same every time. And! Here's more. This is a long standing, not 5 star hotel but a little town 'back country' style spa. Each room is very unique with several options available- campsites, car camping, singular shed / storage container rooms, mini cabins, yurt like structure and others. Every single one is themed something different. The one we stay in this time was sunset beach themed with tropical sunset colors, bamboo on the ceiling, palm tree decor, water like vibes. Both the rooms we've stayed in have a small fridge, microwave, TV- dvd/vcr, lights, bed w/ sheet, trash, paper towel, tables, mirrors, WiFi, hooks and lock n key. The rooms are well kept however, just to be honest and note that it's not particularly bothered us, there are spiders all around and other bugs at time. There are common areas for use that include the following: Kitchen- utensils, dishes, cookware, small electronics, stove top (gas), some seasonings, coffee set up, sink and soap, washing items, cutting board, fridge/freezer, water, microwave, etc. *please note that this is a 'what's left' or 'what's been gotten' space meaning while there's almost always something for anything, at times there aren't. Ex: last time there was no coffee bean grinder and this time there was. We still typically bring our own things but somethings can stay. Depends on your preference I would say. Kitchen is kept clean mostly by guest so can vary. Head sup that the sink water on hot gets very hot! Make sure you clean up after yourself, gentle with the plumbing. Lounge Room- it has tables, chairs and a living room like space with a TV that has VCR and DVD options. Two walls in the space are riddled with dvds and vhs videos. It's such a wonderful thing about this space honestly. The lounge space is not for sleeping in or staying in, heads up. You'll see the signs. Outside areas- there are several outside lounge areas for use of whomever is staying. One right outside of the kitchen door, one in the center of the round about driveway, one in between the areas, and one in pool amongst the pool- clothing required in that one and in all common areas. NOTE: if you have allergies to cats, this place has free roaming cats on property that walk around d and go inside the common lounge/kitchen spaces (not the spa) Individual spaces vary from pull-up car and car, camping, camping outside, mini sheds and cabins, and larger spaces as well. Each room is equipped with a bed, light, refrigerator that's small, trash, shelving, hooks for hanging, locked door, TV with VHS and DVD player, water, broom, mini heater, and small air conditioner. There is a theme to each room and as a gentle reminder, although the rooms are well kept, you can still find things like cobwebs and spiders. If the place is busy, it can be a little bit difficult to find parking that's suitable, but there still is plenty on the inside and on the outside as well. When it comes to those hot springs, there are five private rooms. Two of them have larger tubs that are grapefruit groups, and the other three are much smaller for one to four people Atmos. There is a common pool that can be used by anyone that is seated on the outside and not private, no unit is allowed in this. All of the private spas have doors that close and lock, and they can be rented out during certain times of the day by people who request this. Please note that using the hot tubs if you are staying overnight between 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM is difficult as those are usually saved for reservations. As our house recommended, and as we did, this is a great time to go for a walk or enjoy some dinner. As in any space, be respectful of your fellow hot spring goers with noise, smells and uses of area. No smoking anywhere or alcohol allowed. Not far from Mount Graham with tons of stunning exploring views and trails and more. Nearest town is just around the corner , 5-10 min drive with small town foods Love this place! Recently went back for a little getaway with friends. I love this quaint and rustic place over all. It's run by a really sweet lady , it's always clean and a good time. My favorite thing is that you can stay overnight in these little cabins for pretty cheap and have access to the hot springs all night long! I've learned booking by email is easiest although you can call. There's massage available to book onsite too but it fills up fast! There are group and solo tubs available as well as one totally outdoor tub . Tent camping is also an option but no RV's or hookups . The overnight area is complete with bathrooms (real ones ) and a kitchen/ common room space for lounging/ cooking /chilling . Each cabin has a tv so make sure to grab a VHS for watching. This is a no frills diamond in the desert! We were able to get a last minute reservation while on our Honeymoon & are so glad we did! The 104° water was relaxing and soothing. Each tub has its own area, including a door to ensure privacy. They do take cards but cash discounts are available. Cash price $10 per person, per hour. Card price $15 per person, per hour. There are some things that need to be repaired / repainted. If you don't mind some chipped paint with a side of small town hospitality, you should definitely give this place a try! We have not visited any Hot Springs in Arizona until our trip to essence of tranquility in Safford. We stayed in what is known as the hippie cabin on site. There are a few small cabins to choose from and they do allow camping here as well. There is a communal kitchen for Everyone to share and make their meals. We love the fact that there were several hot spring tubs to choose from five that are private since you're able to close the door and lock yourself into the room. They all had different themes but we enjoyed the one with a small waterfall the most. The atmosphere here is very chill And the owner is wonderful. We really enjoyed our time here it was relaxing and quiet. Pro tip there is also a free Hot Spring close by. read more

It's amazing the amount of privacy you have! I'd highly recommend it to anyone! You just get to go and relax in private.

