Staying in Atibaia on business there aren't many options for a quick dinner after work. After…read morebeing led around on a wild goose chase by Google maps we finally found this place about 1/2 KM from the Faro hotel where we are staying. I think they are trying to look like an American-style hamburger joint with the servers wearing paper hats and butcher paper covering the tables. There are kitschy street signs and English sayings like "don't spit on the floor" hanging on the walls. Barely functioning AC was welcome on a hot summer evening. There are plenty of tables, especially up on a mezzanine area that they must open during busy times or for parties. They basically have hamburgers and fries as you would expect, as well as some unusual (for the area at least) beers like budweiser and brahma. Blended fruit drinks seemed to be popular with the other patrons and looked pretty good. I Opted for a couple of Pepsis on ice ($5/can) because I was really thirsty after walking all over town. The friendly older gentleman waiting tables recommended two specialties; Costilla (beef rib) and picanha (sirloin cap) burgers. I opted for the picanha burger and was not disappointed. The Burger was a lot better than what you would get at an American burger joint, and at about $11 it was a great value. Sautéed red onions on top and a nicely toasted fresh bun completed the dish nicely. The limp fried potato wedges were kind of meh and I couldn't quite place what was in the bland green sauce that accompanied them. I have already made a mental note to myself to pack some hot sauce next time I come to Brazil. Service was fast and friendly. When you're ready to leave, bring the little wooden slab with your table number up to the register and pay. Walking back to our hotel we realized it was indeed really close and definitely within walking distance.

During the time I've been in Sao Paulo, I've always been keeping an eye out for burger restaurants…read morethat know how to make burgers with the right level of quality, and I think St. Louis has what it takes to make a burger that tastes truly good. Their burgers are juicy, and are made with good quality meat. They're properly seasoned too. St. Louis also completely gets the most essential element of the burger quality equation: they cook the burgers to your exact specification. I asked for mine rare, and that's exactly how they served it; my friend asked for well done, and they did that too :-) Extra points for their house mayonnaise - it's fresh, delicious, and herbed just the way good mayo should be. Last visit, my friend and I shared a strangely delicious dessert - the Bacon Sundae. Having been exposed to this different but tasty treat, I'm definitely going to have to try to duplicate it at home. Over and above the burgers, the ambiance and the vibe are good, and the staff is friendly and helpful. About the only thing I don't like about St. Louis are their chips - they're humdrum, and horribly average. Even when I had them in a "Half and Half" (half onion rings and half chips - known elsewhere as 'frings'), the quantity and quality of the chips was sadly lacking. Bottom line: Looking squarely at their burgers, St. Louis does it right, and I'll definitely be back.

A carne veio no ponto certinho! [ENG] Okay, it had been a really long time since I ate a burger in SP and reacted like: omg! That's what happened. I took a long time to visit Z Deli because people always said the space was too small and always crowded. Besides that, there ir no air conditioning, which can be pretty annoying in SP's summer. That's why the restaurant doesn't get a 5-star rating. But going back to the delicious part of this review, the burger is truly amaaaaazing! I ordered one called Minetta which has cheddar cheese and caramelized onion. The meat was exaclty medium well as ordered and bread was slightly crunchy with a little taste of butter. LOVED IT. The pastrami sandwich was little bit dry, wasn't that into it. Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of fois gras, so I didn't get the famous foie gras burger. However, all of my friends that tried really really really liked it. The regular fries are great! Crunchy and not at all oily :) the fat fries are good, but they get kinda soaked in the sauce, so I prefered the other ones. There's also the pink lemonade, which I thought was bit sweet since it contains "groselha", a really sweet Brazilian drink. I often go back to Z Deli, but try to go on not so busy hours or just get a take out :)
