Basically you choose from 3 dishes and add a plate of soup for a dollar extra if you'd like. Today I chose grilled chicken and it was served with rice and fries. Not memorable at all. My chicken was almost raw, the rice was bland and the fries lacked salt and they were a little too on the oily side. Overall the experience was really less than memorable. It's a shame too because the inside is absolutely beautiful. The decorations are gorgeous and the staff is super friendly. They fill up quickly but they're still attentive and hard working. The best part of the meal was the bread and garlic olives that was service before our meal!

Having opted for fish earlier in the day we wanted some other types of meat and this place came though huge for us. I found it through Yelp and my friends and I walked over and was hoping for the best after seeing the reviews and it did not disappoint. Each plate came with rice and potatoes(french fires) also. I can't even find the words to describe how good everything was but I would love to come here again. The wait staff was super friend and quick too. I don't know that they spoke english as my friends ordered for us. Delicious!

One of the waiters is not the nicest but everybody else is super friendly. Everything I have tried has been excellent, even the salad is fresh and very tasty. The only thing I would keep away from is desserts, at least the chocolate mousse is not home made but the waiter was honest about it. Food is traditional Portuguese food, preparation and taste is as authentic as you can get. Portions are very generous and the price is really affordable. One serving usually feeds two people easily, you will be full by the end of the meal, I guarantee it! You can ask for a half serving if you are by yourself. The restaurant is non smoking, it can get pretty crowded, socially if you go on the weekends, but the very tasty food is well worth the wait!

Wandering around old Aveiro I found O Batel in a narrow alley and decided to try. It was wonderful. First and foremost the waitress (Eline, if not mistaken). She didn't push for anything and gave me her honest opinion on the food and the portions. I decided by the "petingas em escabeche" and as a main course on the "açorda de gambas" (shrimp with shredded bread). For the record, I'm originally Portuguese and just love that kind of food. I just can say it was wonderful. One of the best I ever tried. I trully recommend O Batel.