So many things to say about this very unique property and whole experience. I have only been as an overnight guest, four times now. Speaking from my own experience, I did not enjoy it as much in the hot summer. As Safford gets very hot and tubbing during the day was almost impossible. Also, the little individual air conditioners just couldn't really keep up. There are 6 tubs, 5 of them are private and lockable, one of them is a public use one that is the largest and the coolest, around 98°. I posted lots of pictures of the different tubs, and a little video of one of them. Five out of six have a waterfall of sorts so you get to hear relaxing water sounds which is fabulous. My skin, hair and scalp feel unbelievable after spending a couple of days here. As far as staying overnight, there are 5 regular sized "Casitas", and one larger one that has 3 full over full bunks in it if you want to stay as a family or big group. This one has its own large fridge inside, all the others have a small fridge in each room for little things, and have space in the large fridge in the community room that's number for each cabin or campsite. That being said, there are four campsites as well. There are NO private bathrooms, but several shared bathrooms around the property. ROOMS- My favorite room is the Hippie shack, and although there aren't very many rooms, they have kind of an odd numbering system. Hippy shack is number 14. It has a queen, bed, and a couch/twin bed with another twin trundle underneath. So much space for your luggage and is DOG FRIENDLY! Number 10 is right next-door, and significantly smaller, but has a pretty comfortable bed. Number 12 next to that is a bit larger, has a queen bed and a twin size bed in case you come with someone and want to share. Sharing a wall with that one is the big octagonal room that has six beds, and can sleep up to 12. A bit away from that one is number 16, the purple room. I have never stayed in this one but other people have and loved it. If privacy is what you want, Casita 18 is furthest away from everybody, and the entrance as well as your sitting area face a completely opposite direction. Like some of the others, It is basically a big shed that was insulated and turned into a Casita. Kacie had a really hard time keeping cool in this one when I went once in July. This one has a tree over it for some nice shade, but it wasn't enough. Moved to the hippy shack and looooved it. Cost of the rooms is only like $50-70, and includes UNLIMITED use of the springs during most hours of the day and allll night (yes, even in the wee hours of the morning, as long as you respect quiet time). Keep in mind the public pays 15 bucks an hour, and it's FREE if you stay overnight. There's a 2-3 hour period during the busy time where the locals come soak that overnight guests are not allowed to use the tubs, around 5 to 7:30 PM if I remember correctly. there are two bathrooms attached to the left side of the community room, and another restroom in the Hot Spring area. As far as the community room, it has a full size kitchen, with a gas stove, a big dining table, a smaller, dining table, a couple of couches and a ton of movies. You can take the movies to your own room or each one has a DVD and VHS player, or watch in the main room. Outside you have a lot of sitting areas and more tables. We loved this funky one-night stay and will definitely be back. When driving in for overnight guests; park anywhere and go into the pools area, up to the main door up some steps into the office for check-in. This place is cozy, comfortable, and clean (for the most part). We stayed in cabin 16, which suited us well- is very small but has the necessities. *No bathrooms in cabins but there are three near by and showers are near office entrance. There is a nice community/common area with big kitchen, table, living room, and tons of dvds/vhs which you can watch in your cabin. There are a few camping spots available as well. It was a bit confusing with day users reserving times and such + guests are told not to use the tubs between like 6-8:30 or 7-8:30.. I didn't really understand what the deal was but I'm assuming to leave it available for reservation guests? Which probably keeps the cabin rental cost down (this place is very affordable). We got to enjoy almost all the tubs- the water was SO amazing and our skin felt fantastic after. 4 stars instead of 5 because the tubs and such could use some more maintenance and it could probably use some more organization (despite how small the property seems- an area map of tubs and info. would be very convenient). My friend and I went there for two nights. We are elderly. The rooms were very nice clean very cute themes. Ours was a hippie room. They got heaters air conditioners. Our room can have four people ,had a refrigerator microwave TV. The mineral baths were wonderful. I like how there's different temperatures And a nice communal kitchen the communal bathrooms were clean. Only thing is I saw some spiders in bathroom and shower. I alerted them and they were gonna take care of it. Very good experience the other people that stay there are friendly. The lady that owns it very nice and friendly and a very cute store to buy things, the son is very nice a Kept the place repaired. I like how she accommodates the locals and she reserves 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM for the local people in town so that they have times to come and soak. Would recommend going. Bring your food to Cook because the restaurants other than Mexican didn't seem that great. Trail Head Hideaway for bar food was recommended owner buys quality food. This is a privately owned hot springs resort . The signage in the parking lot entry area seems a bit "stern". Then the gift shop /reception/massage and ear candle treatment area is decidedly more "hippy" than posh. I love the vibe set by the owner C. , her intentions for this resort ,to be a "true sanctuary ",show in every aspect. The resort has constantly improved, but stayed humble and budget friendly throughout those years. They do not tolerate alcohol or loud parties at all. This makes it an excellent destination, if you want to truly relax among like minded spa enthusiasts . I absolutely love it and have been patronizing this resort for 30plus years . Essence has 6 concrete soaking pools , well cleaned & temperatures monitored &regulated . The pools are constantly draining and refilled with non chemical treated , magma-thermal heated ,and very mineral saturated , extremely therapeutic spring water. The water filling the pools is flowing at such a rate that the pools stay very clean . EofT does offer hourly rates ,but camping in your own tent or GLAMPING in one of the (remodeled garden shed) , furnished "cabins",offers better value and a chance to soak during non public hours. As in late night or early morning. The clubhouse with communal kitchen make cooking yourself a dinner and breakfast right at the resort so easy to do. For me the kitchen is a big plus ,as it delivers a more budget friendly "mini vacation "get away. They have every sort of cooking pot and utensil & dish already there believe me. However I highly suggest bringing your own insulated & lidded plastic cup ,for taking your beverage (water?coffee? ) to the pools or lounging areas. Sharing the clubhouse with other resort guest, in my experience ,has always been a cool social experience. Watching a movie chilled on the couches, in the library area has provided some great memories. It's heartwarming that Everyone easily shares space in the fridge(s) and cooking area &also clean up after themselves . So bring some groceries along , allowing yourself to relax from arrival till you are forced to leave . Trust me when I say -you won't want to waste precious "Essence of Tranquility "time running back to town for food . There are fire pits & fish ponds and a trickling stream with tempting lounge chairs placed in cozy spots scattered throughout the property . But ultimately, the SOAKING pools are what it's all about . All but one are fenced and roofed. Temperature of the 6 pools varies but temps are clearly posted . The privacy offered by locking the door of your chosen soaking pool's room, offer an unusually relaxing hot spring experience . Generally "private " pool time is either by the hour (stressful to clock watch) or just not an option. A chance to completely "unwind" in your own steamy medicine bath really is the Essence. read more

When I first arrived I was like "oh man, what am I in for here!". But my attitude quickly shifted from apprehension to one of relaxation. We arrived after business office hours only to be greeted by friendly faces and an open cabin with a wonderful front porch. The Cabin was cooled with air conditioning and the bed was clean and comfortable. Don't get me wrong, this isn't the Ritz Carlton. But it's as clean and comfortable as any hotel room. Bathrooms and showers are communal and just as clean as the rooms. The hot mineral baths vary in temperature from 98-105. Private tubs are available to overnight guest 24 hours. And my lover and I had Excellent massages, but if you're seeking a massage please call Clarice the owner ahead of time to schedule because they're independent contractors they're all independent contractors. I don't know if you knew that. ( my lovers words, not mine) What I loved most about EOT was the permissive anything goes environment. This Hot spring has everything. Furries, nerds, hippies, interesting locals and one of the best owners I've ever met in Clarice who made everyone feel welcome. I won't lie, it's bare-bones but everything was clean and tidy including the communal kitchen. There are grills available and of course you can ride into Safford a short 7 miles away for some excellent dining. My advice is that if you're going to be an uptight jerk who judges people stay away from this wonderful place. Both me and my lover give it five stars. I know that if you visit you will come away relaxed and ready to take on anything life throws at you such as Joint pain and your republican father in law. read more

I always leave feeling better when I leave than when I arrived. It is very basic and very affordable. It kind of reminds me of my stays in hostels. I found it to be very clean although it could benefit from lots of fresh paint. The water is wonderful and all but one of the tubs is private. If you stay overnight the communal kitchen is well equipped and the casitas (well really storage sheds) do the job for sleeping. There's a very eclectic mix of people and except for the guy listening to some racist rant on (I think) Fox news, I enjoyed my encounters with them. Oh and Marie gives awesome massages. Remember to book ahead for a massage! If you like chain hotels or fancy spas this is definitely not the place for you. If you wax nostalgic for the funky hostel that you stayed in 20 years ago...this might be a trip down memory lane. read more

The gift shop has some unique offerings at great prices. I have never stayed over in a cabin; however, look forward to doing it some time. Though closed Sunday and Monday, you can still enjoy a soak. We wanted to do something fun on our weekend in Safford. Looking through Yelp and other brochures we came upon this place. SO glad we did! We went after dinner and got one of the "rooms" with a hot spring tub in it. The wallpaper was outrageous and kitsch. The proprietor obviously was a trusting person as it was after hours and all honor system. There appeared to be families and many locals who showed up for a Saturday night mineral soak. The water was filtered in and the perfect temp. The healing minerals were not overpowering but did the trick for sure. We enjoyed our mineral bath so much we walked around after and looked at the odd mix of statues and such. In fact, we had to go back the next day to get some pictures in the daytime and see it then. Well worth the drive and time if you have an open mind and enjoy the extraordinary. read more

I am speechless-there are no words for this place. Well, obviously I am not speechless or I wouldn't write this review. Did I love only paying $5 to access hot springs? Sure! Was I so scared of the neighborhood that I wondered if my car would be there when I exited? Double sure! This is kitsch meets hot water meets this is crazy meets unbelievable decor meets "what was I thinking coming here...". Anyway, if you have want a cheap way to access the hot springs of the area-here you go. And honestly I bet you are safe here because this is a local hangout and probably a community safe zone. The hot springs were fantastic! Got a massage and it was nice. You could hear people talking outside of room which was a little distracting. Gift shop had lots of options and things to buy. This place is worth the five starts I gave it and here's why. I was told about EOT about a year ago from a Portal local. "A true peaceful place in the middle of the desert in an oasis setting -some of the Mesquite Trees are hundreds of years old - where you can have your private hot tub for only $10/day and free internet!!!" I had been postponing my first visit thinking it was too good to be true but I finally made it last week and ended up spending few days instead of an afternoon... It's one of those place fellow soakers tell you to keep for yourself of it may get too crowded... I was told exactly that 3 times while I was there and I can see why now. First the EOT owner, Clarice, was very kind to me. I asked her about the possibility to bring my lab on a campsite and she answered that I could not only do that but that I could also take her to the private tubs as long as I had her on a leash. Wow!!!. Now, at this point, if you wonder about cleanliness, the crew cleans all the tubs and private areas on a regular basis and the water is ABSOLUTELY CLEAR. Meaning no floaties on the water or goup along the tubs walls. And, ohh!!! the water feels perfect! Camping is the inexpensive option at $15/day. The price includes: * Internet - fast that is * Clean communal kitchen - with fridge/freezer space - and living room and showers and bathrooms * Great outdoor patio space with a view of Mt-Graham - which makes it for unique office!!! * Private tubs of your choice - on first come first serve basis * Bound to meet great people if you chose to connect I love and enjoyed every bit of my stay and I won't miss a chance to go back at every opportunity. read more

We have lived in the area for almost 5 years and we love the place for it's" sweet funkyness". If they ever call me to help them set up an SOP for the cleaning and organizing and decor of their kitchen and bathrooms, I will make sure that any other complaints will be nullified. A little TLC and time will solve many a complaint and I certainly would be happy to contribute to Essence for the soaking space they have provided us at a reasonable price which has helped us with our health. Take this with a grain of salt. This is not for the normal resort goer, you have to be "down" with an experience that consists of the atmosphere of a trailer park and possibly a Minuteman neighbor with holstered gun (very friendly, but something out of Reno 911), but beyond that slight unusualness the lady groundskeeper and another neighbor were extremely lovely and helpful, the individual hot tubs were great, and since we went there during the week, there was maybe two other families there and no one else. We had our PICK of hottubs and could go from one to another. Stayed in one of the smaller cabins, a spruced up woodshed pimped with a queen-size bed, air conditioning, little fridge, coffee maker and television. Totally fine. You can usually schedule a massage as well from the owner or her sister, but when we were there, we were too late for scheduling and never actual met the owner. I gotta say, travelling across country, we were lucky to find the place, and you can also hang out at Roper State Park and lake across the way, for a little barbecue and swim beforehand. Try this place for something if only to have something to tell your friends and family about. read more

I've been here many times. As for Albert's comments. I don't now what casita "tuff shed " Albert stayed in but I have stayed in all of them. They all are clean. and all have comfortable beds. The bathrooms are always clean. The communal kitchen is is fully stocked with pot pans everything you need to prepare your own meals. maybe even potluck with your other fellow campers. I don't what Albert expects for $60 accommodations but I am happy. read more

After reading the rules and paying the appropriate entry fee at an attendant-less pay booth, we were met with a "What are you doing on my property?" when checking out the spring tubs and "camping/Casita" area. Perhaps an off day, for the proprietor? (She never welcomed us, shared her name or any relevant information about the springs or property.) Well Karen and I go to the Essence of Tranquility hot springs every few weeks when we are home in Tucson. Funk, Oh Ya!. That's why it is a wonderful place that is not over priced and perfect for a few days getaway. We love the water and the people that visit.
